Chapter 607 - 607 576 Don't let me down beast 43

607: Chapter 576: Don’t let me down, beast (4/3) 607: Chapter 576: Don’t let me down, beast (4/3) Click-clack—the sturdy alloy door of the monitor room was sliced apart, along with the Nightmare Spawn guarding it.

This was simply a nightmare.

Director Hugaral thought so.

He never imagined that an Inspector Knight of the Second Energy Level could actually defeat a Nightmare Entity of the Third Energy Level—even though that Nightmare Entity was merely a Conscious Lightbody, capable of drawing Spirit Energy only from the Subspace around it by consuming the Space-Time…

But this was one of their highest achievements, second only to the core project.

Do you know how many souls had to be consumed to coalesce such a ‘nightmare inherent in all living beings’ and how long they had to explore the perilous Domain of Void?

Director Hugaral couldn’t count them himself; ever since he and Director Proxel took over this project, nearly a thousand people’s Flesh and Blood and spirits had been expended, along with many invaluable Spirit Energy resources.

Only with great difficulty had they managed to stabilize the form of that Nightmare Entity.

To recreate its true original form, they had no idea how much more it would take…

and to think pessimistically, it was impossible to succeed.

But, it must be said, its power was indeed beyond imagination—’that man’ had also attacked the miniature garden defended by the Spirit Wisdom Institute at the beginning of the mutation, only to be repelled by Director Proxel, together with the Nightmare Entity.

Indeed, in that battle, Director Proxel died in action, and the Spirit Wisdom Institute lost their only Third Energy Level powerhouse in the Central Research Laboratory, but the Nightmare Entity healed its wounds by absorbing Director Proxel’s spirit.

It even became stronger and mastered some combat techniques.

Director Hugaral believed that as long as the Nightmare Entity was there to defend, even if ‘that man’ attacked again, they would be able to hold out until The Empire’s reinforcements arrived.

Yet, he never anticipated that an Inspector Knight, who held prejudice against them and the Spirit Wisdom Institute and inexplicably harbored ill will, would arrive before ‘that man’ did.

And then…

to defeat the Nightmare Entity with Second Energy Level power?

“How is this possible?!”

The director cried out loudly as his steps retreated continuously, even stumbling back onto the control console of the monitor room, but he was oblivious, his eyes wide with shock and fear, looking toward the slowly collapsing alloy door and the figure of the knight who was stepping into the monitor room.

“You, how can you possess such tremendous power?

Except for the Silver Fairy, no one of the Fairy Bloodline should be able to surpass the physical strength of the Nightmare Entity in combat, not even a True Fairy!”

Director Hugaral raised his hand, shaking as he pointed at Ian: “You are definitely not a Fairy!

What kind of monster are you, to disguise yourself as an Inspector Knight?!”

“Oh?

From your words, have you captured Fae for your experiments?”

Ian walked slowly into the monitor room, looking around at everyone present with a calm and composed gaze: “You really are corrupt to the core—honestly, if I had done such dastardly deeds, I would be unable to sleep at night; yet you seem to sleep just fine, showing an extremely low moral standard.”

“I thought that in my pursuit of the unknown, I was already disregarding morality enough, but I didn’t realize there are so many people in Terra who are even worse than me.”

At this moment, what appeared before Ian were a dozen fully armed guards and the researchers behind them aiming their guns, but only the strongest among them, Director Hornagar, was losing composure the most.

In reality, only Director Hornagar could comprehend just how terrifying and unstoppable Ian’s strength was.

Thus, he fell into despair.

“Just this many people?”

After scanning the room, Ian spoke with a hint of disappointment: “Where are your trump cards, in this Subspace?

Besides that Nightmare Spawn outside, do you not have any other trump cards?”

A researcher mustered the courage, hiding behind the guards, and yelled out: “Yes, we don’t need those things to deal with you, you traitor!”

The researcher’s voice seemed to boost the courage of the many researchers from the Spirit Wisdom Institute, leading to a chorus of angry rebukes.

“Idiots, our research is just!”

“If you really are an Inspector Knight, we all serve The Empire, and you should be helping us escape this accursed place!

Why are you attacking us?!”

“Don’t think just because this is Subspace, where no information can get out, you can do whatever you want!

We will definitely expose your true face!”

Ian looked at the researcher who spoke these words, his gaze filled with an intriguing pity: “Yes, I know, this place is completely cut off from the outside world, and no information can penetrate the Subspace to reach the outside— which is why I can use my full strength without any concern.”

“After I silence all of you, naturally, there will be no one left to unveil my true identity.”

Holding these thoughts, he reached out, rubbing the puncture wound on his chest.

When he was in the Imperial Capital, Ian didn’t wear the Dragon Skin Vest given to him by Teacher Hiliad because as long as even a bit of it was exposed, if some strong individual noticed a hint of something amiss, he would have no way to explain why he possessed dragon skin.

So, he generally kept the Dragon Skin Vest at Master Gossay’s, where the old man safeguarded these things.

After all, the other party knew his identity as the Heir of Hiliard, and Ian was the only one in the Imperial Capital that he could entrust with such a matter…

Yisen Gard was a bit too young.

“Such a pity, Michael has always been with me, so I really had no way to get here in dragon skin.”

Thinking this, layers of deep blue gel began to surge from Ian’s chest wound…

That was the regenerative gel from the Ghostly Regeneration Core, sealing the still-bleeding wound.

This was the first time he had used this regenerative power, and it felt pretty good.

“You actually have regenerative abilities?!”

Only Director Hornagar noticed this.

His pupils shrank and his face showed disbelief, “Impossible…

How can someone at the Second Energy Level have such a degree of defensive force, enough to crush a Nightmare Entity…

Indeed, you are a Subspace Magical Beast…”

“Honestly, this is the first time I have demonstrated my skills in regeneration…

It feels quite nice.”

With a shrug, Ian smiled, “Listen, this is a compliment.

In the past, I had to deliberately weaken my defensive capabilities and regenerative abilities, but this time it’s genuine injury and regeneration.

How nostalgic, this feeling.”

Faced with Ian’s words, Director Hornagar did not continue speaking—and no one else could make him continue.

Because just before that, one of the guards, too nervous, accidentally discharged his firearm.

Bang!

Ian had noticed this just before the firearm went off, and it was at that moment that he swung his sword.

Above the sword’s blade, ice spread, melting into water and tracing a perfect arc in midair.

It seems too weak to cut anything.

Even a High-Pressure Water Gun needs diamond dust within it.

But in reality, it was absolutely terrifying, for as the water line expanded, so did it swell, spread, accelerate, turning into an exceedingly sharp blade of vapor.

The arc-like blade of air swept across the entire control room, and of all the people present, except Director Hornagar, everyone who dared to raise a blade or gun at Ian stood frozen in place.

Seconds later, under the despairing gaze of Director Hornagar, heads began to roll, blood columns shot skyward, then rapidly froze within the spreading cold air, turning into fragile globs of ice-blood scattered across the floor.

Bodies fell in quick succession, making sounds like shattering ice blocks.

Ian sheathed his sword, his expression impassive as he stepped forward steadily to stand before Hornagar.

Death, despair, and fear now showed on the face of the director, who had regarded human life as disposable.

He who once had the power to arbitrarily decide the fates of hundreds of subjects, treating their lives as playthings to torment—yet now, before Ian, before someone who truly didn’t place his life above the dust, nor the dignity of the Spirit Wisdom Institute.

He finally understood that he was not the brave seeker after the truth of the world, the one who, for the development of Spirit Energy, was willing to sacrifice conscience.

He was nothing but a contemptible coward, who would kneel before the other party and lick his boots just to save his own life, far inferior to those subjects who dared to roar and spit in his face.

He was nothing but scum who would burn and slaughter others, using them as sacrifices for the sake of wealth and glory.

He was indeed such a vile beast.

“You know what I need.”

The young man stood in front of Director Hornagar, long lashes slightly lowered, but the light flickering in his eyes was no longer the heartrending gentleness of the past.

Instead, it was a cold, beautiful, yet dangerous chill that could freeze one to the bone.

Ian lifted his hand, pressing the straight blade of the Heavy Abyss Iron Sword against the man’s neck.

Layers of cold air, like a faint mist, circled the youth’s long hair, “The purpose of the laboratory, the specific news of the aberration, everything you know, tell me all of it.”

He showed a frosty smile, speaking gently, “Don’t disappoint me, beast.”

And so, the utterly broken Director Hornagar told Ian everything he knew.

“So that’s how it is.”

Nodding as though enlightened, Ian rolled his sword, grinding the beast’s head beneath it into blood plasma, “Indeed, killing you all just once is too lenient.”

“Be thankful, you can only die once.”

——All the survivors in the Central Research Laboratory of the Spirit Wisdom Institute in Avak were annihilated.
