(3/4) 421: Chapter 391 Who Isn’t a Child?

(3/4) Inside the cultivation chamber, the synthetically created boy’s body had already begun taking form.

The tiny body was curled up like a baby, adorable and combining the best features of the Baron and his three children; atop his forehead protruded a tender, rock-golden little horn, and on his smooth back ran two rows of metallic crystal patterns that glimmered with a pale gold halo.

These crystal lattices extended downwards, ultimately converging into a small deer tail, which was quite cute.

However, the presence of the solitary horn could make one think he was a little unicorn.

The boy’s body lacked spirit; his eyes were slightly open, and a light blue Spirit Energy Halo flowed within the half-closed slits.

Three Spirit Energy Users, along with the vengeful spirit itself, were all shaping this ‘body’ which would be their future vessel with all their might.

He was nearly complete.

Baron Leyan’s family had used hundreds, if not more, people in biological experiments.

Although they had not derived a universal technique for body shaping, they were adept at creating ‘their own child’.

But now, the formation of the body was interrupted, as the light blue vengeful spirit sinking into this body let out a cry.

Then…

An indescribable deathly chill began to spread in all directions, and though it could not ice over the rainwater, it could plunder the vitality of everything around it.

“Spirit Energy?!”

Watching the anomaly below, Ian’s eyes widened: “This wraith actually has Spirit Energy?!”

“No, it’s that he had Spirit Energy when he was alive!”

The child of Baron Leyan, was indeed a Chosen One!

A Chosen One is a Spirit Energy User born with Spirit Energy—although both Hiliard and others were amazed by Ian’s talent, calling him nearly a Chosen One, in reality, he was not; he was an ordinary Spirit Energy User who acquired his abilities later in life.

Compared to the almost demon-possessed ‘desire’ that drove acquired Spirit Energy or the ‘Heart Light’ condensed from one’s lifetime of insight, the Chosen One’s Spirit Energy seemed like a pre-existing force, which they simply revealed as they delved into their self-awareness, merely taking out hidden treasure.

And most importantly,

Chosen Ones are beings that possess a soul from birth.

“No wonder he can be resurrected—this child was born with Spirit Energy, and as long as his soul is preserved and nurtured in some way, it won’t dissipate and can definitely bring back the Baron’s true child!”

At this moment, Ian finally understood what the gathering of four Spirit Energy children in the Baron’s home truly signified.

Yila was the smartest child, able to peer into people’s hearts, read ordinary people’s memories, and alter their concepts.

This child, after suffering agonizing experiences, could no longer engage with the world openly, so he was granted the Spirit Energy ability to alter the world’s cognition on a mental plane.

Memory manipulation was merely the simplest application of his abilities.

His responsibility was to modify his own, Moqiu’s, and Linda’s memories, add to them fabricated ones like those of Steward Moda, and then engrave them into the wraith’s soul, making it seem as though he truly grew up with the Baron.

Moqiu feared Humans, viewed by them as food, and thus unable to regard other humans as normal individuals.

He was physically maimed but in reality didn’t care about his impairments; he just yearned to be loved by others, or rather, to literally fuse with others, completely giving up his life as a vessel of painful memories.

So his Spirit Energy enabled him to merge with the bodies of others, and for him, controlling bodily changes was as effortless as breathing.

Regeneration Potion couldn’t make him regenerate, merely because he innately felt his body was meant to lack legs and a left hand—that was his complete form.

He was in charge of shaping the offspring’s flesh, after which he could forsake thought, sharing a tranquil slumber as part of the offspring.

As for Linda…

From the Baron’s reanimated arm and the recent blocking of alchemical bombs, Ian could tell that this child’s Spirit Energy was to ‘animate’ certain things.

Her origins were the most mysterious, likely some type of Artificial Human, a carapace without soul or inherent memory, gradually made into a real person by the Baron, which then awakened the Spirit Energy to ‘come to life’.

This kind of Spirit Energy, essentially, was supposed to endow soulless entities with souls, then control them through the soul.

That Spirit Energy Fist entangled with him earlier was essentially Linda manipulating the attack, hence the lack of combat experience and not much danger.

These three combined could create memories, body, and soul…

and it was Linda’s ‘animation’ Spirit Energy that allowed her to indirectly utilize the power of the Skull of Momentary Insignificance, bearing the Prophet’s Spirit Energy, to make some vague prophecy.

She could animate parts of the Skull related to Soul Structure, to the tangible Echo, replicating herself, Yila, Moqiu, and others as Echoes, implanting them into the offspring of the Baron.

Only then could that wraith, devoid of memory and body, whose soul needed the recognition and longing of others to sustain itself, truly come to life because of their souls and become a normal soul.

Even more powerful!

But the problem lies in the Spirit Energy of the Vengeful Spirit itself…

“It seems to be a power related to Vitality!”

Ian activated his Fairy Wings.

At the First Energy Level, the Fairy Wings’ output allowed him to hover briefly in mid-air, but after reaching the Second Energy Level and with the addition of the Frost Comet Skeleton, he could fly for a short period of time.

Once the young boy mastered his powers even more and made some adjustments to the output method of the Frost Comet Skeleton, he could potentially fly for extended periods like Viscount Grant, controlling steam to propel himself, or even maneuver at high speeds like the Fae.

From high above, he looked down upon the land and saw the spread of the Vengeful Spirit’s power.

Wherever it passed, the Hunter Vines and shrubs withered one by one, as if the essence of life itself was being plundered and extinguished.

This definitely wasn’t the original Spirit Energy of the adversary in life…

The Baron’s children, who inherited the blood of the Rockwood Whitestag, definitely had strong Vitality.

It was possible that the process of death reversed the Spirit Energy trend of the Chosen One.

From disseminating positive energy to disseminating negative energy.

The Vengeful Spirit lifted its head, looking towards Ian’s location.

Feeling a pure sense of pitch-black Nihility, the young Spirit Energy User slightly furrowed his brow.

From the heart of this Vengeful Spirit, he sensed no desire, only a pure sense of reluctance.

A reluctance…

Towards the denial of everything that exists.

Even including itself.

He didn’t attack anyone, but the life around him began to fade away.

The icy sword energy that Ian had unleashed from a distance also vanished into thin air, stripped of its power.

Only the three Spirit Energy children were unaffected.

He hadn’t harmed his ‘brothers and sisters’.

“You bastard!”

Baron Leyan leaped forth in a noble rage.

The Rockwood Whitestag lacked the ability to fly, but this leap astonishingly brought him to the same height as Ian, who was hovering.

He drove down with his spear, bringing with it the tearing sound of the air like thunder: “You dared to strike at children!”

Ian raised his sword to block.

Although he was forced back, he wasn’t injured.

He said somewhat bewilderedly, “Are you joking?

I’m only fourteen, just five or six years older than these kids at most, and you’re at least thirty or forty years older than me.

Do you have any shame attacking me?”

Clearly, the Baron struggled to counter his own logic.

He stopped talking and continued to leap and attack, doggedly.

Meanwhile, Ian deftly glided and flew, dodging every attack from the Baron, and began to taunt, drawing his adversary’s attention, “And you, claiming to love these children?

I empathize with your loss of your own child in a natural disaster, but how many children have you killed along the way?

How many fathers have you killed?

Do you have any right to say such things to me?”

“Not to mention, you collect these children for your own purposes.

How are you any different in essence from those behind the scenes?

How are you different from the foster-father who wants to take Yila to be their child, from the displaced people of Moqiu who want to be eaten, and from those unknown assailants?”

“You manipulate their emotions and fate to achieve your own ends!”

Each sentence caused the Baron to pause in his actions, but then he would react even more fiercely—he even let out a roar of rage and reached into the ground to lift a rock twice his size, hurling it forcefully at Ian.

This cannonball was far too large; Ian hurriedly accelerated to dodge, but there was no doubt about who was growing desperate.

As long as he kept harassing and wearing him down like this, Baron Leyan’s physical strength would soon be completely depleted.

But just as Ian was about to continue speaking to provoke the already agitated and frenzied Baron into continuing his reckless attacks, he heard a voice stemming from the heart.

It was like the three children were speaking together, their voice echoing softly inside his heart.

[You’re wrong, big brother, we haven’t been manipulated]
