Chapter 675: Chapter 51 Dragon’s Mouth Village_2
The target this time was Dragon’s Mouth Village, which is located not far to the west of Liushudi Village, it only took less than twenty minutes to get there by foot.
To Xiao Jie’s surprise, the village appeared exceptionally peaceful, and the buildings were well-preserved.
From a distance, he saw some villagers farming in the fields around the village.
Huh, wasn’t this village supposed to be occupied by monsters? Why does it look so peaceful? Xiao Jie found it strange as he watched the farmers, what made him feel uneasy was that these villagers were not green-named, but neutral yellow-named units.
"Everybody be careful, don’t let your guard down." Xiao Jie usually starts with this reminder, being extra cautious in the game always helps.
Following the small path between the fields towards the village, they observed the farmers along the way and felt increasingly uneasy; those farmers seemed to be tilling the land, but occasionally sneak suspicious glances at the group.
The way they were crouching and dodging seemed very peculiar.
When they arrived at the village gate, it was tightly closed.
On the village wall, some militiamen were holding crossbows on guard.
"Feng, shall we just storm in?"
"Don’t be reckless, it might decrease our popularity, we should follow the King’s Way, attacking and conquering places isn’t a good idea."
"Has anyone noticed something odd about these farmers here?"
The crowd was buzzing with discussion, and Xiao Jie hesitated, unsure of the side effects of killing neutral units.
Just then, the gate suddenly opened, and an old man with white hair and a stooped back came walking out.
Followed by several guards, the white-haired elder said, "Ah, noble warriors, where do you come from? What brings you here with swords drawn?"
"We are Returning Villagers, here to suppress demons and eliminate monsters. May I ask if there are any monsters around here?"
"Monsters? I have never heard of such, our Dragon’s Mouth Village bands together to keep monsters at bay, even if one or two demons pass by, our brave militiamen would fight them off and never let them invade our village.
Since you are here to cleanse the demonic aura and return peace to the world, then you are guests, please come in. The village is just about to have lunch, why don’t you join us for a meal?"
Huh, they even invited us into the village.
Xiao Jie thought that this was convenient.
"Then we shall intrude, everyone inside!" While he spoke, he turned off the in-game voice chat and opened the YY software, reminding— "Be cautious, something isn’t right here."
The old village chief then shouted to the farmers outside, "Lunchtime, stop your work and come eat first, you can resume after you’ve eaten."
Then, one by one, the farmers put away their hoes and slowly followed from behind.
Everyone followed the old village chief into the village, and as they walked, they could always see some sneaky eyes peeping from around the corners of the streets.
"Up ahead is the village canteen, where we all dine," the old man pointed at a tall pavilion ahead and said laughingly.
Xiao Jie discreetly looked around as many villagers started to gather nearby.
As for those farmers who had finished tilling, they simply blocked the team’s route from behind.
Xiao Jie thought to himself that there indeed was something wrong, and summoned Big Orange; having an extra Summoning Beast was always a powerful aid in dangerous times.
As soon as Big Orange appeared, the surrounding villagers immediately showed a look of fear and dread.
Big Orange sniffed and suddenly growled, "Master, these are not humans, they are rats!"
Indeed!
Xiao Jie paused, recalling from Old Liu’s diary that this village once had a rat plague. Taking a closer look at the farmers’ facial features—he recognized their rat-like sneaky eyes, very dubious.
He didn’t mention this directly, but suddenly said to everyone, "Has anyone noticed anything?"
"I’ve noticed something—be alert, these aren’t humans, they are Rat Demons!" An Ran suddenly shouted loudly in YY.
Xiao Jie thought An Ran was quite sharp, so there was no need for him to remind them himself.
He could have reminded everyone himself and earned some points, but earning personal points like that sometimes required avoiding suspicions of favoritism or being accused of being a biased team leader.
On the other hand, earning points for teammates wasn’t so sensitive.
"That’s right, well done An Ran, everyone get ready, on my command—attack!"
The team was already on high alert, and upon Xiao Jie’s command, they immediately swung their swords and spears at the surrounding farmers.
The farmers were caught completely off guard and were quickly chopped down.
With a slash, a farmer deflated like a punctured balloon, collapsing to the ground. However, instead of air, a swarm of rats burst out from under the human skin.
Dozens of rats surrounded a Swordsman, jumping up to bite him.
-3! -5! -8! -7!
His Blood Volume was quickly reduced by a couple hundred.
"Damn, these rats deal high damage!" the Swordsman performed a Hawk Roll to distance himself, immediately followed by someone smashing a gunpowder jar on them, killing a group with a loud bang.
Actually, these rats didn’t deal much damage, and on professions wearing cloth armor with low defensive power, it was only a few points of damage. However, though the rats did minimal damage, their large numbers were overwhelming.
The farmers were quickly mowed down, some fell dead, while others burst out a bunch of rats.
Seeing this, the remaining farmers immediately tore off their human skins, revealing their furry Rat Demon bodies beneath.
