the answer is now clear.”
It is evidently because the Dragon Soul Aggregate sensed abnormalities in its own state and required other ‘consciousnesses’ to help it control additional bodies.
Facing a lack of trustworthy entities, it was left with no choice but to choose Shasha, who was nearest, and Elan, who possessed innate Spirit Energy talents.
Simply put, the three Crystalline Dragon Eggs were influenced by the Swarm, underwent soul fusion, and transformed into a unified fused soul.
However, this fused soul remains immature, unaware of how to control the three bodies, and unable to hatch fully on its own—thus it resorted to seeking others to assist in piloting its two vacant bodies for incubation.
Shasha and Elan were selected as the pilots.
By merely approaching the Dragon Eggs and attempting to channel their consciousness into them, they can control a ‘Crystal Dragon Incarnation’ and gain various Spirit Energy abilities and inheritances shared by the fused Dragon Soul.
Experiencing the body of a Crystal Dragon firsthand will undoubtedly benefit their future Path of Sublimation.
This is not just a mere coincidence.
Ian sensed that the fused Dragon Soul was remarkably adept at letting others pilot its body—whether this was instinct or part of its soul and physical foundation, the capability was inherently present!
In other words, creatures like the Crystal Dragon were likely designed from the start with the functionality of allowing others to pilot their bodies…
They were originally engineered as biological mechs, specifically created for human control!
“Attached Brain!”
Ian was immediately reminded of the Redwood Natives’ parasitic symbiosis and the Great Shaman’s control over the Swamp Crocodile Dragon…
Suddenly, everything started to make sense.
Crystal Dragons were actually tools of prehistoric civilizations for extraterrestrial colonization, but unlike True Dragons, who adapted environments to suit themselves, Crystal Dragons adapted themselves to suit the environments.
Back then, Ian had speculated: if Crystal Dragons could only alter themselves, how could they facilitate human colonization of alien planets?
Looking at it now…
prehistoric civilizations likely never held an orthodoxic ideology of ‘using human forms for extraterrestrial colonization.’ As long as humanity could leave Terra and live on other planets, they were entirely open to adopting another kind of body—to transform into dragons for survival!
The Redwood Base specialized in researching consciousness transfers.
Even though their descendants have degenerated into the Redwood Natives, they still retained the Sublimation Skills to ‘parasitize and control other Magical Beasts’ bodies.’
“Biological Mech Piloting Mastery…
yet another groundbreaking technology!”
Ian felt some wistfulness as the truth unfolded layer by layer.
Surface phenomena observed at the beginning gradually revealed a true core of significance with further gathering of intelligence.
When Ian first witnessed the Great Shaman parasitizing the Swamp Crocodile Dragon, he hadn’t realized that it would involve so many dimensions—not only artificial souls and Attached Brain systems, but even ties to the concept of ‘reincarnation colonization’ from prehistoric civilizations.
Sadly, this knowledge has been lost to history…
but it doesn’t matter.
Ian now sees himself fully capable of reverse-engineering this technology through the relationships between the Crystal Dragons and their incarnations!
“You want me to demonstrate how consciousness transfer and incubation works, right?”
Ian posed this query to the naive Dragon Soul Aggregate through their network connection and received affirmative fluctuations in response.
With that confirmation, he decisively exerted his will, directing a forceful push from his dragon body’s head.
Hiss—
Krrnch!
Krr—
Ordinary hatchling dragons, driven by instinctive self-preservation, would normally avoid using excessive force while breaking through eggshells.
Only the strongest, most vigorous, and most intelligent hatchlings could crack through upon first attempt.
However, under Ian’s control, the body of the Crystalline Dragon within the egg applied immense force, instantly breaking through the incredibly sturdy crystalline eggshell.
In that moment, rich, viscous, and transparent fluid within the egg began to evaporate rapidly, and the hatchling smoothly leaped out of the broken eggshell cavity before landing weightlessly onto the down-filled cushion.
The dragons on Terra exhibit diverse shapes—ranging from serpentine Sea Dragons, akin to Oriental dragons, to Pterosaurs reminiscent of traditional Western dragons.
Yet, regardless of form, their bodies always possess an extraordinary allure that seems unreachable by natural evolution.
It is a design befitting a ‘superior life form.’
The Aether Crystal Dragon was no exception.
Its hatchling body boasted an exterior resembling the crystalline elegance of diamonds—transparent and colorless but imbued with a pale azure essence flowing within, lending the dragon an overall cerulean pearlescence.
The dragon’s six limbs were impressively developed, optimal for both terrestrial mobility and aquatic movement.
However, Ian hadn’t located mechanisms related to flight yet—likely necessitating post-growth specialization or the addition of flight capabilities via Essence Organs.
Even as a newly hatched dragon, the Crystalline Dragon was already equipped with formidable combat power.
“It appears this is an ingrained facet of their biology, isn’t it?”
Upon inspecting its body, Ian sensed a wave of hunger.
He recalled the Qing Steel Dragon’s hatching process and directed the hatchling’s dragon body to gaze upon the Dragon Egg: “Every dragon undergoes this ritual after emerging—eating the Dragon Egg…”
To be honest, the taste of the eggshell was slightly sweet—almost excessively so, like a waffle drenched in syrup with a strong, aromatic fragrance.
A dragon head with no intelligence, upon detecting this sweetness, would instinctively begin to consume.
This design evidently ensured that a hatchling dragon wouldn’t forget to eat its egg and replenish essential nutrients for survival.
As Ian controlled the dragon incarnation to bite and crunch through the crystal-like Dragon Egg as casually as eating cookies…
From a distance, just outside the glasshouse enclosure, a figure received notification and hurriedly exited their workroom, rushing towards the Crystalline Dragon’s habitat, their footsteps filled with urgency.
“What’s happening?!”
With dark green hair cascading down, the former Elf Pirate Captain, Andor—now relegated to forced servitude as a D-rank staff member at the Mist Port Labyrinth Breeding Site—was striding quickly toward the ‘Zhanhai Crystalline Dragon Egg Incubation Area’ he was currently responsible for, his expression tense.
“Could it be that the two eggs, which have shown no activity for an entire year…
are finally hatching?!”
Despite the unforeseen circumstances leaving him momentarily flustered, the prospect of normal Dragon Egg incubation rather than some unforeseen disaster made Andor’s eyes glint with subtle joy: “Could this mean I finally have a chance to leave this damned place—perhaps even rid myself of my D-rank designation?!”
