Soon after, the old lady sent a message for them to come in. As they followed the servant towards Yuanran Residence, they saw Nanny Lu coming out to greet them even before they reached the entrance. Bai Ruozhu chuckled, guessing Nanny Lu must be eager to meet her husband and find out what was going on.

"Nanny Lu, this is my husband, Chang Sheng." Bai Ruozhu introduced him then turned to Jiang Yichun, "This is Nanny Lu from Madame Meng, she has taken good care of me."

Jiang Yichun nodded and paid respects to Nanny Lu. There was no sudden warmth in his manner, nor a trace of currying favor, just an emphasis on proper etiquette.

Nanny Lu was instantly charmed by his demeanor, sure that he came from a distinguished background just from his poise and posture while greeting her.

"Nanny, my husband suffered a fall and lost his memory of me and our son. When he remembered, he came to find us immediately." Bai Ruozhu explained to Nanny Lu with a smile. She didn’t mention that Jiang Yichun was affected by a forgetful poison; it was a complicated matter to explain.

"Oh my, how frightful." Nanny Lu muttered and stole a glance at Jiang Yichun. His chilly appearance softened considerably whenever he looked at Bai Ruozhu.

Nanny Lu nodded faintly, her years of experience telling her exactly what was going on.

Soon after, they entered the Yuanran Residence. Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun greeted Madame Meng, and Bai Ruozhu introduced Jiang Yichun to her, maintaining that his name was Chang Sheng.

Jiang Yichun produced a wooden box and handed it to the old lady, saying, "Because of the kindness Madame has shown Ruozhu, I bring this small gift in respect to you."

Bai Ruozhu was surprised when she saw the wooden box in his hand and realized why he had left abruptly the night before.

Nanny Lu took the box and passed it to the old lady. Upon opening the box, Madame Meng looked at its contents with an icy stare, her eyes betrayed her surprise. The box contained high-quality cordyceps, a rarity even in the Meng Residence inventory.

Madame Meng closed the lid, hiding her surprise. She gave Jiang Yichun a cold glance, saying, "You have let such a good woman wait for you for such a long time. She not only cares for her child but the whole household too. Are you okay with that?"

Bai Ruozhu felt touched hearing Madame Meng’s defense for her. The Old Lady appeared to treat her like a beloved granddaughter, fiercely defending her against any perceived injustices.

Jiang Yichun respectfully bowed to Madame Meng, saying in a deep voice, "Your advice is well taken, Madame. I’ve let down Ruozhu and Dengdeng. Therefore, I must spend the rest of my life making it up to them, taking care of and protecting them."

Nanny Lu quickly added, "Madame, there is something which we did not know. Mr. Chang Sheng had lost his memory due to a severe injury, but as soon as he recovered, he immediately came to find Ruozhu and their child."

Madame Meng softened her gaze towards Jiang Yichun after hearing this, but a hint of resentment towards him still lingered.

To prevent the situation from worsening, Bai Ruozhu quickly took out the finished screen, saying, "Madame, the screen is ready, take a look and see if there’s anything that needs changing."

Madame Meng turned her experienced gaze from Jiang Yichun and focused on the screen. When the maids held the screen to its full height, the delicate lettering was clearly visible. The screen appeared both elegant and understated, radiating profound depth on closer inspection.

Jiang Yichun looked at the screen with admiration clearly etched on his face. His gaze softening towards Bai Ruozhu, he was impressed by his wife’s talent.

Madame Meng noticed all of this, nodding to herself deep down inside. She deemed Bai Ruozhu’s husband to be quite good, his genuine feelings for her were apparent from their interaction, which displayed his affection. Moreover, the young man’s demeanor was quite unique; most men would have been intimidated under her scrutinizing stare, yet he had remained calm throughout the encounter.

Additionally, the cordyceps he presented clearly showed his intention to reciprocate the favors extended to his wife. Clearly, he held Bai Ruozhu close to his heart.

While her face betrayed nothing, Madame Meng approved of Jiang Yichun’s performance.

"Good, this is already very good, no need for any changes." Madame Meng expressed her approval.

Upon hearing the old lady’s words, Bai Ruozhu laughed heartily and said, "I’m glad you are satisfied, Madame. I will make another one and send it to you after a while, so you will have a spare."

Madame Meng chuckled, commending, "It seems you have thought everything through."

Afterwards, Bai Ruozhu informed Madame Meng of her plans with Chang Sheng to go to the Capital the following month. Madame Meng glanced at Jiang Yichun and said, "The journey to the Capital is not short, can he take proper care of you?"

Jiang Yichun responded immediately. There was nothing exaggerated in his expression, no grand promises, just the serious assurance of something one ought to do.

Madame Meng’s gaze remained on him and she did not reply immediately. Even Bai Ruozhu, standing by his side, began to nervously sweat on Jiang Yichun’s behalf. Madame Meng withdrew her piercing gaze only after a moment and said, "Alright, remember what you promised today. If Ruozhu suffers even a little bit, I will not let you go!"

"Thank you, Madame, for your love and care for Ruozhu." Jiang Yichun bowed to Madame Meng, expressing his gratitude and respect. He could tell how earnestly Madame Meng cared about Bai Ruozhu.

Afterwards, Madame Meng didn’t keep them there for too long. She only reminded Bai Ruozhu to stay a few days in Meng Residence before embarking on their journey to The Capital.

After they left, Madame Meng’s face reflected a look of deep thought. After a moment, she sighed lightly, saying, "Nanny Lu, do you think that young man looks somewhat familiar?"
