(2/3) 602: Chapter 571 Ian is Here!

(2/3) Avak Central Research Laboratory was initially established for the purpose of decrypting and practicalizing a large number of Spirit Energy plans that remained from the Era of Ennea by the Duke of Solin.

However, later on, because the Duke of Solin felt that it was absolutely impossible to replicate the many Spirit Energy Project ideas from the Empire’s peak period with just the strength of the Grand Duchy of the West, he gradually began to introduce other forces to cooperate.

The Fiery Flame Land and the Spirit Wisdom Institute were not even the first cooperation partners, as both the City of Knowledge and the Seven Cities Alliance had collaborated with the Duke of Solin…

but those cooperations were only superficial, and it wasn’t until the most recent seven years that they really delved into deeper research.

The main objectives of the experiments from various parties were not the same, and the primary research direction of the Spirit Wisdom Institute was to master a method that could stably produce ‘Spirit Energy Users’.

This research was somewhat successful, in a way.

By creating an artificial environment of pain and distortion, the Spirit Wisdom Institute could indeed produce a batch of Spirit Energy Users.

But the cost was enormous, and these Spirit Energy Users could not be controlled at all, had extremely warped mentalities, and harbored hatred and the intent to kill against everyone in the world, so they could not be considered a complete success.

Yet, for more results, the Spirit Wisdom Institute still chose to continue digging deeper—they wanted to stably produce ‘specific types’ of Spirit Energy Users.

After all, a Spirit Energy User born out of despair is still a Spirit Energy User.

A Spirit Energy User who can only curse or kill is still effective as a weapon when thrown into the territory of other nations.

Regrettably, up until the incident occurred, the Spirit Wisdom Institute had not made a breakthrough in this regard.

The same painful process, and even the same race or personality, could not create the same Spirit Energy.

It could even create Spirit Energy that was vastly different, so in reality, this plan could already be considered a failure.

However, in other areas, such as ‘Soul Transfer’ and ‘Resurrection’, the Spirit Wisdom Institute achieved significant results, even supported by concrete examples.

Even the loss of a Deputy Chief was inconsequential.

Beyond that, the research of the Spirit Wisdom Institute also discovered a law related to Spirit Energy.

The awakening of Spirit Energy was, fundamentally, regular.

The greater and clearer the emotions such as pain, disappointment, sorrow, or despair, the stronger the ‘distorted’ and ‘painful’ series of Spirit Energy would become.

And these energies would always respond to the regrets the Spirit Energy Users faced in their previous experiences.

For instance, the Spirit Energy awakened by amputating, removing the limbs and internal organs of experimental subjects, was mostly related to the body.

There was also a portion related to astral projection or heightened perceptual abilities, but essentially, all these abilities were to compensate for the part of the body the experimental subject had lost.

The most peculiar cases were a blind little girl and a prostitute.

The little girl, who lost her eyes during the experimentation, awakened a Spirit Energy Ability called ‘Mind Wandering’, which allowed her to connect with the minds of everyone around her and walk through their thoughts and dreams.

This was seen as a sort of compensation for ‘visual impairment’, but it was not the common clairvoyance or the ‘eye of the mind’.

Instead, it allowed her to complete her own world through the eyes of others.

On the other hand, a prostitute who voluntarily participated in the experiment for money, after losing her reproductive and mobility capabilities, awakened an ability called ‘Universal Communication’.

She could receive necessary information from rocks, plants, and even a ray of sunlight.

All these entities would temporarily gain a spirit and communicate with the prostitute with the demeanor of sentient beings, and she regarded these spirits as her children, using them to be aware of her surroundings.

Although this did not fit with the typically awakened abilities of ‘catalysis’ or ‘regeneration’, it was perfectly logical.

Naturally, it also conformed to the law of ‘individual desires’ and ‘compensation for lost things’.

Therefore, the ultimate research goal of the Spirit Wisdom Institute was thus confirmed.

[——Spirit Energy is born out of certain intense emotions and desires, with pain, despair, and destructive urges being the most common, intense, and easily aroused emotions and desires.]

[——In light of this, if there were a soul that endured all pain and torture, could it awaken a sort of all-encompassing Spirit Energy, or at least a kind of Spirit Energy that could deal with all pain?]

This conjecture guided the Spirit Wisdom Institute in conducting experiments at Avak Central Research Laboratory.

However, so far, there has not been a soul or individual resilient enough to withstand their cruel experiments…

To find a soul and body that resilient, they would have to look at least to the Second Energy Level, and even up to the Third Energy Level.

But the Third Energy Level, let alone whether they are qualified to use beings from the Third Energy Level for experiments, rather than being experimented upon by them.

At the Third Energy Level, the Heart Light Body has already begun to form.

The powerful Spirit Energy of those beings has taken shape with their thoughts and unwavering sense of self, though their future is still vast with infinite possibilities, it’s unlikely to awaken Spirit Energy that is extremely powerful from the start.

From that point, what Spirit Energy needs is not awakening, but growth.

The Spirit Wisdom Institute whimsically dubbed that kind of nonexistent but hypothesized ‘ultimate Spirit Energy,’ ‘Savior of the Nameless’.

The Nameless are, of course, their test subjects.

Those who were bought by them and had their names erased, to be merely labeled as ‘Test Subject XXXX’.

They were well aware that their experiments were inhumane, extremely cruel, and could even be described as slaughter.

They also knew quite clearly that many people’s awakening of Spirit Energy was specifically to kill them.

So, if there truly was a Spirit Energy Awakening capable of enduring all this pain.

Then, the existence of that awakened Spirit Energy User would naturally be the ‘Savior of the Nameless,’ here to eradicate them, the ‘Demon Lords’.

—But so what?

The Spirit Wisdom Institute always believed that without such means, Humans would not have enough experimental subjects to explore the mysteries of Spirit Energy, and these were necessary sacrifices.

Some researchers at the Spirit Wisdom Institute did not believe in the existence of this ultimate Spirit Energy, while others thought that if they could indeed prove the ‘infiniteness’ of Spirit Energy, then even if they themselves were to become sacrifices, it would be acceptable.

Naturally.

The Spirit Wisdom Institute had its own core plan, as did Fiery Flame Land and The Grand Duchy.

And ‘that person,’ the power they possessed was the core plan from The Grand Duchy’s side.

Known as ‘King of Phantoms’…

also called ‘Monarch of Bygone Days’.

“I wonder if the ‘River of Death’ over at Fiery Flame Land has already been absorbed by him…

Every core plan has the potential to reach the Fifth Energy Level, and although it’s not possible for that individual to grow so quickly, even if it just allowed him to heal his wounds and regain the peak strength of the Third Energy Level, it would be difficult for the ‘Nightmare Entity’ from the laboratory’s ‘Demon Lord’ project to stop him.”

“If a breakthrough to the Fourth Energy Level is mentioned…

Forget it, there’s no use thinking about it, we would die anyway.

Better to think about what the future would be like if we survive…

Tch, that’s even more miserable.”

A major disaster in the experiments, losses of observational subjects, and data; everything had to start over from scratch.

Thinking of this, the director couldn’t help but shake his head in pain.

“Even if we really do survive this, either we’ll be silenced or likely confined in anonymity…

What am I going to do about my mortgage…”

He was never a person with strong empathy.

A person with strong empathy wouldn’t be able to become the director of Spirit Energy experiments in the current era of Terra; he was able to disregard the life and death of others, troubled only by small personal concerns.

However, very soon, the director no longer had the luxury of such thoughts.

Because Ian had arrived.
