That night, Bai Ruozhu had already put Dengdeng to sleep when she was suddenly woken up by a scream from the main hall. It was the old lady’s voice, this old lady was just too dramatic!

"Is everyone dead? I’m old and can’t move, and no one even brings me a basin of water to wash my feet?" The old lady started shouting at the top of her voice. She had actually been calling for Lin Ping’er earlier, but Lin Ping’er, who was already undressed and in bed in Bai Zepei’s room, completely ignored her.

"Can I ignore her?" Wan Caiyue asked worriedly.

"You go to bed and sleep, say you had a headache and went to bed early in the morning and didn’t hear any noise." Bai Zehao suggested to Wan Caiyue.

Wan Caiyue thought about it and agreed that Old Mrs. Bai was going too far. Even though she was kind-hearted, she was not ignorantly dutiful. She took off her clothes and went under the quilt, choosing to sleep and pretending not to hear anything.

Old Mrs. Bai later shouted so miserably that she woke up the neighbours. An old man in the neighbouring yard who seemed to have a bad temper shouted, "What foot washing in the middle of the night? What were you doing earlier? Make another peep and I’ll report to the authorities and have you taken away!"

"How much did you pay for that wet nurse?" The old lady straightaway brought up the subject of money.

"I’m not sure, it was all arranged by Zehao’s mother," Bai Yihong answered honestly, men weren’t supposed to worry about such matters.

Bai Yihong was somewhat annoyed when he heard this and muttered, "The matter of managing the household is supposed to be a woman’s job, mother, you’re overthinking."

The old lady’s voice rose a notch, "How am I overthinking? Look at your pampered daughter, she’s started acting like a lady of the manor, ignoring her own child, and hiring a wet nurse, isn’t she afraid of straining her back by prancing about too much?"

But her body is weak and she’s pregnant, that’s why she can’t get up, you mustn’t let grandma torment her.
