Chapter 717: Chapter 719: Extremely Dangerous, He Can’t Be Sacrificed

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes widened as she saw the man grabbed her out like a small chicken. Outside, the dark guards were already fighting the opponents. Unfortunately, she was unable to utter a single word.

Upon seeing her being captured, Wei San shouted urgently, "The lady is captured, all of you go and save her!"

The one holding Bai Ruozhu put a sword against her neck and spoke loudly, "Everyone, be still. My master just wants to ask her some questions. She will surely return unharmed in two hours. However, if you dare intervene further, I will not hesitate to kill her." As he spoke, he pressed the blade, cutting a bit of Bai Ruozhu’s fair neck. Immediately, blood started flowing, creating a striking contrast against her white skin.

The dark guards didn’t dare to move, fearful of harming Bai Ruozhu. Even the men sent by Jiang Yichun couldn’t dare to retaliate. The enemy embodied a threat too serious - even if they used their hidden weapons, the enemy would have had enough time to kill Bai Ruozhu before being struck down.

Bai Ruozhu moved her eyes to indicate to them not to worry and just do as the captor asked.

Suddenly, the man in black who was holding her quickly left, with a few others following behind. They coldly warned the dark guards, "Anyone who dares to follow will be responsible for their master’s death!"

Bai Ruozhu was annoyed that she couldn’t speak; otherwise, she could have tried to figure out the identity of the captors. She thought about the people sent by the Hao family, but then again, they wouldn’t have this capability. They would rather kill her directly rather than going through this fuss.

It was very likely Wu Yunfeng, or the Durchi Historian, Sun Chengchao. Wu Wanqing had disappeared, leaving them unable to find any clues, so they shifted their attention to her.

Bai Ruozhu suddenly calmed down. She hadn’t done anything wrong, so there was nothing to fear from their investigations. She felt relieved that she hadn’t done anything on that day.

Turns out, she was right. She was brought into the Wu residence, where both Wu Yunfeng and Sun Chengchao were waiting for her.

Bai Ruozhu was seen by the man in black who relieved her silence, although her body was still immobile.

"So it was you who caught me. Is this how the imperial court treats its meritorious subjects?" Bai Ruozhu coldly looked at both of them and asked.

A cold flicker lurked in Wu Yunfeng’s eyes. He hadn’t received any news about his daughter and he decided to interrogate Bai Ruozhu, regardless of the potential reactions from Jiang Yichun.

Sun Chengchao looked at Bai Ruozhu and sneered, "Even meritorious subjects can’t violate the law. Now that you have dark guards from the Commerce Association, it’s not difficult to capture Miss Wu. Just be honest, did you actually conspire to harm her?"

"Are you trying to frame me? I could say the same about you taking advantage of her and then silencing her!" Bai Ruozhu bluntly stated.

The color drained from Sun Chengchao’s face, who hadn’t been spoken to in such a way for many years, let alone by a woman.

"Just confess, it would save you unnecessary suffering and keep Yichun out of this trouble." Wu Yunfeng finally spoke.

Bai Ruozhu looked at Wu Yunfeng, "So, you are planning to harm your own disciple now?"

Unhappy with Bai Ruozhu’s current attitude, Sun Chengchao took out a small medicine bottle and said, "There’s no need to talk nonsense with her. She will surely confess once she drinks this." Immediately after, he commanded someone to force open Bai Ruozhu’s mouth and pour in the medicine.

Unable to resist the warrior-guard, the poison entered Bai Ruozhu’s body, filling her with anxiety. She had often used antidotes as a countermeasure during her daily medication practices. Ordinary poisons don’t affect her at all. But that doesn’t mean she is immune to every kind of poison, especially the ones brought out by the Durchi Historian, for they were anything but ordinary.

However, after a while, she felt no pain and started to suspect whether the drug was truly ineffective. But she quickly realized her mistake: rather than a torture drug to make her confess, it was a drug to numb and confuse her senses, causing her to involuntarily confess.

No! She couldn’t let slip any information about Jiang Yichun. Wu Yunfeng would surely kill Jiang Yichun! Anxiety welled up inside her, and she felt as though she was being roasted on a spit. She was so frantic that tears streamed down her face, yet she couldn’t prevent the effects of the poison.

"Yes, I truly hate Wu Wanqing. She wanted to take my son and even used a poisonous insect on a toddler. A woman cruel like that doesn’t deserve any sympathy. Nobody would pity her in death!" Bai Ruozhu heard her own voice uncontrollably spilling out. Her lips moved involuntarily, uttering words she couldn’t control. It seemed as if the mouth didn’t belong to her, and neither did the voice.

However, the voice indeed stemmed from her own throat and echoed from her mouth in her own voice. How could she stop this damned voice from saying something more?

"So, did you send an assassin after her?" Sun Chengchao asked, squinting his eyes.

"I did send someone after her. However, by the time they arrived, she had already disappeared. What a shame..." Bai Ruozhu felt her heart climbing up to her throat. She knew the conversation was dangerously close to touching on the topic of Jiang Yichun, but she was utterly unable to control herself!

Just then, a small bug suddenly drilled out, probably sensing her anxiety and bit her in the palm. After saving Dengdeng from the poisonous insect and devouring it, the small bug had gone into the jade bottle and hadn’t come out till then, probably because it was in dormant state. Thankfully, it had woken up just in time now.

Bai Ruozhu gradually felt she regained control over herself, and the disturbing voice didn’t ring again.

Wu Yunfeng stared at her and asked, "What happened next? Did you truly not find her?"

Bai Ruozhu had regained her consciousness, but she pretended that she was still under the influence and unhesitatingly said, "What else could I have done without meeting her? Just feel sorry for my son who suffered for nothing and couldn’t get justice."

"What about Jiang Yichun? Did he not go after Wu Wanqing?" Sun Chengchao suddenly asked.

"Hmph, he told me that his master would teach Wu Wanqing a lesson and asked me not to cause trouble. My unwillingness to accept this is why I wanted to teach Wu Wanqing a lesson," continued Bai Ruozhu.

Wu Yunfeng and Sun Chengchao looked at each other, seemingly convinced.

"Did you leak the Suturing Technique to Chengshui Country?" Sun Chengchao asked again.

"No, I wouldn’t dare risk my entire family’s lives," Bai Ruozhu replied.

Sun Chengchao remained silent for a long time, before turning to Wu Yunfeng and saying, "The effects of the Soul-Captivating Powder in this medicine are extraordinary. It’s just too expensive. I have made a huge investment today for your sake. It’s a pity she truly doesn’t know anything. Do you think Wanqing might have hidden herself?"

"She should at least have sent me a message, don’t you think?" Wu Yunfeng said, frowning.

"Maybe she was afraid you would punish her. When she’s tired of hiding and thinks that you have calmed down, she will send you a message," Sun Chengchao replied, patting his shoulder.

Wu Yunfeng stayed silent. Suddenly, sounds of fighting echoed from outside, followed by Jiang Yichun’s voice, "Give my wife back to me!"
