Chapter 253: Chapter 253: Can’t Take My Eyes Off
A strong arm wrapped around Bai Ruozhu’s waist, saving her face from an imminent meeting with the ground. Bai Ruozhu felt herself lighten as she was pulled towards him, even pressed tightly against him.
Once again, a warm breath brushed over her head. For a moment she was dazed and her mind drifted to the enchanting scene of feeding him medicine the day before. She shivered, only to be pulled even closer.
Jiang Yichun had watched her fall, silently cursing her clumsiness but still moving to catch her. The moment he touched her, he found himself involuntarily pulling her against him, keeping her close even after she regained her footing and showing no intention of letting go.
Of course, his other hand managed to save the potentially overturned medicine soup, only letting a little spill. It was her painstakingly brewed medicine - how could he bear to let it be won wastefully?
Bai Ruozhu felt somewhat dizzy as if the world was spinning. She looked up at him, meeting a pair of profound eyes that seemed to bear some sort of enchantment, as if they could abduct her very soul.
Time seemed to freeze, an invisible attraction between them drawing them closer and closer...
"Giggle..." Laughter rang out from Dengdeng on the bed. Even in the quiet room, it was incredibly obvious.
Bai Ruozhu came to her senses and pushed Jiang Yichun away, urgently moving to one side. She was mortified, caught in a compromising situation by her son!
She stood there, cheeks flushed, head hung low like a child caught doing something wrong by her parents. However, she didn’t realize that Dengdeng didn’t understand what had just happened.
Jiang Yichun was somewhat stunned. The sudden emptiness in his arms felt as if something had been torn away from him. Yet, the memory of her delicate warmth still lingered, making him feel incredibly uncomfortable when he compared the two sensations.
"Oh no, my medicine soup!" Bai Ruozhu exclaimed. How could she have forgotten? All her hard work had been for nothing.
However, she soon noticed Jiang Yichun holding the bowl of soup with barely any spilled out. She breathed a sigh of relief - there was no time to brew another batch, but it was clear that he needed to replenish his Qi Blood.
Jiang Yichun couldn’t help but chuckle. The woman, who just a moment ago had been blushing furiously, was now worrying about a bowl of soup not anticpating that the soup could have tipped over without making a sound.
His eyes brightened. Just now, she had been very invested in him, hence being caught off guard.
"Thank goodness your martial arts is good. Drink it while it’s hot. Don’t let my effort go to waste," Bai Ruozhu said, not daring to look at Jiang Yichun. From the moment she noticed that he’d caught not only her but also the bowl and soup she’d sent flying, she’d recognized his excellence, no, more than that - he was incredibly handsome!
Jiang Yichun, in high spirits, gulped down the medicine soup. Even the bitter taste of the cure seemed sweet in his mouth.
He placed the bowl on the side table and softly said, "Thank you."
"Oh, it’s nothing, just a small favor," Bai Ruozhu mumbled, her eyes fixed on the ground.
Jiang Yichun suddenly moved toward her. Instinctually, Bai Ruozhu backed away, but he kept moving without hesitation.
With her retreat, Bai Ruozhu found her back against a wall. Her heart pounded - what was he going to do?
Jiang Yichun was now so close that his body was pressing against Bai Ruozhu’s. He propped his arms on either side of her against the wall and looked down at her with an air of dominance.
"Two years, I’ll wait for you for two years," he said.
"Wha...?" Bai Ruozhu couldn’t comprehend his words.
"If your husband still hasn’t returned after two years, marry me," he proposed, his tone firm and without a hint of a question.
Jiang Yichun looked at Bai Ruozhu, who was now completely dumbfounded. He found it incredibly amusing, and a grin tugged at his lips. His captivating eyes sparkled as he gave her a playful wink, "Of course, if you find that you can’t help falling in love with me and want to marry me sooner, I am always open to that."
Bai Ruozhu finally snapped back to reality. She glared at Jiang Yichun, "Could you be more arrogant?"
Jiang Yichun chuckled lowly, suddenly leaning even closer, which took Bai Ruozhu aback and set her heart racing again.
Thankfully, he only moved close enough to whisper in her ear, "Am I not to your liking? I recall you’ve often stared at me quite intently."
Bai Ruozhu’s mind buzzed. God, was she being flirted with? His breath tickled her ear, but he swiftly moved back to his original position, gazing down at her. An unexpected wave of disappointment washed over her.
However, her attention was swiftly diverted by Jiang Yichun’s previous remark. When had she ever stared at him intently? She just admired how extraordinarily handsome he was at their first meeting, like a Painted Immortal. Where did she stare? This guy was such an egomaniac!
"No way, stop being so full of yourself," Bai Ruozhu said almost through clenched teeth.
"Look, you saved me once, I saved you once. We’re even. You don’t have to marry me. There are many good women out there. You don’t have to settle for me," Bai Ruozhu continued, her head still lowered, not knowing why a bitter taste lingered in her heart.
Jiang Yichun didn’t get angry, merely kept looking at her, "But what if I can’t take my eyes off of you? What then?"
"Wha...?" Bai Ruozhu didn’t quite understand his meaning. She raised her head in surprise to look at him, meeting his eyes filled with an affectionate and passionate gaze, as if it could melt her.
Despite her cluelessness in emotional matters, she was roused by this flaming gaze and realized that his feelings for her were more than just gratitude; he was genuinely in love with her.
Upon realizing this, Bai Ruozhu suddenly felt giddy. Oh my, had she actually swooned an extraordinarily handsome guy from the ancient times?
Having entertained this thought, her previous embarrassment vanished. She lifted her head to look at Jiang Yichun with a satisfied smirk, "Who I marry two years from now is up to my son."
Jiang Yichun paused, then laughed, "Your son seems to like me."
"Pshaw, we’ll see about that," Bai Ruozhu rolled her eyes.
Jiang Yichun was amused by her antics. Most women would be overly concerned with their appearance and conduct, especially in front of men. But she didn’t seem to care about that. Her peculiar actions didn’t detract from her appeal but rather, added to her charm.
Feeling a tickle in his heart, he couldn’t resist leaning in closer to her...
Just then, footsteps echoed from outside. Fang Guizhi was emerging from the kitchen and seemed to be headed towards Bai Ruozhu’s room!
