Chapter 225: Chapter 225: Turns Out to Be a Neat Freak
Bai Ruozhu heaved a sigh of relief. That was close. Thankfully, she managed to avoid it.
Looking ahead, she saw a woman standing in the middle of the road, her face filled with panic as she looked back at the oncoming mule car. The woman seemed to be so scared that she didn’t even know how to dodge.
"Ah..." Bai Ruozhu gasped softly, her heart clenched for the girl. If the mule gone mad crashed into her, the girl was likely to be badly injured, and might even lose her life.
At that moment, Bai Ruozhu saw a figure in dark clothes suddenly appear. The scene was chaotic, and she didn’t know how she managed to spot the figure, who was rushing towards the endangered girl.
Bai Ruozhu felt a tug at her heartstrings as if something had struck a chord with her. Her mind began to conjure up wild thoughts.
She remembered being saved by him, her collar gripped and yanked, making her feel like a turtle frantically kicking its legs in mid-air. So how was he going to save this woman?
The woman, despite her panic-stricken face, could not hide her beauty. At one glance, Bai Ruozhu could tell she was from a prestigious family. She wore delicate clothes, adorned with expensive and unique jewelry, she was likely not a resident of Anyuan Town.
In Bai Ruozhu’s mind, this resembled scenes from her previous life where heroes save beauties, elegant heroes appearing from the sky, grabbing the woman’s shoulder and whisking her away from danger. This was followed by slow-motion scene of the two landing from the sky, eye contact filled with deep affection.
Bai Ruozhu didn’t understand why these thoughts came to mind. In an instant, she felt a sense of discomfort in her heart and didn’t want to watch any further. That sharp-tongued man, she was sure, would certainly be able to save her.
Just as she was about to turn away, she saw Jiang Yichun suddenly used his unsheathed sword to pull the woman to the side. The mule car sped past, narrowly missing the woman. But the recoil of the pull caused her to stagger and fall down to the ground.
Bai Ruozhu was stunned. This man was completely devoid of chivalry. Couldn’t he lend her a hand? (But who was it that was just uncomfortable with the possible romantic scenario? Women really are forgetful.)
The fallen woman was in shock and began to whimper. She cried so pitifully while Jiang Yichun re-sheathed his sword, turned around, and chased after the runaway mule car. In just a few steps, he had caught up, leapt onto the mule’s back, and grabbed the reins to stop it.
"Thank you, hero." The owner of the mule chased after him, panting, thanking Jiang Yichun for his help. Jiang Yichun simply glanced at him and said, "Take good care of your livestock."
The man shivered. Those words sounded so cold, he felt goosebumps.
Jiang Yichun simply turned around and walked away without paying any more attention to the man.
Bai Ruozhu suddenly understood, he was fastidious, never wanting to touch others. No wonder he grabbed her by the collar last time. Bai Ruozhu began to feel better thinking about how Jiang Yichun hit Bai Yibo at the public hall while trying his best not to touch him.
Feeling better, she noticed, but did not acknowledge, the slight smile playing at her lips.
Jiang Yichun was moving very fast, clearly using some lightness skill. Before Bai Ruozhu could react, he had already appeared before her.
"You weren’t scared, were you?" Jiang Yichun’s cold voice rang out. But to Bai Ruozhu’s ears, it didn’t sound cold at all, in fact, it was quite pleasant.
"No problem. We moved away a long time ago." Bai Ruozhu responded with a smile on her face. She was truly in a good mood.
"That’s good. Hurry home." Jiang Yichun’s tone was not as cold as before but rather warm. If the mule’s owner heard this, he might suspect that he was hallucinating.
Bai Ruozhu nodded, took her leave from Jiang Yichun, but noticed the woman who was in danger was quickly approaching them.
"Thank you, sir, I’m really grateful!" The woman, obviously from a well-bred background, had quickly recovered from her scare. She wiped her tears, presenting herself as utterly calm. Her swollen, reddened eyes evoked sympathy, making her look like a strong woman, which made it impossible for people not to like her.
"Just did what anyone would do." After saying this, Jiang Yichun proceeded to leave. The woman, however, looked anxious and called out, "May I ask your name, so my brother can thank you personally?"
Unfortunately, Jiang Yichun walked away without even turning his head or responding to her question.
A sense of glee swelled in Bai Ruozhu. Even though she did not notice this change herself. As she and Xiaosi were about to leave, they were stopped by the woman.
"Madam, you know that gentleman, don’t you? He saved my life but didn’t leave his name. I can’t just leave without thanking him. Could you possibly tell me his name and address?" The woman looked earnestly at Bai Ruozhu, her voice filled with desperation.
Madam...?
Bai Ruozhu felt as if a horde of horses were galloping through her mind. Wasn’t she just holding a child? Was that enough reason to call her ’madam’ making her sound so old? She was probably younger than this woman!
"Didn’t you thank him already? He doesn’t like to leave his name behind after doing a good deed. Why force it?" Bai Ruozhu retorted, quite annoyed. ’Go to hell with your ’madam,’ you’re the one who should be called ’madam’!’
With that, Bai Ruozhu turned and walked away, leaving the woman chasing after her, "Did he forbid you from telling? If not, what’s the harm in telling me?" The woman sounded slightly coquettish.
"Yes, he forbade it." Bai Ruozhu replied irritably, "How could I know his name? All I know is that his surname is Jiang, and he forbade me saying, how could I, a ’madam,’ spill it?"
Feeling indignant, Bai Ruozhu quickly led Xiaosi away. After walking a considerable distance, and seeing that the woman was not following anymore, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"You weren’t scared, were you?" Bai Ruozhu asked Xiaosi, who was walking by her side.
Xiaosi shook his head, "I wasn’t scared." He puffed out his chest, showing a taste of manliness.
Bai Ruozhu smiled, "Our Xiaosi is the bravest."
The pair chatted and laughed as they headed home. Bai Ruozhu enthusiastically related the exciting event to Fang Guizhi. It seemed that the thrill got to her that she wasn’t in a hurry to take a nap. It was only when pushed by Fang Guizhi that she remembered to take a nap, doing so happily.
Waking from her nap, Bai Ruozhu went to the kitchen of the Xie Residence to discuss the ingredients needed for dinner. Then, she went to the stall to help with closing up. She then returned to the kitchen and prepared a large meal.
Dinner time came and Bai Ruozhu saw Du Zhongshu also eating with them. Slapping her forehead, she said, "Mister Du, after dinner, please wait a bit. I have something to give you."
