Chapter 788: Chapter 790: It’s Not Good for a Woman to be Too Clever

The moment Jiang Yichun entered the carriage, he embraced Bai Ruozhu. Bai Ruozhu was initially meditating with her eyes closed, but the familiar scent that flooded her senses made her open her eyes instantly. Even though her vision was blurry, she immediately knew it was him!

His scent was incredibly pleasant—a faint, crisp fragrance reminiscent of bamboo leaves. She loved his scent and she also held onto him tightly.

Jiang Yichun had missed her almost to the point of insanity. Having received her reciprocation, he immediately ran his fingers through her hair, cradled the back of her head, and hungrily kissed her red lips.

His passionate kiss halted her words. She wanted to tell him about her poisoning and her blindness, but couldn’t until he released her, gasping for breath. He gently caressed her face and said, "You’re finally back."

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes were slightly hazy as she spoke, "Achun, I’ve been poisoned and I’m temporarily blind."

Jiang Yichun was alarmed. Only then did he realize that her gaze was not hazy from affection but due to the loss of focus. He quickly checked her pulse and muttered, "What kind of poison is this? Why can’t I identify it? Who did this?"

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, "I don’t know, it’s likely that I was poisoned before I left. It’s a strange poison. Let me find a way to treat myself when I go back. Let’s find a place to rest for now, can you suppress the poison for me with acupuncture? So I can at least temporarily regain my sight."

"Of course," said Jiang Yichun, taking her hand softly but also complaining slightly, "I told you not to wander around. See what happens when you go out? Even Xiaosi didn’t return with you."

Bai Ruozhu pursed her lips and countered, "I was clearly poisoned before leaving, not while I was out. Don’t mix up the two."

"Anyway, you’re not allowed to wander around in the future. It’s too worrisome," Jiang Yichun insisted.

He instructed Chenfeng to stop the carriage for a rest. Once the carriage had come to a halt, he instructed the guards to stay alert, making sure no one interrupted while he treated Bai Ruozhu.

Jiang Yichun was a proficient physician too. After asking Bai Ruozhu a few questions, he knew how to administer the acupuncture to expel the poison. Not long after, the poison from Bai Ruozhu’s eyes was pushed back into her body, and she could clearly see things again.

An excited Bai Ruozhu hugged Jiang Yichun’s neck and gave a peck on his face. She happily said, "Achun, thank you so much. I don’t want to be blind again. It was really suffocating being unable to see on the journey."

Jiang Yichun teasingly flicked her forehead, joking, "This incident made you calm down and rest for a couple of days. Let’s see if you still act brave and reckless in the future."

Bai Ruozhu waved her hand in irritation and said, "You are more nagging than an old mother. Stop talking about it and figure out how to cure this poison. While it’s not posing any substantial problems now, it’s making me weak all over, and it’s really uncomfortable. Also, how did I get poisoned? Just thinking about unknowingly being poisoned gives me a sense of insecurity everywhere."

"Was Furball unable to neutralize the poison?" Jiang Yichun asked.

"It can only neutralize Pozinfects, not poison from medication," Bai Ruozhu replied.

"Don’t worry about these for now, we will look into it when we return. Speaking of which, I didn’t see your subordinate, Jianqi. Where is he? Wasn’t he supposed to be protecting you?" Jiang Yichun asked, not very pleased with Jianqi’s negligence.

Bai Ruozhu ordered the guards to continue on their journey. She chatted away with Jiang Yichun’s arm in hers, explaining roughly what had happened at the Huashan Sect.

"I left him behind to look for the sword. Something being stolen from my subordinates is as good as something being stolen from me, how could I let that go?" Bai Ruozhu rolled her eyes and spoke dismissively.

Jiang Yichun chuckled and gently messed up her hair, "You are just too soft-hearted, and yet you won’t admit it."

Bai Ruozhu brushed away his hand. When she was with Xiaosi, she was always bullying him in this way. So she was not going to let Jiang Yichun tease her with any bad intentions.

When dusk fell, Bai Ruozhu finally returned to the Bai Family Courtyard. The family was obviously very thrilled. She was peppered with questions about Xiaosi’s condition and she smiled, saying: "Xiaosi is very prestigious now. As an elder’s personal disciple, many people older than me have to call him ’Senior Brother’. He learned a lot there, and even learned about Arrays. Even his personality has become much more cheerful. Only when I saw Elder Xuan Jizi truly caring for him did I feel assured enough to leave."

Lin Ping’er heaved a sigh of relief, "That’s good, that’s good. It’s just a pity we won’t be able to see him often."

Mother, a man has ambitions that lie in all four corners of the world. When Xiaosi has improved his Skills, he’ll be able to see us regularly," Bai Zehao laughingly reassured.

Lin Ping’er slapped his shoulder, "What ambitions? You better not wander too far from home, you’re going to be a father soon!"

Bai Zehao chuckled foolishly, "I’m just saying, where would I go leaving my home?"

At the mention of leaving home, Bai Zepei’s gaze flickered, which was noted by Bai Ruozhu. She found it strange. Why did her second brother seem a bit downcast?

After Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun had some food, Bai Ruozhu wanted to have a private chat with her second brother. Jiang Yichun seemed a bit jealous and smacked her buttocks nonchalantly. Bai Ruozhu quickly glanced towards the courtyard, afraid that someone might have seen it. Fortunately, no one in the house had noticed.

Chenfeng and Muyu, the dark guards, were hidden in the shadows and almost collapsed with laughter. Muyu gave Chenfeng a look that said: "Look, look. Our lady may be sharp and tough, but she can still be spanked by our master, can’t she?"

Chenfeng suddenly remembered that he had carried Bai Ruozhu before. His smile instantly froze and his mood for watching the fun vanished. He decided that he would find Muyu for a chat as soon as they switched shifts, to keep him quiet.

But, it wasn’t just Muyu who had seen it, there were so many other guards too...

When Bai Ruozhu arrived in her second brother’s room, she saw him reading and grabbed his book, "The candlelight is not bright enough, be careful not to become short-sighted."

Danliang didn’t have the term ’short-sighted’, but because Bai Ruozhu often said it to Bai Zepei before, he understood what it meant.

He did not compete with her for the book or counter her argument. He just leaned back slightly on the chair and said, "What is it? You finally came back and aren’t spending time with your son?"

"He was still in my hands while we were eating just now." Bai Ruozhu thought about the moment she had entered the house and her son was looking expectantly at her, she felt like holding on to him and never letting go.

But she couldn’t let her second brother change the topic. She fixed her gaze on him and asked, "Why did you look so flustered when we mentioned leaving home earlier? What’s really happening?"

Bai Zepei abruptly stood up and closed in on Bai Ruozhu. Bai Ruozhu instinctively tried to move back but still couldn’t evade him. With a flick, he hit her forehead!

His face was plastered with a sly smile as he said, "A woman being too smart isn’t good."
