Chapter 757 - 757 17 The Evolving Defense System

757: Chapter 17: The Evolving Defense System 757: Chapter 17: The Evolving Defense System “Magnetic Storm Coil?”

Even just from the name, Electric Blue could tell what it was—an evidently special type of defense tower that used lightning instead of cannonballs… Nothing strange there, but he was a bit curious about how powerful this Magnetic Storm Coil really was.

“But I still need to do my job first.”

With that thought in mind, Electric Blue took the supply of Elemental Crystals and headed towards the castle.

On the way to the castle, Electric Blue saw soldiers from the White Folks distributing free loaves of bread at the street corner, while nearby, a signpost bore a recruitment notice, giving priority to disciplined adult men.

“The Leyan Territory is no place for recruitment, being all Mountain People here; heaven knows if they might turn traitor in the middle of a fight.”

Electric Blue thought to himself as he soon arrived at the front of the castle, which was now the municipal center of Leyan Territory.

The ancient castle stood upon the cliff’s peak, allowing one to clearly see the imposing black Armor Suit atop it from below.

The ruby-like luster of the Cyclops Giant’s crimson electronic eye, albeit inactive, still instilled fear in onlookers—just as the reports detailed, the main weapon, the Prism Cannon, had melted due to overloading, but that Alchemist Lord had constructed a brand new one using spare parts.

Apart from the mismatch in color between the cannon and the Armor Suit, everything looked as though there had been no difference from the original.

At the bottom of the cliff, soldiers clad in armored clothing of the White Folks were toiling over a strange and huge set of Armored Clothing.

This Armored Clothing stood about three meters tall, quite imposing, and completely unlike the typical Sublimation Armor; it looked more like an iron can, with its head and chest armor integrated into one piece with only a diving-helmet-like viewport.

Two overly thick I-shaped launch ports protruded from each side of its body, with hefty yet rough armor plating covering its entirety.

“What’s this now?”

Electric Blue felt curious again.

With his expertise as a professional scout, he could naturally tell that this giant set of armor was the ‘new-style armament’ Ian had been working on recently… Indeed, Ian was a genius when it came to Armor Suit design, having assembled the Cyclops Giant using various components in only two weeks.

But in a place like South Ridge with poor conditions and scant equipment, what new creation could he muster?

“No, I have to report this to my superior.”

Electric Blue overheard the conversation of the White Folks soldiers, a very young voice saying, “The Magnetic Storm Armor is too heavy, we can’t possibly put it on before starting the power system, but to start the power system we need to put it on first!”

“This is a design flaw,” another soldier said.

“We should have the workshop make a support stand to assist with putting on the armor; otherwise, we’ll die of exhaustion trying to get into this thing.”

—Of course.

Electric Blue thought to himself, a nearly three-meter tall mass of iron, this armor must weigh more than two tons, right?

Even if Terra People were strong, without becoming a Sublimator, they couldn’t possibly wear Armor that heavy.

Lifting it might be possible, but lifting and wearing it are worlds apart.

But beyond the weight, the strength of this armor seemed a bit excessive.

Electric Blue could tell, despite the rough appearance of the armor’s surface, it actually used the same ‘Anti-Impact Armor Plating’ as the Aether Armament—a secret among many Alchemists and a defensive shell capable of resisting all types of attacks.

Even a First-Level Sublimator would struggle for fifteen days to dent this tin can… and that’s if the Armor Suit didn’t fight back.

“But the consumption is huge—with just a few armor suits, they can’t stop the Mountain People.”

With this thought, Electric Blue led the supply team all the way to the castle gates.

“Supplies from Nauman City… Colonel Majorva truly deserves our thanks.”

Upon learning that the Elemental Crystals had arrived, Ian personally came out of the castle to meet them.

When he found out that Electric Blue and the others were actually mercenaries, his eyes lit up.

He earnestly scrutinized the Iron Folk before him and then smiled with satisfaction, “That’s perfect… Do you gentlemen have any missions lined up next?”

“Not really,”

Electric Blue was somewhat taken aback upon seeing Ian, although he had known before arriving that the new Lord of Leyan was handsome, he had not paid it much attention, thinking it was just the usual flattery of Imperial Capital Nobles, overshadowed by Ian’s fame as an ‘Alchemy Genius’.

But he hadn’t expected the man to be this good-looking?

Almost indistinguishable from a real Fae…

If such a charming appearance was not overshadowed by his reputation as an Alchemy Genius, then how strong must he be?

Intimidated by Ian’s appeal, Electric Blue spoke without thinking, “The commander told us that if you have any tasks that need doing, feel free to put us to work.”

“Is that so.”

Electric Blue saw Ian smile, a sight that would normally be quite enchanting, but suddenly he got an uneasy feeling in his heart.

—Did I just reveal some information?

His instincts made him more alert, but then Ian changed the subject, “I’ve been told that you were at the bottom of the cliff watching the Magnetic Storm Armor for quite a while… Any thoughts on it?”

“I haven’t delved into it.”

Electric Blue responded cautiously, “But I heard those soldiers saying that the armor is too heavy, difficult to put on…”

“More than the armor, I’m actually more interested in that peculiar tower,” he said truthfully.

After all, various kinds of Sublimation Armor were not uncommon, but a Magstorm Tower that large was truly rare.

“That is indeed a problem.”
