Chapter 558 - 558 527 Fae Dragon Fire Soup 13
558: Chapter 527 Fae Dragon Fire Soup (1/3) 558: Chapter 527 Fae Dragon Fire Soup (1/3) September 15th…oh, now that I think about it, today really is his birthday.
Ian quickly remembered that today was his own birthday, which is hard to believe, as he seems to have only mentioned it to Yisen Gard once, yet the latter remembered it so clearly.
The boy’s friends in the Imperial Capital were pretty much all here—although it seemed like a large number, in essence, it was just Hua’an, Frost Butterfly, Mo Feng, and Yisen Gard, three Fae and one person.
They had prepared a table filled with an abundance of delicacies for Ian and decorated the house…
quite festively.
Of course, in the culture of The Empire, purple is noble, red is war, and celebration and joy are represented by gold and amber, symbolizing unexpected fortune and rich spirits.
“Was it really necessary to go all out like this…”
Ian was pulled by Yisen Gard into a dining room decorated with gold and amber, and when he saw the table full of delicacies—some made by chefs and some by his friends themselves—he felt unusually bashful, “Thank you…”
“What’s there to thank for?”
Yisen Gard seemed somewhat puzzled, “It’s just a small party, as it should be.”
“It’s just that you’ve been in the Imperial Capital for short of time, Ian, and don’t know many people.
Otherwise, even if there weren’t any birthdays or festivals, everyone would be eager to find an excuse to relax for a day—you’ve practically been cooped up in the lab for these last two months; it’s not good for your mental health, and I’ve long been wanting to get you to relax a bit.”
It made sense, but as far as Ian was concerned, carrying out Alchemy experiments was his way of relaxing; truly interacting with others, if he were to come across someone with a slow wit, might raise his blood pressure every day.
“Exactly!” Hua’an nodded vigorously, looking quite indignant, “How can it be Fae if you have a birthday and don’t celebrate?
It’s a rare chance to drink!”
Saying so, she downed a mouthful of sky-blue honey wine that emitted a faint glow; instantly, the Fae emanated a sweet aroma of alcohol, with her wings shimmering in blue light.
“Exactly!” Mo Feng agreed wholeheartedly, “We are all scholars, and aren’t allowed to drink addictive beverages unless it’s a holiday!”
Upon saying that, she poured a small cup of liquor onto herself—a very direct method of drinking; Mo Feng’s body was originally composed of various fluids, and now her body was set to have a not inconsiderable amount of alcohol added to its composition.
Frost Butterfly: “What about mine, what about mine?”
She looked a bit anxious because Hua’an and Mo Feng were unwilling to give her any wine.
“You’re not allowed to drink,” Ian said, “Look, here’s grape juice; round it off, and it’s practically wine.”
Frost Butterfly: (0~0)
Though she appeared somewhat discontent, Frost Butterfly eventually went off to happily drink her grape juice.
Out of everyone present, only Hua’an and Mo Feng could indulge in alcohol, and Mo Feng was not just able to drink; she loved it immensely.
According to Mo Feng, alcohol is not a good thing for humans; ordinary people drink excessively and it lowers their reason, making them dull and mentally sluggish.
Though there’s the saying that a little drinking can be warming and pleasing, it’s hard to ensure that people don’t overdo it.
But to Fae, alcohol is just a fragrant beverage.
However, if Fae scholars were to drink daily, it would diminish the image of Fae in the eyes of other races, so the Fairy Homeland has a regulation allowing Fae scholars to drink freely only on holidays.
The rules are good, but unfortunately, there’s always a way around the policy.
For the Fae, they celebrate their birthday every day.
“How about a drink?”
At that moment, Yisen Gard offered Ian a cup of deep purple ‘beverage’; apart from being reminded of his brother Alan’s eyes, Ian could also detect a hint of something resembling the smell of alcohol.
He initially wanted to refuse, but then he heard Yisen Gard’s happy voice, “I brewed this!
And after today, Ian, you’re pretty much an adult, so you can have a little alcohol.”
“Actually, a Sublimator wouldn’t get drunk even after a barrel, I just habitually maintain a practice.”
Since it was personally made by Yisen Gard, there was no need for Ian to insist on maintaining his habit.
He took a sip, raised his eyebrows, and said with some surprise, “This is…
a Focus Potion?”
The beverages brewed by Yisen Gard, or rather, this special potion, tasted very good.
It started with a soft fruity fragrance upon entry, then quickly transformed to a rich alcoholic taste in the mouth.
Once ingested and absorbed by the body, one could noticeably feel an enhancement in attention, perception, energy, and even stamina recovery.
It was like widening one’s field of vision, “It even contains Stamina Potion ingredients!”
Ian closed his eyes, keenly sensing, and then opening them in admiration, he said, “This is a superior elite composite potion!
Just a small cup is enough to restore nearly half the energy of an ordinary Sublimator!”
“In critical moments, this is an excellent supplement for quick stamina recovery.”
As he spoke, Ian noticed Yisen Gard’s expectant expression, and then praised again, “The most important thing is that it’s delicious—really good taste.
You know, neither Focus Potions nor Stamina Potions taste very good, one’s too spicy and the other bland, but Yisen, you’ve turned the spiciness into something more like alcohol.
This way, the majority of people will accept it!”
“Yeah!
I call it ‘Magic Liquor,’ it’s the first potion I’ve developed independently.”
Although it was just a fusion of two known potions, it was widely known that fusion was quite a sophisticated alchemical skill, especially since Yisen Gard could do it without reducing the potency of the potions and even added flavor to it—such skill truly deserved to be called genius.
After having a couple of drinks with Yisen Gard, Ian sat down to chat and found out that recently Yisen hadn’t quite adapted to solid food yet, but he had come to understand the importance of taste.
It wasn’t realistic for him to go back to drinking Stamina Potions every day, so the blond youth thought about it and decided to improve the taste of the Stamina Potions.
But after some time researching, he realized that changing the Stamina Potion on its own might be difficult.
However, if he fused the effects of different alchemical potions, the taste would naturally change, so he went back to researching composite potions, and it turned out to be successful.
Magic Liquor was clearly a luxury item, both as a potion and as a Sublimator beverage, with significant effectiveness and an expensive price tag, making it unaffordable for ordinary Sublimators.
But for the Nobles of the Imperial Capital, no wine was too expensive, and they were already bored with the overly stimulating Sublimator beverages.
Seeing Ian’s positive feedback, Yisen planned to make more and then give it as gifts to a few Alchemy Masters.
If they still had opinions, he would improve it and then give it to his mother.
This was to be considered a birthday gift.
Ian was very happy, as it represented a novel approach to alchemy for him.
Truly, it was Yisen Gard who knew what he liked the most.
As for the Fae, they prepared Ian’s favorite ‘Dragon Fire Soup.’
Dragon Fire Soup was a very, very delicious seafood soup, a traditional delicacy from Falling Star City that could be said to blend the most delicious flavors of all seafood without any fishy odors or strange tastes.
Ian didn’t know how to describe the deliciousness of this soup at first; if he had to, it was probably the taste of the ocean.
Then, he learned about the origins of the soup in Hua’an’s boastful tone.
First, Frost Butterflies created ultra-low temperatures to freeze the shells and flesh of various seafood, then shattered them completely.
Hua’an picked out the worthless calcium powder and the bone and meat slurry, refining it to extract the purest flavors.
The final touch was by Mo Feng, who used a perfectly simmered broth, and with just the right amount of ultrasonic vibration, allowed the purified seafood to blend perfectly with the soup.
–This was simply molecular gastronomy!
Ian had experienced a taste of Fae cuisine, and it seemed these little creatures had a unique grasp on food.
He might taste many more such delicious dishes on a future visit to the Fairy Homeland.
“Then why is it called Dragon Fire Soup?”
While everyone was savoring the taste of the ocean with their bowls of Dragon Fire Soup, Ian was curious and asked, “There are no Magical Beast Materials from a Blazing Dragon in this.”
“Oh, that’s simple,”
Hua’an put down her spoon and made a gesture, “The Fae who invented this soup thought it was so delicious that one afternoon she drank several pots of it, and she gave off a strong seafood fragrance.
When she was carelessly flying near the sea, a Blazing Dragon flew by and swallowed her in one gulp.”
“Although she managed to escape, she was in quite a disheveled state.
To commemorate this interesting event, we started calling the soup ‘Dragon Fire Soup’—a soup so delicious, even a Blazing Dragon couldn’t resist!”
