The visitor was an Inner Attendant, whom Bai Ruozhu remembered having seen by the Emperor’s side.

"Greetings to Young Master Ning and Lord Bai," the Inner Attendant bowed and then hastily said, "The Emperor has captured the person who previously committed crimes in the palace. Today, he even went to Cining Palace and almost succeeded."

Bai Ruozhu’s body tensed, "Who was it?"

"He calls himself Duanyan, claiming to be the National Master’s senior fellow disciple. The Emperor has already imprisoned him in the prison. His Majesty said it would be better if Young Master Ning personally conducted the interrogation," the Inner Attendant replied.

Ning Yu suddenly jumped up, his expression immediately becoming extremely nervous, losing the calmness he had before.

Bai Ruozhu looked at him in surprise. Duanyan? The National Master’s senior fellow disciple? It seemed the situation was not simple.

"Please tell His Majesty I will be there shortly," Ning Yu said before going inside to fetch some items. When he reappeared, he was holding a sword and a compass, and a gold crown was placed on his head.

Bai Ruozhu had seen Ning Yu many times but had never seen him dress so formally. She couldn’t help but ask, "What’s the deal with this Duanyan? Hasn’t he already been captured?"

Ning Yu’s brows were tightly furrowed, "Do you think the Sky Prison can hold Duanyan? Even at my master’s peak, he was wary of him."

"Then let’s hurry to the palace and see," Bai Ruozhu said, but then fretted over Dengdeng and decided to have Jianqi take him back to the Bai Residence first.

The two of them made their way to the palace gate, and on the way, Ning Yu started to talk about Duanyan.

The corners of Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched as she noticed Ning Yu referred to "we" not "I," suggesting that Duanyan was seeking revenge on all of the National Master’s disciples, even if she was only one in name.

"If he’s so formidable, why didn’t he just confront you directly instead of going to such lengths to ambush Diao Bin?" Bai Ruozhu asked, puzzled.

"That’s just his nature; on one hand, he holds grudges, and on the other, he’s extremely suspicious and cautious. He probably wanted to test my strength since in the past years, it was my master who dealt with him; I never made a move." Ning Yu said, showing a shade of embarrassment. Did his own strength need to be tested? He felt like he was about to bring shame to his master.

Bai Ruozhu felt some urgency upon hearing this, "Then you definitely can’t show yourself now. At least if he’s unsure of your strength, he won’t act rashly. Won’t you just be exposing yourself if you appear?"

Ning Yu’s face turned even more awkward, "It’s my fault for ending up like this, but even in my normal state, I’m far from his match. My talents are too far behind Master’s."

Seeing him so disheartened, Bai Ruozhu couldn’t bear it and softened her tone to persuade him, "Don’t go to the Sky Prison to see him later on. I’ll go take a look. You can take action if there’s an emergency."

The two headed straight for the Imperial Study Room. Tang Yin briefly explained the situation, then had Wang Shun take them to the Sky Prison. Ning Yu handed over the compass he had brought to Bai Ruozhu, saying, "Take this with you. This is Master’s compass. He will be somewhat wary when he sees it. Bai Ruozhu spoke up. She felt that Ning Yu’s analysis wasn’t without reason, but it seemed not entirely correct. She vaguely sensed that Duanyan wanted to test Ning Yu on one hand, and on the other hand, he was targeting Diao Bin.

Let’s not forget, there was another hidden faction wanting to stir up chaos from the shadows.
