Chapter 255: The Arrogant Miss
Chapter 255: Chapter 255: The Arrogant Miss
Big sister... Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched again. Is this girl oblivious or just lack aesthetic senses?
At most, I would only be a year older than her. How could she dare call me ’big sister’?
Bai Ruozhu kept silent, continuing her work. The maid beside her, however, was not pleased and arrogantly shouted, "You rude village woman, can’t you hear that my young lady is talking to you?"
Upon hearing the commotion, Lin Ping’er hurriedly put on a conciliatory manner, "What’s going on? How has my daughter upset the young lady?"
The woman immediately waved a dismissing hand, "No, no. I just have something to ask ’big sister’. It’s my maid who does not know the rules. You guys don’t need to entertain her." She then turned and glared at the maid, whispering, "If you prattle on again, I’ll kick you out the door next time."
The maid stomped her foot indignantly but didn’t dare say more.
"Big sister, could you tell me his name and where he lives? I really won’t be able to stay around for long as I need to return the favor." The woman already had a pleading expression. If it wasn’t for the cooking smoke on Bai Ruozhu and the stove serving as a barrier in between them, Bai Ruozhu sensed that the woman would definitely try to act coquettishly by pulling her arm.
Bai Ruozhu took a deep breath, partly because she heard the word "big sister" again, and partly because she felt uncomfortable after reading something in the woman’s eager gaze.
Why did this woman show so much enthusiasm even without seeing his face? Wasn’t she afraid that there would be a scarred face under his mask? Bai Ruozhu began to feel irritated by Jiang Yichun again. Without showing his face, he’d already attracted so much unwanted attention. What about when he shows his handsome face? Wouldn’t that invite even more trouble?
"Big sister, would it be inconvenient for you? Let’s say it privately. You can just tell me one person." The woman lowered her voice and winked at Bai Ruozhu.
Bai Ruozhu sighed inwardly, if you know that it’s inconvenient, then why do you keep asking?
"Sorry, I don’t know his name, let alone where he lives," Bai Ruozhu answered in a low voice.
She couldn’t go around telling everyone about Jiang Yichun’s matters, and she didn’t want to. Now that he’d run into trouble and hadn’t even been cured of his poison, she couldn’t be careless. Who knew if this woman really admired him or was someone coming to assassinate Jiang Yichun?
"How can it be? I saw him talking to you." The woman had a face of disbelief and starting from Bai Ruozhu’s toes, took an unflattering look at her.
"He saved me once before, and he merely asked after seeing me with my child. Also, I can’t find him even if I want to repay the kindness." Bai Ruozhu responds to the woman with a sweet smile, "If miss manages to find him, please send a word my way. Even though my household is poor and doesn’t have any valuable gifts for our savior, I can at least prepare some hand-held pancakes for him to enjoy, right?"
The woman’s face darkened at her words, and she glared at Bai Ruozhu asking, "Is it that you really don’t know, or you don’t want to tell me?"
Bai Ruozhu feigned surprise, "Why wouldn’t I want to tell you? You said you couldn’t find him, how could a simple village woman like me find him?"
Perhaps the woman didn’t catch the hint of sarcasm in Bai Ruozhu’s words. Most likely in her opinion, Bai Ruozhu was indeed just a common village woman who wasn’t worth considering.
In the end, the woman huffed coldly and said, "If you see him again, tell him that I’m looking for him. Or else, don’t complain if I give you a tough time."
Look, when she was asking for something, her face was full of smiles. Now that she realized Bai Ruozhu knew nothing, her face turned sour, and she even started threatening. Indeed, she was no ordinary rich missy.
"Yes, yes, I understand," Bai Ruozhu lowered her head and mumbled, pretending to acquiesce in fear.
It seemed like the woman was quite satisfied. With a swirl of her skirts, she strutted off with her maid. As they left, the woman held her head high, as if coming to speak with Bai Ruozhu was a favor she’d done.
Once the woman was out of sight, Lin Ping’er spat out a curse, "What an upstart, showing off her power in our house."
"Mother, let it go. The young rich lady’s family has money. We can’t afford to offend them," Bai Ruozhu shrugged and said.
Bai Zehao leaned over and said in a hushed voice, "Isn’t it because you lack brains, being led in circles by your little sister?"
Bai Ruozhu chuckled softly, her eldest brother was once again elevating her to a divine status, how could she be that great?
"So, she was inquiring about the benefactor?" Lin Ping’er asked with some confusion.
Bai Ruozhu slightly nodded, "The benefactor does not want to reveal his identity, but this woman incessantly troubles us and even comes to ask me. How can I say anything to upset him?"
Lin Ping’er and others nodded, when someone wore a mask, it meant they were not comfortable revealing their true identities.
"If anyone comes asking about the benefactor in the next few days, don’t say much, and don’t call out to him. Just say you remember someone with a mask who once helped save me with Master County. He even came over for dinner, and forced us to accept money when we refused. Don’t say anything beyond that. What if the woman realizes we’re close to the benefactor and unrelentingly bothers us?"
The Bai Family didn’t know the benefactor with the mask was in trouble. Bai Ruozhu didn’t want them to know either, but she feared that the murderers would come to investigate, so she used this woman as a scapegoat.
Lin Ping’er nodded, "We understand. We will listen to you."
Bai Zehao and Bai Yihong also agreed. Bai Zehao reminded Bai Ruozhu: "You should also quietly tip off Fusa and the others."
Bai Ruozhu nodded, went over and gave Fusa a brief explanation. Fusa confidently said, "Don’t worry, I’m never one to chat too much."
"I know you well, don’t I? I’m just afraid that woman won’t stop bothering you." Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.
"I think if you can meet that person, you should tell him about this. Let him handle the situation. If he clarifies with her in person, it will prevent trouble," Fusa suggested.
Bai Ruozhu nodded, "You’re right, but given that person’s elusive behavior, who knows when I’ll bump into him."
...
Inside Anyuan Town’s underground money house, a burly masked man stood with his hands behind his back, and two individuals paid their respects to him fervently.
A man reported, "Sir, someone bought those three medicinal ingredients today, but there were as many as seven people."
"Which ones seem more suspicious?" asked the burly masked man, his voice gravelly. If Bai Ruozhu were here, she would instantly recognize him as the head of the murderers from the cliff edge.
"One woman wanted to buy Diamond Vine claiming the doctor had prescribed it as a rheumatism treatment for her father. She wanted to prepare the medicine before winter to spare her father from suffering." The man continued, "According to what we know, Jiang Yichun once saved that woman."
"Oh, how did he save her? Be more specific," the leader of the killers asked coldly, a murderous glint in his eyes.
"A few months ago, the woman encountered a child trafficker. In a moment of panic, she cried out, almost getting hurt by the trafficker. Jiang Yichun happened to be passing by and knocked down the trafficker."
"Even if it means killing a thousand by mistake, we can’t let one go!" the leader of the killers declared coldly.
