Chapter 934: Chapter 936: Give Me Back My Son!_1
"After paying respects to father and mother, and seeing that you were busy, I also went to check on our son," he said, his eyes fixed on her unblinkingly, as if he wanted to imprint her into his very sight.
Bai Ruozhu felt her face grow hotter under his gaze and quietly reached out to tug at his sleeve, "Then let’s go back to our room to talk."
A hint of a smile appeared in the depths of his eyes as he caught her small hand in his and strode towards their room.
"How are things going..." Bai Ruozhu hadn’t finished her sentence when he closed the door with a sweep of his arm, his handsome face descended swiftly, silencing her with his lips.
Mmm... Bai Ruozhu’s words were pushed back down into her stomach, her myriad worries returning to her, her heart feeling a bit anxious, but soon they were melted away by the heat of his kiss.
The two parted, panting from their kiss, which seemed to convey their longing for each other; a short separation is better than a new marriage, just so.
But Jiang Yichun made no further moves. Bai Ruozhu pouted, knowing he must have to go out again soon; otherwise, with his usual amorous disposition, how could he be so restrained?
Jiang Yichun’s gaze deepened, a heavy fog draping over his eyes, his entire demeanor becoming agitated, but he eventually took a deep breath and said softly, "I’ll have to go out again soon, I’ll deal with you when I return!"
"Why are you going to deal with me? You’ve been gone for so long, and you act all high-and-mighty when you come back? Don’t forget who the boss is in our house!" Bai Ruozhu retorted with a pout.
Jiang Yichun couldn’t help but laugh, "Don’t forget who it was who saved you."
Bai Ruozhu found herself at a loss for words, and there was no time to bicker with him, as she hurriedly asked, "What’s the situation in the city now?"
"All is well, the crisis will soon be over. The Meng Family is unharmed," Jiang Yichun reassured her, knowing what she was concerned about, "The Xie Family and some others close to Meng Liangshen are also safe. Prince Duan initiated his rebellion in hopes of crafting a good reputation, so he has only placed the city’s officers and their families under house arrest without causing bloodshed."
Hearing this, Bai Ruozhu felt quite relieved, "And Madam Tu is about to give birth; she went to her cousin’s house, and Tu Ying and Tu Bai are worried. I’ve already sent someone to gather information. If you come across her while outside, have someone bring her to our Bai Family home."
Though she no longer harbored resentment towards Madam Tu, Jiang Yichun was somewhat displeased with her for publicly targeting Bai Ruozhu before.
"With Lord Tu taking care of it, we need not meddle in unnecessary affairs," he said indifferently.
Bai Ruozhu glared at him and said, "Do you know why Tu Ying wanted to act as bait to draw the chase away? Others might think she was fighting for a chance for her brother, but she did it out of fear for my safety, knowing that the pursuers had said the Tu siblings should be left alive while showing no mercy to others."
Jiang Yichun’s expression turned cold, as if a thin layer of ice had formed, and after a moment, he simply replied with three words: "I understand now."
No sooner had they spoken a few words than someone from outside reminded Jiang Yichun it was time to leave. He wrapped his arms around her and said, "Stay at home and don’t wander off. I’ll be back soon."
Suddenly recalling his earlier words about "dealing with you," her face turned red, and resting her head against his chest, she nodded slightly, "Ok, I’ll wait for you."
Feeling warmed by her response, no matter how hard he fought outside, the thought of someone waiting for him at home filled his heart with warmth.
After Jiang Yichun left, Bai Ruozhu went to the main house to hold Little Dengdeng and chat with her parents for a while before taking her child back to their room to rest.
Since she had slept a lot during the day, she found herself unable to sleep now, so she instructed the dark guards to keep watch outside before quietly taking Little Dengdeng into the Space to play.
Little Dengdeng was now able to move a few steps on his own, holding onto things for support, but because he was leaning on the wall or the edge of the bed, he moved sideways like an adorable little crab.
Bai Ruozhu let her son play in the Space, then she treated herself to a rejuvenating facial mask, after which she picked up Dengdeng and left the Space.
Dengdeng grabbed a crispy water caltrop and enjoyed it immensely, devouring half of it before Bai Ruozhu hastily finished it off. They hadn’t bought water caltrops at home, and it would have seemed odd to others had they seen it.
The night passed without incident, and early the next morning, a dark guard returned with news, reporting that they had found information about Madam Tu.
"Madam Tu’s cousin has been bribed by Prince Duan to help with childbirth, but in reality, it was a trap waiting for her to walk into, and she has been captured by Prince Duan’s men. However, Lord Tu is aware of this and has arranged for a rescue," Jianqi reported to Bai Ruozhu.
Bai Ruozhu was taken aback, betrayed by her own flesh and blood, and that too, a pregnant woman. Madam Tu probably never expected to guard against this, did she?
"Won’t Prince Duan use Madam Tu to threaten Lord Tu?" Bai Ruozhu asked.
"Prince Duan’s power is already on the decline, and a single Madam Tu cannot leverage much. The only fear is that he might act out of desperation and takes out his anger on Madam Tu," Jianqi said in a lowered voice, these words he did not share with the Tu siblings but reported directly to Bai Ruozhu first.
Bai Ruozhu began to feel a headache coming on. If she told Tu Ying and Tu Bai, they would undoubtedly insist on attempting a rescue. But how much could the two of them accomplish? If they didn’t save her but instead put themselves in danger, what would she do?
Yet, if she didn’t inform them, and something happened to Madam Tu, Bai Ruozhu would feel remorse.
In the end, she gritted her teeth and said, "Don’t tell them about it, just say that we’ve confirmed Madam Tu truly went to her cousin’s house, and also that Lord Tu has sent people to fetch her."
Jianqi nodded, met with Tu Ying and Tu Bai, and relayed the information exactly as Bai Ruozhu had instructed. Tu Ying and Tu Bai felt relieved and even ate a bit more for breakfast.
Bai Ruozhu, not wanting to give anything away, tried to push the matter to the back of her mind as much as possible.
The next day, Jiang Yichun didn’t return home, and the city remained in chaos. Everyone was too afraid to leave their homes, keeping their doors shut tight. Even adults who usually scolded their children did so in hushed tones now, fearing that loud crying might draw the attention of the government soldiers.
Bai Ruozhu felt that in a day, everything would come to a close, and Achun would return home.
During these turbulent times, someone unexpectedly came looking for the Bai Family.
An urgent knocking came from outside, putting the entire Bai Family on edge. No one would visit unannounced at such a time.
"Is this Bai Yihong’s house? Open the door, I’ve come from Anyuan Town!" exclaimed the voice of a middle-aged woman, sounding both urgent and panicked, almost as if someone was chasing her.
The servants hesitated to open the door, all looking towards Bai Yihong and Lin Ping’er for direction. Bai Yihong frowned and said, "Whose wife might this be? I don’t recognize the voice."
Lin Ping’er also shook her head, "I can’t tell who it might be either." She turned to a nearby maid and said, "Ask her loudly who she is and what she wants."
The maid ran to the door and asked loudly, "Who’s wife are you, and what business do you have with our master?"
The woman hesitated, her voice tinged with a sob, "My surname is Niu, I’ve come looking for my son. You don’t want to return my son to me, do you?"
