Chapter 233: Chapter 73: Legendary Games during the Beta Testing Period
"Thank God, you’re finally awake," Captain Lin said, looking at Chen Tianwen with a sigh of relief on his face.
"Sorry, I made you all worry," Chen Tianwen said with an apologetic smile, struggling to sit up from the bed.
His body appeared somewhat uncoordinated, moving very stiffly.
Next to him, An Ran quickly gave him a hand, "Why don’t you rest a bit more? You look really shaky, not very stable."
"It has nothing to do with rest, my soul has been separated from my body for too long, and I’m not quite used to it. I just need to move around a little—oh, Captain Lin, you’re here too."
Captain Lin’s face showed a trace of annoyance, "You really do love getting into trouble, don’t you? Who did you provoke this time?"
"I’m sorry, I’m afraid I can’t answer that, I don’t actually know myself," Chen Tianwen replied.
"Are you sure?" Captain Lin clearly didn’t believe him.
But Chen Tianwen said indifferently, "What reason would I have to lie to you? Besides, those people want to kill me, I would love for you to catch them if I knew who they were. I’d definitely tell you."
Captain Lin sharply caught a slip in Chen Tianwen’s words, "What do you mean by ’those people’? There’s more than one person who wants to kill you? And how do you know that?"
"That, I’m not sure about, but it would take more than one person to take me down, so it must be a group," Chen Tianwen continued with an innocent look of cluelessness.
This left Captain Lin somewhat at a loss, "Hmph, if you really don’t want to say, fine, but don’t blame us if anything happens in the future. Can you take care of yourself from now on?"
"No problem, Captain Lin, I think I am safe now."
Without saying anything more, Captain Lin simply waved his hand, "Team, withdraw."
Watching Captain Lin retreat so decisively, Xiao Jie couldn’t help but be surprised. Did he really believe Chen Tianwen’s words?
Xiao Jie certainly didn’t. Before, Chen Tianwen was obviously aware that he was being hunted and had even mentioned having enemies. Why wouldn’t he say anything now?
He looked at Chen Tianwen but didn’t ask the question. Chen Tianwen must have his reasons.
Yet Chen Tianwen had already begun to thank the three of them.
"I owe you all a big thanks this time. If it hadn’t been for your help, I’m afraid I might have been done for," he said.
"Haha, don’t mention it. We’re all players from the same place, of course we have to look out for each other," they replied.
"Don’t thank me. If Captain Lin hadn’t called me, I wouldn’t have come. After giving blood three times to save you, I’ll need to eat some beef and mutton later to recover. You should thank Xiao Jie instead. He’s the one who called the police."
Xiao Jie humbly waved his hand, "No need to thank me. Later on, if I have something I need help with, just don’t turn me away, okay?"
"Of course, this one’s on me. If you have any trouble in the future, just come and find me. I’ll definitely help without hesitation," Chen Tianwen assured him.
Curious, Chen Tianwen looked at Xiao Jie, "But how did you know something happened to me?"
Xiao Jie explained, "Actually, I wanted to consult you about something, but I couldn’t get through to you on the phone, so I guessed you might have gotten into trouble. Turns out I was right."
Chen Tianwen laughed at himself, "Well, my luck sure is good. Speaking of which, what did you want to consult me about?"
"Nothing much, just that recently two guilds approached me: Dragon Soaring Knights and Pantheon. I heard you used to be with Pantheon and wanted to ask you about how the guild treats its members."
Upon hearing this, Chen Tianwen’s face stiffened, and then he couldn’t help but let out a wry smile.
"Heh, it seems fate really does have its ways. It’s just too much of a coincidence. Perhaps there really is such a thing as destiny in this world," he mused.
This unexpected sigh made Xiao Jie pause, and then a flash of inspiration hit him, "Wait a minute, those people who want to kill you, they wouldn’t happen to be from Pantheon, would they?"
An Ran and Master Niu also showed looks of surprise.
Chen Tianwen sighed with a look of resignation in response to Xiao Jie’s guess, "I didn’t want to tell you all this, fearing it might bring trouble to you, but since..."
"Ah!" Master Niu suddenly slapped his thigh, interrupting Chen Tianwen mid-sentence, "I just remembered I left the water boiling on the stove at home. Well, since you’ve woken up, I’ll be taking my leave, and we’ll get in touch later."
After saying this, he turned around and left the emergency room.
"What the hell is with that old guy?" An Ran looked utterly confused.
"I guess he didn’t want to hear what comes next," Xiao Jie said thoughtfully.
Since Chen Tianwen didn’t want to tell them, it must mean the matter was quite dangerous. Master Niu, seasoned and crafty as he was, probably sensed it immediately and decided to make a quick exit.
Chen Tianwen chuckled, "That’s what I’m guessing, too—so, do you guys want to hear it?"
An Ran shrugged, "I don’t mind."
Xiao Jie nodded as well, "No problem here."
What’s another danger after all they’d been through? Besides, he had just chopped a few Paperman assassins. If there was any danger, it couldn’t be avoided now anyway.
Better to know what was going on, at the very least.
Chen Tianwen gave a wry smile, looked cautiously toward the door, and said, "I’m hungry. Let’s go have dinner first."
Half an hour later—
The three of them sat in a private room in a hotpot restaurant, eating and drinking beer, while listening to Chen Tianwen’s story.
An Ran, as always, devoured the food vigorously, polishing off three pounds of beef and mutton in no time.
Xiao Jie wasn’t far behind, his appetite having grown since practicing Inner Power Saber Technique, even in reality.
