Chapter 362: Chapter 362: Let Jiang Yichun Investigate Chang Sheng

This time, Bai Zepei didn’t speak any further, obviously satisfied with the outcome.

Wang Family’s matron stole a glance at her brother. The painful swell on his forehead bothered her. She began to blame him in her mind. If he hadn’t knocked his head so loudly, she wouldn’t have had to do the same.

Thinking of this, she became even more dissatisfied with her brother, considering him to be too weak.

When Bai Lu saw it was enough, he spoke: "Wang Youcai, we’re letting you off for today. If any of you dares to provoke our Bai Family again, our response won’t be as mild as smashing a few things."

Wang Youcai tried to speak, but a stern look from Bai Lu forced him to shut up immediately.

Wang family’s old lady wanted to curse at them, but Bai Ruozhu coldly warned her, "I have cured your stroke for now, but it doesn’t mean you will never have another one. If you lose your temper and curse at people, you’re sure to have a relapse."

The old lady opened her mouth but in the end, she chose to prioritize her life and kept silent.

Wang Xiujun looked at Bai Ruozhu and said: "When Wang Xiujun promises something, he does it. You have been kind to our Wang Family, if anyone in our family troubles you again, let me be struck by thunder!"

The onlookers nodded in agreement. In ancient times, vows were taken seriously. This shows how resolved Wang Xiujun was.

Bai Ruozhu just smiled and didn’t say anything else. Bai Lu saw it was all over and said: "Learn your lesson. Let’s go."

After he said these words, he turned and left. The rest of the Bai Family members followed him.

Bai Ruozhu had wanted to invite Bai Lu to stay for a meal, but he insisted he had work to do in the field. So they accompanied them until they reached the West Gate and watched as they walked away.

"Uncle Bai Lu probably didn’t want to disrupt our business," Bai Yihong said with a sigh. "He has done so much for our family. We must repay him when given the opportunity."

Bai Ruozhu nodded in agreement. Not just Bai Lu, even the Jin family were the people who saved her life. Luckily, Bai Yihong and the others, didn’t see the part where the Wang family’s matron almost chopped her down. Fearing that it would worry her family members, Bai Ruozhu didn’t mention this incident.

The four of them walked back together. Bai Zehao said enviously, "Sis, that sure looked satisfying, huh? The tribe leader didn’t ask me to smash anything. Otherwise, I could have had some fun too."

Bai Ruozhu glanced at his elder brother. "The tribe leader knew that you guys might lose your temper. He asked us women to do the smashing to avoid any trouble. And, didn’t you get to hit Wang Xiujun? Weren’t you satisfied with that?"

Bai Zehao chuckled. He then said thoughtfully, "Even though Wang Xiujun is far better than his parents."

"True that. Otherwise, today wouldn’t have gone smoothly for the Wang family," Bai Ruozhu responded.

As they talked and walked, no one asked Bai Ruozhu why she saved the old lady of the Wang Family. Bai Ruozhu was glad her thoughts aligned with her family’s.

Bai Zepei wanted to return to his studies, so he had to return to the West Courtyard first. Bai Ruozhu, worried for little Dengdeng, decided to go with Bai Zepei to pick up Dengdeng before heading to the stall.

"Sis, a new official document is going to be released. The results of the Child Student Exam are going to be annulled and the exam will be re-conducted next month," Bai Zepei suddenly said while they were on their way.

Bai Ruozhu had anticipated this. She replied, "A re-examination is fairer to the students who worked hard. Don’t feel pressured, Second Brother. Just do your best."

The higher you stand, the greater the pressure. Bai Zepei came first in the exam, and because Bai Yibo cheated, he became a topic of conversation behind his back. Thus, the re-examination was a chance for him to clear his name.

However, Bai Ruozhu didn’t want her second brother to feel too stressed or live an exhausting life.

"No problem, I have confidence," Bai Zepei assured her, speaking neither boastfully nor feigning strength. It seemed like he was talking about something trivial.

Bai Ruozhu secretly rolled her eyes. It seems her second brother wasn’t concerned at all, making her feel like she worried excessively.

"Are you on good terms with that man?" Bai Zepei suddenly asked.

Caught off guard by his question, Bai Ruozhu’s steps faltered and she tensed up. It felt as if her family had found out about the secret deed she was doing. Why would she feel this way? Maybe because Jiang Yichun was always sneaking into her place in the middle of the night?

"Which man?" Bai Ruozhu feigned ignorance.

Bai Zepei raised an eyebrow. His look clearly implied: Who are you fooling? You think you can trick me?

"Why not ask him to investigate Chang Sheng’s whereabouts," said Bai Zepei without verifying her ignorance.

"Ah?" Bai Ruozhu twitched the corner of her mouth at this. Imagining her explaining the situation to Jiang Yichun made her cringe.

Bai Zepei shook his head helplessly at her, "We need to figure out whether he’s alive or dead, doesn’t want to return or can’t return."

Bai Ruozhu just hummed lightly in response. She wasn’t her past self anymore. Chang Sheng was a stranger to her now. She didn’t want to figure it out. Or more accurately, she was afraid that once she did figure it out, Chang Sheng might come back.

If Chang Sheng came back and tried to take the baby away, she would definitely resist. But if Chang Sheng returned and wanted to live with her and the baby, what would she do?

Even though this body had had an intimate relationship with a stranger she had never met and even birthed a child, Bai Ruozhu could not accept a stranger in her life.

Moreover, the figure of a certain aloof person had gradually crept into her heart.

Seeing Bai Ruozhu like this, Bai Zepei didn’t push further. Bai Ruozhu seemed slightly distracted after that. They barely talked on the way back.

As they both entered the West Courtyard, Fang Guizhi came to welcome them. Seeing Bai Zepei, her mood obviously darkened.

"I’m going to study with my tutor. You guys carry on," Bai Zepei simply said, before walking away.

When Bai Ruozhu saw Guizhi’s mood worsen, she couldn’t bear it. She linked arms with Guizhi and asked, "Was baby Dengdeng well-behaved in the morning? He didn’t bother you too much, did he?"

Fang Guizhi cleared away her sadness and managed to put on a small smile. "He’s so well-behaved. He was lying there playing with his fingers."

Hearing this, Bai Ruozhu cheerfully teased, "My son is truly a sweetheart."

"Then I will be bringing Dengdeng to the stall. Otherwise, he will start crying out of hunger."

As they talked, they walked into the room. Bai Ruozhu picked up Dengdeng who was looking at her with big eyes. After seeing his mom, Dengdeng was particularly happy. He giggled non-stop and made a "poo-poo" sound towards Bai Ruozhu, even blowing bubbles with his saliva.

Bai Ruozhu was amused by his adorable behavior as she kissed him on the forehead, "Who taught you to make that ’poo-poo’ sound all the time?"

What she didn’t know was that Jiang Yichun had made whooshing sounds at him, and Dengdeng had picked it up.
