Chapter 878: Chapter 880: No Onlookers Allowed When Treating Injuries_1
Tu Bai remembered he could not let anyone see his wound being stitched and hurriedly bowed to the judge, saying, "Thank you for your concern, sir. I will bandage it after watching my sister’s competition. There is no need to trouble the doctor, as my classmate is a doctor himself."
The judge had just seen Bai Ruozhu administer a needle to Tu Bai and nodded without insisting further.
Right behind Tu Bai, separated by just one person, stood Wu Ying, her expression grave. Her performance this time was not only for herself but also for her brother, the Study Palace, and the honor of Beiyu City. She even bore the weight of defying those who insisted on highlighting the differences between the North and the South. Her pressure was immense.
"Little sister, you can do it!" Tu Bai said.
Wu Ying nodded, walked toward her horse, and with swift and elegant movements, mounted it, immediately drawing a chorus of admiring gasps because her archery had been astonishing earlier, attracting much attention.
"Go!" Wu Ying spurred her horse into a gallop. Her body suddenly flew up, performing a flip on the horseback, and then she landed firmly back on it. The crowd erupted in cheers, proclaiming that this woman was incredibly formidable, indeed a heroine not inferior to any man!
Bai Ruozhu clenched her palms, sweating with anxiety. She knew Wu Ying was formidable, but feared that the immense pressure might affect her performance, feeling her heart in her throat.
As a result, Wu Ying landed on the horseback and, due to her speed, had already passed one target. Bai Ruozhu almost couldn’t help crying out, "What, what can we do now?"
Then they saw Wu Ying, calm and composed, take her bow off her back, arch backward, and with a pull of the bowstring and a whoosh, sent an arrow straight through the bullseye!
It turned out this maneuver had been planned all along. Wu Ying’s backbend while drawing the bow was more difficult and also had greater aesthetic appeal. On her tiptoes, her entire body formed an arch, and from the side, her posture was extremely beautiful, but everyone knew this was not a feat just anybody could achieve.
The applause thundered from the audience, many shouting Wu Ying’s name as if they were going mad, for her movements were too exquisite!
Having shot the arrow, Wu Ying quickly changed her posture for the second move, the same one that Tu Bai had just performed – hooking her feet onto the saddle, hanging off the side of the horse, and then firing another slanted arrow, whoosh, another bullseye!
Bai Ruozhu felt a rush of enthusiasm, thinking she must practice her riding skills when she returned, for it was simply too cool!
Afterward, Wu Ying performed a series of challenging maneuvers, and in the end, all five arrows hit their targets, sending the spectators into a frenzy. She completed her round, dismounted smoothly, bowed to the audience with her fists clasped, and then handed over the competition bow to the judge.
The judge’s eyes were full of admiration, "Truly a valorous daughter of a military family, not bad, not bad at all!"
"Thank you for your praise, sir," Wu Ying said calmly.
But the audience had already gone wild, and someone took the lead shouting, "One more time, one more time!"
Everyone joined in the chant, as if the show was too spectacular not to demand an encore.
With a serene expression, Wu Ying clasped her fists towards the audience and said loudly, "Thank you all for your affection, but I have urgent matters to attend to, and must take my leave now!"
After speaking, she quickly walked towards Tu Bai, helped him up, and they headed out, "No other matter, Ruozhu, could you please check on my brother’s wound?"
"Alright, let’s hurry to the Rest Room," Bai Ruozhu said.
Since their entrance to the Competition did not allow for subordinates, there were no guards attending to them, Bai Ruozhu glanced towards their team, sending a covert signal to Jianqi with her eyes to discreetly come and find her.
Seeing Jianqi understood her intention, she looked towards the VIP Seats, but did not see the figures of Jiang Yichun and Little Dengdeng; she wondered, where had this father and son gone? Could they really miss such an exciting competition?
Without time to think further, the three of them left the arena and headed to the Rest Area, where some rooms were available for those participating in the Competition to use temporarily. However, these rooms couldn’t be claimed by any one team on purpose.
Fortunately, there was an empty room available at the moment. Wu Ying helped Tu Bo inside, and just then, Jianqi arrived. Bai Ruozhu spoke to Jianqi in a low voice, "You stay at the door. Don’t let anyone in."
"Yes," Jianqi took up his position by the door.
Bai Ruozhu asked Wu Ying to help Tu Bo take off his clothes. Wu Ying didn’t hesitate, but Tu Bo blushed and said with some embarrassment, "Sorry for troubling Mrs. Jiang."
Bai Ruozhu gave him a look and said, "It’s not the first time I’ve changed your dressing. There’s no gender distinction for a doctor."
Suddenly, footsteps and the refined voice of a man came from outside, "I am the doctor arranged by the organizing committee. I just saw someone bleeding. Let me take a look at him."
Jianqi stopped the man at the door, his face stern, "A doctor is already seeing to him. Why don’t you check on someone else first?"
"I’m the only doctor on duty today. Where is this other doctor you speak of? Don’t be deceived by someone. Saving a life is crucial, let me in," said the man.
Immediately, the sound of fists and kicks clashing came from outside. Wu Ying and Bai Ruozhu exchanged glances. Was that person outside really a well-meaning doctor? Could it be that a killer had already infiltrated the Competition Arena? That would be extremely audacious!
"Ruozhu, you treat my brother first. I’ll go have a look outside," Wu Ying stood up and said.
"Alright, be careful," Bai Ruozhu said as she inserted a needle into Tu Bo to relieve his pain. Later, she would need to stitch up the wound. Tu Bo’s injury was extensive; it had been healing nicely before, but after straining himself today, half of it had split open. She had to stitch it up again.
When the door opened, Bai Ruozhu poked her head out for a glance and saw a young man speaking. He looked gentle and refined but seemed to have some fighting skills.
He was dressed in the apparel of the organizing committee’s staff and had a Doctor’s Identification Badge hanging from his waist, which is why Jianqi didn’t attack him too harshly, only preventing him from entering.
"Stop it!" Wu Ying shouted, "My brother is injured and is being tended to by a classmate. There’s no need for the doctor to worry."
Upon seeing Wu Ying, the doctor’s face showed a suspicious flush. He withdrew his fists and said, "Miss Wu Ying, my name is Li Jingwei. I’m the on-call doctor assigned by the organizing committee. I saw your prowess in the Competition earlier. I just wanted to come over and help but saw this person standing at the door looking fierce and fearsome, and I thought someone had captured you."
Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched from inside. Jianqi might be cold, but he certainly didn’t look fiercely evil, did he? But it was clear that Li Jingwei followed Wu Ying here; it seemed Wu Ying was going to attract quite a few admirers on this trip.
Right now, Wu Ying was worried about her brother’s injury and wasn’t in a good mood. She glanced at this unwelcome admirer and said, "It’s nothing. He’s a subordinate of my friend. I need to take care of my brother, so excuse me for being rude."
After Wu Ying finished speaking and was about to leave, Li Jingwei suddenly grabbed her sleeve. Wu Ying glared at him and shook off his hand forcefully.
"Miss Wu Ying, I’m sorry. I was too anxious. Being a doctor, I can still be of help. Please let me come in?" Li Jingwei asked cautiously.
"That won’t be necessary. Outsiders will disturb my brother’s treatment," Wu Ying said coldly.
Just then, urgent footsteps could be heard approaching from a distance. Wu Ying turned to look and saw Lin Xufei rushing over anxiously.
"Miss Wu, how is Brother Tu Bo? I saw his wound had opened up just now. I’ve come to check on him," Lin Xufei said as he also made a move to rush into the room...
