Chapter 544: Chapter 546: Eavesdropping Isn’t Always a Bad Thing
"I heard from my master that you were caught by Li Yi after running away. Were you scared?" He closed the door, immediately turned around to pull Bai Ruozhu into his embrace, and asked softly.
Wu Wanqing, who was still outside, heard the sound of the door closing and Jiang Yichun’s concerned voice. She felt uncomfortable, as if something was blocking her heart. Had her third senior brother changed? Didn’t he say he was going to marry her? Why had he changed in less than two years?
In the room, Bai Ruozhu gave Jiang Yichun an unhappy stare and said, "Yes, I was caught twice!"
Bai Ruozhu did not explain the details to Wu Yunfeng and initially, she didn’t want to complain to Jiang Yichun either. But when she saw how deeply Wu Wanqing was looking at him, she felt particularly uncomfortable and blurted out her feelings out of anger.
"What?" Jiang Yichun was startled and immediately held her tight questioning, "You weren’t hurt, right? How did you manage to escape?"
"The first time, he thought I was just a village woman, and he didn’t guard against me, so I managed to poison him." Bai Ruozhu casually shrugged. "The second time, I had almost reached Beiyu City, but he stopped me. Later I found out that he had poisoned me with an insect. The poisonous insect he held could detect my location."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yichun quickly took Bai Ruozhu’s wrist to check her pulse, ensuring that she hadn’t been poisoned. Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief.
"Later, I was knocked unconscious by him, and taken back to his residence in Beiyu City." Bai Ruozhu paused here but decided not to mention that she woke up to find that her clothes had been changed.
"Actually, I had a chance to kill him." Bai Ruozhu pouted, "But I figured that he must be protected by his inner-strength. What if I failed to kill him and ended up jeopardizing myself instead?"
Jiang Yichun quickly nodded, "You not having martial arts and refraining from rash actions is correct, otherwise, you might have suffered broken bones by now."
Bai Ruozhu shrank her neck upon hearing this. Her guess was indeed correct, she was glad she didn’t act rashly.
"That Uncle Li was very self-righteous posing in front of me, saying that he wanted to take me as a concubine, but look at how old he is." Bai Ruozhu made a disgusted face while speaking.
Jiang Yichun’s face darkened and his grip around Bai Ruozhu tightened. "I’m sorry you had to go through all this because of me."
Bai Ruozhu pivoted to ensnare his neck, stood on her toes to quickly peck his lips, and said, "I decided to come looking for you on my own accord. Now it appears my decision was absolutely correct, and plus, we both came back safe."
Jiang Yichun’s lips felt itchy under her kitten-like licking, he quickly transformed into a hungry wolf, passionately kissing her back. He clasped her head not allowing her to dodge, kissing her deep until both of them nearly ran out of breath.
Since they had nearly gone all the way last time, Jiang Yichun was a lot bolder now. His large hand started wandering while they were kissing. Bai Ruozhu, having missed him too much, **** night after night with worry which finally ended with his safe return. She wouldn’t mind even if he took a bit more than just a kiss, even if he wanted her entirely, she would willingly submit.
Just as they were getting lost in the moment, footsteps could be heard from outside. Very soon a maid’s voice rose outside the door: "Third Master, the Miss invites you to cure her illness. She said that she is now ready."
Bai Ruozhu’s eyes darkened a bit. Did Wu Wanqing need him this quickly? And why did he have to go to her yard for the treatment?
She raised her brows looking at Jiang Yichun, indicating that he should give an explanation. Jiang Yichun instantly felt a headache coming on. He had noticed his junior sister’s intentions, he didn’t expect that after observing mourning for the senior brother for three months, she would develop such feelings. He... should find an opportunity to clear things up with her.
"Tell the Miss that the poison can be detoxified here, or we can return to my yard." Jiang Yichun answered.
The maid waiting outside replied unhurriedly, "The Miss said that the poisonous insect cure requires a large amount of medicinal materials and an array. Changing places would require the array to be set up from scratch, delaying the process by several days."
Bai Ruozhu pulled at Jiang Yichun’s sleeve and whispered, "You can’t delay the curing of the poisonous insect. I’ll accompany you for the treatment."
Jiang Yichun lifted Bai Ruozhu’s hand to his lips and kissed it, chuckling, "As long as you trust me, even if I jumped into the Yellow River, it wouldn’t be enough to clear my name."
Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh. She didn’t like suppressing her feelings and finding it hard to breathe. Therefore, once things were made clear, she chose to trust him.
Both followed the maid to Wu Wanqing’s yard. All the way there, Jiang Yichun held Bai Ruozhu’s hand without letting go. Initially, Bai Ruozhu was a little embarrassed, but thinking that Jiang Yichun was doing it to make his position clear to everyone in the residence and especially to Wu Wanqing, she knew she couldn’t back down.
Sure enough, when Wu Wanqing saw them holding hands, her eyes darkened a bit and the look she gave Jiang Yichun was slightly resentful.
"Let’s get started." Wu Wanqing said calmly, "Senior brother, please sit cross-legged in the middle of the array in the room."
After that, she turned to Bai Ruozhu and with an apologetic look said, "Miss Bai, please wait outside."
Bai Ruozhu looked at her and asked with an inquisitive look. Wu Wanqing smiled and explained, "I am sorry, but my unique secret technique cannot be seen by outsiders."
Bai Ruozhu looked at Jiang Yichun who nodded slightly, awkwardly confirming that Wu Wanqing wasn’t lying. But arranging the detoxification in her own yard, in her bedroom even, this detoxification that would take half a month—any fool could see it as her intention.
Bai Ruozhu forced out a smile and nodded, "Then you should proceed. I’ll just wait in the yard."
"I’ll have the maid bring you tea and dim sum." After Wu Wanqing finished speaking, she immediately instructed the maid to bring tea.
Jiang Yichun gave Bai Ruozhu an apologetic smile, then followed Wu Wanqing into the room.
As the room door closed, Bai Ruozhu was agitated and this wasn’t a pleasant feeling, she felt like her stomach was filled with bubbling acidic water! But all she could do was bear it. She couldn’t lash out at Wu Wanqing. After all, Wu Wanqing had maintained proper decorum, and she could remove Jiang Yichun’s poisonous insect. How could she quarrel with her and affect Jiang’s poison removal because of jealousy?
Very soon, the maid brought tea and dim sum. She poured Bai Ruozhu a cup of tea and then stood by waiting, but Bai Ruozhu felt as though she was being watched.
However, that didn’t matter, as she was already on high alert and had started to listen. The stone table she was sitting at was some distance away from Wu Wanqing’s room. Nobody else would have been able to hear what was happening inside, especially someone without inner strength. But she was different—she had already heard the sound of Wu Wanqing sprinkling medicine liquid.
"Junior sister, you....." Jiang Yichun spoke quietly in a low voice, sounding slightly angry, it seemed Wu Wanqing had done something to him.
"Senior brother, you’ve changed. Why do you behave so indifferently with me now? Don’t you remember what you once said to me?" Wanqing’s voice was also very small, coupled with her sobbing, while sounding resentful, seemed rather cloying, not raising any offense.
"Junior sister, you’re married, and I’ll be married soon too. We are no longer kids, the words I said to you before were before your marriage. You are already married to our senior brother." Jiang Yichun replied bluntly.
From inside the room, Wu Wanqing’s low sobbing was heard. On hearing it, Bai Ruozhu’s lips curved up into a smirk. Indeed, eavesdropping didn’t seem like such a bad thing. At least it made her feel a lot better.
