(3/3, w updates)_2 Only the flickering light pierced through the thin mist raised by raindrops striking the ground, along with the somber grey rain clouds slowly undulating atop the firmament.

The geological structure around Solitary Flame Peak was incredibly strong, or rather, the unstable parts had already collapsed six years ago, becoming the foundation for the landslide and the adjacent Barrier Lake.

What remained now was naturally the most durable skeletal structure.

The low bushes were trampled under the tough Iron Knight boots, as the young man silently arrived in this quiet valley.

“You have come, Prophet…

or should I say, the heir of the Prophet?

A Spirit Energy User who cannot be manipulated by Linda to snoop through the Skull of Momentary Insignificance.”

The one-armed noble slowly turned around, his back against the cultivation chamber that flickered with twilight, and said slowly, “I knew you would come—just like you know, I must have been prepared for your arrival.”

“I’m not going to say the lie that all of this has nothing to do with you.

Ian, the secrets behind you might be even bigger than mine, and since I know your secrets, a battle is inevitable.”

“But still, I have to say it.”

Baron Leyan’s deep blue eyes flickered with an indescribable emotion: “Do you really want to fight me, Knight?”

“It’s not because of the Prophet, nor is it that I want to fight you.” To this uninteresting inquiry, the young Knight’s response was to take a step forward.

Under the Baron’s cold gaze, he spoke calmly, “Baron Leyan, I have come here only to ask you a question.”

“A question about a despicable yet pitiable man.”

“Six years ago, due to a great storm and a landslide, a man lost his wife and children.

Heartbroken, he initially wanted to give up on his own life, but was encouraged by his old steward who had been with him as he grew up…

However, the method he chose was an evil act of harming others.”

“With the help of a mysterious benefactor, he gradually collected three Spirit Energy children who could help him resurrect his kin.

These children had abnormal psyches and tendencies, even cruel at times.

Marks of torment lingered in their souls, granting them power, yet also barring them from relief from their pain.”

“Initially, the man merely saw them as tools, but perhaps due to an overflow of suppressed emotions and a genuine sympathy, he eventually began to treat these wretched children as his own, pouring his heart into their education and care.”

The Knight continued to advance, stepping closer and closer to the silent Baron Leyan: “And these poor children, who had never experienced kindness or love, thus began to see this man as the father they never had.”

“Their true father in their hearts.”

“They lived like a family, with the old steward joyfully taking care of his master and the young masters and misses.

Under the influence of love, the abnormal children might have reverted to normalcy, and things should have been so.”

“If it had ended there, it might have been a good ending.”

The young man’s gaze was as sharp as a sword, but the man he looked at had eyes as deep as the abyss.

Listening to the question, Baron Leyan’s eyes darkened further, or perhaps, became more profoundly pitch-black.

No grief, no regret, no indifference, no cruelty showed.

Only a deep silence.

The inquiry was not yet over.

So, accompanied by thunder and torrential rain, the Knight’s voice echoed through the valley: “However, perhaps due to the demands of the mysterious benefactor, or because he still didn’t want to give up on the hope of resurrecting his kin, the man couldn’t stop anymore.”

“To continue the experiments, to maintain the children’s abnormal yet powerful Spirit Energy, he slaughtered innocent Ordinary people, using their bones as raw materials for his experiments, as consumables for his children’s distorted thoughts—from several years ago until now, the number of victims has been countless.”

“And now,”

The Knight was less than thirty meters away from the Baron when his voice suddenly deepened: “the man’s plan is nearly complete.”

“Regardless of how sinful the process, he now wishes to use his three most beloved children, who also love him the most, as the raw materials to resurrect his own already deceased kin—the faces of whom he doesn’t even remember.”

At this point, Ian spoke softly, “Here comes the question, Baron.”

“Should a detestable yet pitiable man continue down this path, continue these acts filled with sin and pain that even he himself cannot endure?”

Silence began to spread.

The soundless calm pervaded the entire valley.

Until another bolt of lightning struck, casting a pale purple Glorious Light that illuminated the shadows of the two men.

In the interplay of light and shadow, Baron Leyan had already raised his hand to rest on the hilt of his weapon at his waist.

[He certainly will continue.]

Just then, the man’s voice became hollow and distant, like the echo of a child following his deep tone: [He knows he is full of sin, beyond redemption, thus he will persist in his ways, never looking back]

The radiance of Spirit Energy appeared around the one-armed noble, multitudes of light converging, mixing the surrounding rainwater and mud to form a sturdy and nimble Spirit Energy arm that took its place on his left arm.

Baron Leyan faced Ian, his tone even carrying a sincerity that came from the heart: [So the man will not make excuses, nor will he hide]

[The evil Lord even begs the Knight to strike him down]

[Knight!] he suddenly raised his voice, almost like a roar: [If you truly intend to strike him down, then I implore you to see it through, absolutely do not hold back!]

[But if you cannot—then that man will keep on doing it!]

“Even if utterly unforgivable?” Clutching the hilt of his sword tightly, Ian asked softly, “Even if you’re doomed to regret it?”

And Baron Leyan finally smiled sincerely from his heart: [Even if utterly unforgivable]

[Even if I’m doomed to regret it]

“Good.”

He had received the answer he didn’t want to hear but knew it was the only possible one.

Therefore, the Knight placed his hand on the hilt of his sword: “Then, I shall now correct an error of yours.”

“It was never about me wanting to fight you, to stop you from doing something.”

“But you are here to stop me from achieving my goal.”

The torrential downpour all around suddenly came to a halt as if time itself had stopped.

The chaotic raindrops were frozen by an inexplicable Coldlight, then solidified in place by a force.

Lightning tore through the heavens and earth, bright light piercing through these raindrop crystals suspended mid-air, making them reflect against each other, shining like stars.

Surrounded by the starred halo of ice crystals, Ian raised his sword, the Coldlight Longsword reflecting the unceasing brilliance of the thunder in the darkness.

The Second Order Ice-Water Essence was thus displayed before the enemy’s astonished and realizing gaze.

The sword’s edge aimed at the man before him, the halted stars began to rotate, tracing shimmering silver chains between heaven and earth.

He whispered softly, “Baron.”

“Have you figured out how to stop me?”
