Chapter 775: Chapter 777: Why Should I Pity You?

After drinking some hot herbal medicine, Bai Ruozhu felt a little better. Ruyi brought a nurse to take care of the baby, and Bai Ruozhu just let her mother rest on the soft couch while she kept an eye on Yu Hongxiu. Jiang Yichun felt sorry for her and wished he could be the one watching her. If it wasn’t inconvenient, he would do it himself. Even if he didn’t mind, Xie Dun would still kick him out.

After a while, Bai Ruozhu let Yu Hongxiu get up, pressed some internal bleeding from her abdomen, and made her drink warm water, insisting that she must urinate. Fortunately, Yu Hongxiu did so successfully, and Bai Ruozhu pressed her abdomen a few more times before finally feeling relieved.

By this time, the sky had begun to lighten, and Bai Ruozhu was so tired that she couldn’t keep her eyes open. Thankful, Xie Dun bowed to her and suggested, "Perhaps Ruozhu should head to the guest room for a rest."

Bai Ruozhu, too exhausted to keep going, nodded and left the room. However, as soon as she stepped out, she found herself suspended in air. Surprised, she turned around to see that she was being held in a warm embrace. She looked up with fatigue, smiled tiredly at him, and then fell asleep on his chest.

Jiang Yichun carried her swiftly back to the guest room, laid her on the bed, and snuggled up with his son to sleep beside her.

Afterwards, he left the room and went to find Lin Ping’ er, saying, "Mother, you should go home and rest first, so that father won’t worry. When Ruozhu wakes up, I’ll take her home."

Lin Ping’er was also exhausted and, after giving her regards to Xie Dun, she got into the horse carriage and went home.

When Jiang Yichun returned to the room, he found his son awake, giggling and playing with his mother’s eyelashes and nostrils. Bai Ruozhu was extremely tired, almost to the point of collapse due to the playful child, but she showed no signs of waking up.

Half-helpless, Jiang Yichun glared at their son, whispering, "If you wake your mother, I’ll spank you!"

Dengdeng, sensing that his father was scolding him, pouted disappointingly. Did his father not like him anymore?

Jiang Yichun had no choice but to take Dengdeng with him to breakfast, fearing that his son’s antics might wake Bai Ruozhu. He didn’t get any sleep himself and ended up feeding Dengdeng some cow’s milk and millet porridge that the Xie household had prepared.

When Bai Ruozhu woke up again, it was nearly noon. She rubbed her sore eyes and winced at the pain from her waist wound. She couldn’t help but take in a sharp breath, prompting Jiang Yichun to come rushing in from outside with the baby and ask, "How do you feel? Do you want to drink some water first?"

Bai Ruozhu was still a bit groggy from sleep and just nodded, reaching out her arms to hold Dengdeng. Seeing this, Jiang Yichun put Dengdeng on the opposite couch and said, "No, you’ve been injured and can’t carry the baby for now, in case it strains the wound."

He poured her a cup of water from the table, brought it to her, and started feeding it to her without giving it to her first.

Only then did Bai Ruozhu become alert. Seeing their son sitting curiously on the side, smiling at both of them, she felt a little shy and patted Jiang Yichun’s hand, saying, "I’m not helpless, why do I need to be fed even for drinking water?"

"What if it strains the wound?" He insisted, feeding her another mouthful of water.

Bai Ruozhu almost choked. Seeing how bothered he was, she didn’t have the heart to argue with him.

Jiang Yichun put down the cup, picked up Dengdeng with one hand, and helped Bai Ruozhu up with the other, saying, "Should we have lunch at the Xie residence before going home? You haven’t eaten breakfast, and I’m worried you might feel unwell on the road."

"Fine, I’m okay." Bai Ruozhu felt that her wound wasn’t that serious and that the good medicine she had used was already taking effect, so it wasn’t as bad as Jiang Yichun made it out to be. But he was treating her as if she were an injured patient. She wasn’t that delicate.

"Go check on Sister Hongxiu and the baby first." Bai Ruozhu suggested, her voice sounding much stronger than it had been in the morning.

Jiang Yichun shook his head helplessly. "You’re still weak, but you’re always considering others. Isn’t there someone to take care of them at home?"

"We should deal with those three people as well." Bai Ruozhu pouted, her tone carrying a hint of coquettishness. She had figured out that Jiang Yichun was planning to take complete control over her; how could she not play this card?

Jiang Yichun’s eyes were filled with affection as he held her shoulders, "Alright, alright. However, you should rest when we get home."

"Yes, my lord." Bai Ruozhu gave him a sweet smile.

Jiang Yichun felt his heart was melting. He yearned to pull her into his arms and lovingly "punish" her. Yet, remembering her injury, he decided to hold back, prioritising her recovery above all else.

When the couple arrived at Yu Hongxiu’s doorstep, they found the three culprits still tied up. Xie Dun was busy taking care of his wife and their kids, having no time to deal with the trio. Meanwhile, Jianqi and the rest, without any specific orders, could only keep an eye on them and stop them from making a scene.

Narrowing his eyes, Jiang Yichun ordered: "Have Xie Residence’s steward send Deng Shi and the midwife to the Government Office, accusing them of harming Xie’s wife and the child in her womb." He then glared at Hao Baishuang, whose eyes were shut - it looked as if flames were about to burst out of his eyes.

"Escort Hao Baishuang to the Government Office on charges of attempting to kill my wife," he added.

At this point, Hao Baishuang opened her eyes and coldly glanced at Jiang Yichun. "She isn’t dead. She just had a small punishment. Compared to my cousin’s life, this is nothing. You’ve also injured me. Aren’t we even now? Is it necessary to send me to the Government Office?"

Jiang Yichun, seething with anger, laughed in response. "Who gave you the right to call it quits? Is your worthless life comparable to my wife’s? Guards, take her to the Government Office."

As the guards began dragging Hao Baishuang away, she struggled and exclaimed loudly, "Bai Ruozhu was delivered by me! She owes me a favor. Would she have the face to send me to the Government Office?"

Bai Ruozhu had just finished checking Yu Hongxiu’s pulse and confirmed that she was fine. She walked out of the room and laughed at Hao Baishuang. Her laughter was radiant, yet Hao Baishuang felt a chill run down her spine.

"Why wouldn’t I? You helped with my delivery and I paid you. We don’t owe each other anything. You never asked me to spare you, did you? You tried to kill me. Shouldn’t I vent my anger on you?" Bai Ruozhu sneered.

"What about my cousin? She died just like that. Don’t you have any sympathy?" Hao Baishuang choked on her words, eventually managing to get this sentence out.

Bai Ruozhu laughed loudly. "Are you asking me to feel sorry for her or for you? Why should I pity you? She tried to assassinate me. If I had fallen into her trap, I would be the one dead. Then who was supposed to pity me? I am not a saint. If you try to kill me, you should be prepared to face the consequences."

Jiang Yichun gestured, and the guards dragged the three away. Hao Baishuang, with her face pale, said nothing more, knowing that her words would not make a difference. Deng Shi and the midwife, on the other hand, kept begging for mercy, though no one showed them an ounce of sympathy.
