Chapter 668: Chapter 670: Butterfly and Ji Ziyan
Zhou Jue had suffered from severe injuries and was chased by Danliang Country Public Relations Department people into mountains. It was then that he realized that he had underestimated the capabilities of Danliang Country PR Department. After lying low for a long while, he quietly escaped back to Beiyu City, intending to meet up with his secret base and subordinates.
Fearing exposure of his whereabouts, he had to take a detour through less populated allies. Halfway through, a sickly, sweet taste filled his mouth and he vomited a mouthful of blood.
"Damn it, why now..." He muttered softly, his face darkening.
Soon, he slumped against a wall, vomiting fresh blood again. His face turned pale, and he collapsed onto the ground.
His face was as pale as a sheet of paper. Now, huddled on the ground, he looked nothing like his tall and imposing self, and more like a frail and sickly beauty.
Footsteps echoed from the entrance of the alley, causing Zhou Jue to tense up. But he was barely movable. He bit the tip of his tongue, and with a mild crackling sound, his body shrank back to that of a woman’s.
The approaching footsteps sounded messy and did not seem like those of martial artists. Zhou Jue sighed in relief, thinking surely, anyone wandering alone in such a place would have to be a man, right?
If it is a man, it would be perfect; he was really in need of a man right now...
Ji Ziyan had just went to Tang Private School and had informed them that he would start teaching in a few days. He was now planning to return home. As he was quite poor, he had rented a secluded place in Beiyu City, in a house located within a back alley.
As he walked, he noticed a woman lying on the ground in apparent distress. Afraid something had happened to her, he quickened his pace to ask, "Madam, what happened to you? Do you need me to notify your family?"
Zhou Jue looked up to see a young man dressed as a scholar, who seemed to be in his mid-twenties. The man looked at him with an expression of elation, grabbing his arm, and exclaimed, "Wife, you’re back? Did Lord Yama send you back?"
Zhou Jue quickly shook off his hand, "You have the wrong person."
The elation on Ji Ziyan’s face slowly faded. He realized his mistake and hastily let go of Zhou Jue’s arm. "I apologise for the offence, I mistook you for someone else," he said, although his eyes couldn’t stop stealing glances at Zhou Jue.
Zhou Jue figured it out, the scholar’s wife must have already passed away, and she must have bore some resemblance to him. Zhou Jue chuckled to himself, the scholar’s wife must have been a beauty, he certainly had good fortune before.
Considering his current situation, Zhou Jue squinted his eyes. Before him was a ripe opportunity.
His hand suddenly reached out to hold Ji Ziyan’s arm, whimpering softly, "Husband, I’ve missed you so much."
A bewildered look crossed Ji Ziyan’s face, his eyes fogged over, his gaze out of focus.
"Husband, take me home," he said in a coquettish voice.
"Alright." Ji Ziyan picked up Zhou Jue, his posture shaky due to the weight, almost making him stumble. A cold smirk appeared at the corner of Zhou Jue’s mouth as he cursed inwardly: What a useless man.
He had been raised as a daughter since young and had believed that he was a princess of Chengshui country, the only princess, the emperor’s most beloved daughter before he learned the truth. Not until later did he learn it was a joke, he was clearly a male, but by that time, it was too late. By the time his master had found him, he had been fed poison for several years that changed his body to that of a woman, even the voice change expected in adolescence wasn’t there, hence he had a voice similar to a woman.
His master rescued him, training him extensively in martial arts and poison techniques, but as the years passed, even though he wasn’t suffering from the initial poison, he developed a chronic disease. In other words, his body was peculiar and needed a balance of Yin and Yang.
For this reason, he had also learned the art of Yin absorption and fortification. But he didn’t want to absorb Yin to supplement his Yang; he wanted to absorb Yin to fortify his Yin, reversing his transformation into a woman. This way he couldn’t absorb any more, and on top of that, he would be hit by bouts of illness. During these bouts, he could only rely on robust men for Yin absorption.
He used a type of poison on Ji Ziyan, one that would make him hallucinate and arouse his desires. Once Ji Ziyan carried him home, he continually called him "Wife" and pinned him down on the bed.
Zhou Jue didn’t expect the seemingly frail scholar Ji Ziyan to be quite capable in that area. He was so swept away by Ji Ziyan’s tenderness that for a moment, he even believed he was truly the scholar’s wife.
Zhou Jue had considered transitioning into a woman, given his situation. He had been raised as a girl till his teens, and often fantasized about becoming a noble’s wife, bearing children, teaching them, and fulfilling her wifely duties. Unfortunately, even though he could physically transform into a woman through continued medication, he knew he wouldn’t be able to conceive.
So, just as he had threatened Bai Ruozhu, he claimed to hate children. But the real reason was that he couldn’t bear children.
In the end, Zhou Jue passed out from exhaustion on Ji Ziyan’s bed, but his chronic illness was temporarily suppressed.
...
Bai Ruozhu had taken a bath in her manor’s backyard, dressed in fresh clothes, and asked her mother to keep the events of the day a secret to avoid unnecessary gossip.
When she made her appearance, Fang Guizhi grabbed her arm, asking anxiously, "What just happened? We looked everywhere for you! You scared us to death."
After sending a telling glance to her mother, Bai Ruozhu replied, "I felt tired and wanted to freshen up. I fell asleep, and my mother didn’t notice."
Lin Ping had checked the hot spring in the backyard earlier, offering Bai Ruozhu a good excuse.
"What a false alarm, at least you are alright," Fang Guizhi patted her chest in relief, "Do you know, today’s business was excellent. The maids were given a handsome reward! They are uworking strenuously, even I received a reward!" She swung two pouches of money in front of Bai Ruozhu’s face like a kid showing off her treasure.
Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh, "Are you satisfied just with this? There will be more to come."
Fang Guizhi laughed ecstatically, "That’s great! I can save up a small fortune!"
"Yes indeed! You should start saving for your dowry now, we will arrange your marriage this year," Bai Ruozhu said while observing Guizhi’s reaction carefully. Guizhi did blush but she didn’t seem particularly averse or upset.
It seems she has truly moved on.
After inquiring about the situation of the manor and meeting a few guests, she went to the backyard but didn’t find Jiang Yichun. Asking her mother revealed that Lin Ping hadn’t seen him either, assuming he left due to an emergency.
Bai Ruozhu felt a pang of desolation, wondering what Jiang Yichun meant by leaving without even a word of goodbye?
