Chapter 755: Chapter 757 Do you dare to be more shameless?
Lin Zhenghui also started scribbling with his tea on the table, sharing to Jiang Yichun the news he had accidentally come across while collecting information about the Chengshui country’s delegation.
Jiang Yichun’s face drastically changed. He hurriedly wrote on the table: I fear today is just the beginning, there might be bigger things coming...
Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but shudder and found herself asking, "When will we return to Beiyu City?"
Since the two men were writing on the table, her sudden question seemed out of place. They both froze, mutually exchanging glances, and Lin Zhenghui let out an exasperated sigh.
Jiang Yichun looked at Bai Ruozhu with an apologetic glare, held her hand, and gently said, "I originally wanted to provide peace for you and our son, but in turn, I have plunged you into..."
He couldn’t finish his sentence; the situation had proceeded far beyond his expectations.
Bai Ruozhu silently shook her head, she wasn’t weak, but her momentary worries wouldn’t consume her.
Moreover, if the Danliang country fell into chaos, Beiyu City, being the closest to the Duke’s territory, would also be affected in the same way and wouldn’t fare any better than the Capital city.
"The whole world belongs to the ruler, so, it’s the same wherever we go. Rest assured, I can take care of Dengdeng and myself." She softly said, rapidly moving on to write about the Poisonous Insect incident on the table.
The more Jiang Yichun read, the more alarmed he became. He wasn’t present to personally deal with it on that day, yet the Poisonous Insect from Wu Wanqing had found its way to him undetected; he even unknowingly passed it onto Dengdeng when he held him.
Bai Ruozhu also tried to get the little Furball to detect the Poisonous Insect in Jiang Yichun, but Furball shook its head, seemingly quite powerless.
"There’s still a chance for me, but now I have to make a trip to the Palace." Jiang Yichun looked at Bai Ruozhu apologetically and smirked. "I will be back soon."
Bai Ruozhu nodded. If the Emperor was injured, assassination attempts were likely. If the Emperor suddenly died, the whole Danliang country would be thrown into turmoil.
Jiang Yichun left his wounded subordinates in Bai Ruozhu’s care, and then swiftly departed with the Imperial Guards.
Lin Zhenghui shook his head and said quietly, "I must also go to the Commerce Association to make provisions. If something big happens, the Commerce Association will be equally affected."
"No!" Bai Ruozhu immediately stopped Lin Zhenghui, "Master, although the Commerce Association does not participate in palace affairs, are there no people within it who secretly support the Duke or other factions?"
Lin Zhenghui was taken aback, and it took him a while before he responded, "You’re right, not even the Association’s head can be entirely trusted. Given the current tense situation, it’s better to be cautious."
Bai Ruozhu asked La Mei to take care of the wounded while she returned to her chamber with Dengdeng to sleep. Lin Zhenghui set off to find trusted people from his faction.
Jiang Yichun didn’t come back that night, nor did he return during the following day. It was nearly midnight when Bai Ruozhu, drowsy with sleep, felt a cold body slip into their bed. A familiar scent filled her nose, she said nothing, but knew he had returned.
She turned around, wrapped her arms around his neck, and lazily asked, "How did it go?"
In the darkness, his weary eyes suddenly lit up, a subtle hint of amusement hiding within them. He leaned in close to her ear, whispering, "The danger has been eliminated. The Emperor said he will reward you."
Bai Ruozhu pouted, "I don’t need any rewards; a pardon token is enough."
Jiang Yichun’s slightly cold hand found it’s way to her waist. He chuckled, "You little scaredy-cat."
Being touched by him like this dispelled most of her sleepiness. She glared and retorted, "Where am I acting like a child? My mental age is definitely older than yours!"
He chuckled softly, not bothering to argue over such details. His hand roamed higher, his mouth blew warm air into her ear, asking, "Did you miss me?"
"No, no! Go away, you didn’t talk to me when you arrived at the Capital, and you haven’t even apologized by kneeling on a washboard yet!" Bai Ruozhu slapped his mischievous hand, barking angrily.
He continued his actions unperturbed by her slight resistance. In his mind, her weak strength seemed hardly restrictive.
"It’s not my fault. Besides, you obviously missed me terribly. You hugged me as soon as you saw me. It seems your body is more honest than your mouth. He whispered teasingly into her ear, and then swiftly licked her earlobe.
Um... Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but let out a soft moan, admitting to herself she missed him. She missed him as a person, and also his affection.
She decided to settle the scores slowly later. Thinking this, she tightened her arms around his neck, warmly reciprocating. Soon, their heated bodies intertwined, their passionate embrace lasting till dawn...
It was nearly dawn when Bai Ruozhu finally managed to get some sleep. Before sleeping, she made a mental note never to give this man an easy time, or he would torment her to death!
She awoke close to noon, stirred by the sound of Dengdeng’s laughter from outside the door. As she put on her clothes, she saw Jiang Yichun playing with Dengdeng in the yard. He looked a little thinner, and stubble had started to grow on his chin.
Her annoyance from the morning evaporated instantly. She got dressed quickly and told the pair, "I’ll whip us up a few dishes, get ready for lunch in a bit."
Jiang Yichun turned to her and smiled. Despite the stubble on his chin, he didn’t appear unkempt. Instead, it added a touch of maturity to his appearance. Seeing him like this, Bai Ruozhu found herself momentarily lost before she blushingly walked away. Even though they were an old married couple, she still couldn’t resist his charm. She felt like a smitten teenager, which was a little embarrassing.
On noticing that he had slimmed down quite a bit, she decided to cook a nutrient-dense soup. She silently resolved to help him gain weight, since a skinny man didn’t have the best of looks.
At lunch, Jiang Yichun was famished and ate three big bowls of rice. Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but protest, "Don’t you eat food while you’re away? And why don’t you take better care of yourself, why do you work yourself so hard?"
Jiang Yichun looked up and smirked at her, "Mainly because I had an exhausting night, and you, my dear, are responsible."
Bai Ruozhu immediately blushed crimson as she understood his implications. She kicked him under the table and snappily said, "Can you be any more shameless?"
"How was I being shameless? Obviously, you missed me terribly. I had to try harder, didn’t I?" Jiang Yichun calmly replied, his tone serious as if he was saying an undeniable truth.
"You..." Bai Ruozhu’s sentence trailed off as she struggled to contain her anger. She watched as La Mei, red-faced, escaped to the yard, leaving her overwhelmed with embarrassment.
The peaceful days passed like so for two days until someone from the palace came to read the Holy Edict.
