Chapter 1433: Chapter 1434 Not So Good_1

Bai Yihong reached out to hold Little Dengdeng, but Little Dengdeng burst into a loud cry, tightly hugging his father’s neck and refusing to let go at any cost.

"I don’t want to be separated from mommy and daddy, I don’t want to go home!" he cried and shouted.

Little Dengdeng seldom cried or threw tantrums in front of others, but now he didn’t care about anything else; he just didn’t want to be separated from his parents.

Bai Ruozhu looked on with a heavy heart and patiently said, "Dengdeng, be good. Mommy and daddy have some official business to attend to, and we’ll be right back to stay with you, not going anywhere else."

"No! I want to be with you. What if the Emperor sends you away again?" Dengdeng cried even harder, his little body trembling with such force that it seemed he might hyperventilate.

Bai Ruozhu hurriedly soothed him, "It won’t happen, we’re really not leaving this time. Don’t you trust mommy?"

"I don’t care, I want to... be... with you." Dengdeng’s crying caused him to speak in fits and starts.

Bai Yihong watched beside them, his heart aching but feeling utterly helpless. He could only whisper words of consolation. The child was always so sensible, hardly needing to be comforted, and now that he did need it, Bai Yihong didn’t know how to proceed.

"Let it be, let’s bring him with us. I’ll explain to the Emperor," Jiang Yichun said. "We might as well take him to see the Empress Dowager too."

Bai Ruozhu shot him a reproachful look. He wasn’t helping with the child, but instead was spoiling him rotten. Their family really did nurture a spoiled son with an indulgent father.

Bai Yihong also felt sorry for the child and, seeing that Jiang Yichun said it was alright, spoke, "Then you should hurry, don’t delay the hour. I’ll go home first to send the news."

Bai Ruozhu then stopped Bai Yihong to introduce Qingyan and Zhanna, telling both to go back to the Bai Residence with Bai Yihong as there was no need for them to go through the trouble of entering the palace.

As for Master Hao Feng, Bai Ruozhu had already asked her what she wished to do, and she had insisted on accompanying Fen Wan into the palace, fearing that the Emperor and Empress Dowager of Danliang might harm Fen Wan.

After Bai Yihong took Qingyan and the others away, Bai Ruozhu then chided Jiang Yichun and his son, "You two..."

With tears turning to laughter, Jiang Yichun also began to smile. The two of them looked as if they had committed some mischievous deed together, both smug and slightly thrilled, especially when they saw the child’s mother get annoyed, they laughed even more heartily.

"Let’s hurry into the palace, do you wish to defy an imperial decree?" Bai Ruozhu scolded them.

Jiang Yichun’s laughter was especially hearty as he lifted Little Dengdeng onto the horse, seating his son in front of him. Little Dengdeng laughed merrily, his laughter as delightful as a bell, attracting the attention of many onlookers who found the child irresistibly adorable.

Though Bai Ruozhu kept a stern face, her eyes betrayed a smile.

Soon, the group arrived at the Imperial Palace, and having received the news, the Emperor had already dispatched Wang Shun to meet them at the Palace Gate.

"Lord Bai, Lady Bai, you must have had a hard journey," Wang Shun said sincerely, observing the signs of weariness they could not fully conceal. He then said to the palace guards, "The Emperor has decreed that Lord Jiang’s horse carriage may enter the palace directly."

The guards grew concerned, "But we need to inspect inside the carriage."

"How dare you!" Wang Shun produced the token, "Are you thinking of defying the Emperor’s orders?"

The guard who had spoken knelt down at once, "I dare not, I have been presumptuous."

Wang Shun gave Jiang Yichun a sign, gesturing them to drive the carriage through quickly.

Once the carriage had entered the Palace Gate, Wang Shun turned to Little Dengdeng with a smile and said, "So this is your family’s Little Dengdeng, isn’t it?"

Little Dengdeng smiled sweetly at him, saying, "Greetings, sir."

He may be small but his wiles are great, aware that all those entering the Palace were high officers, so he sweetly said, "Greetings, Officer." Bai Ruozhu heaved a sigh of relief; she was indeed worried that Little Dengdeng would call Wang Shun "Uncle," which would have been rather awkward.

"This little one sure has a sweet mouth. Here, this is a token of our first meeting for you from me. Go on, play with it." Wang Shun said as he stuffed a jade ring into Little Dengdeng’s hand.

Bai Ruozhu hurriedly declined, and explained, "My family originally thought I’d arrive in a couple of days, but this child was so anxious; he kept insisting on waiting for us at the City Gate every day. As a result, he spotted us as soon as we entered the City and then adamantly refused to let us go."

She was afraid Wang Shun would misunderstand that they had not first reported to the Palace, but instead had gone to see their relatives first, and even brought a child into the Palace, so she explained.

Wang Shun listened and laughed heartily, "The child hasn’t seen you for several months, he’s missed you. Make sure you spend plenty of time with him."

Bai Ruozhu heaved a sigh of relief and smiled, nodding in agreement.

Soon, the carriage arrived at Cining Palace; it seemed that the situation was very urgent, otherwise, they should have gone to the Emperor’s Imperial Study Room first.

At the entrance of Cining Palace, Nannies and maids had already come out to greet them. Hao Mu was so happy to see Bai Ruozhu, saying, "You’ve finally come back. It’s been many days since we’ve seen you, and we’ve really missed you."

Bai Ruozhu smiled and took Hao Mu’s hand, asking softly, "How is the Princess?"

Hao Mu’s eyelids drooped. "Ning Yu says the situation isn’t good."

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help speeding up her steps. What exactly was wrong, and why had it gotten worse?

The group entered the Main Hall, and Chu Hai followed as well. Only Hao Mu stayed in the horse carriage, watching the sleeping Fen Wan.

"Ruozhu, you’ve finally returned!" As soon as the Empress Dowager saw Bai Ruozhu, her eyes reddened. The worry of not seeing her for several days mingled with the excitement of seeing Princess Diao Bin’s condition improve.

The Emperor, sitting beside the Empress Dowager, also spoke, "Yichun, you’ve had a hard trip this time."

Bai Ruozhu realized that the Emperor this time said "you all," not just "you," and it seemed the Emperor had finally acknowledged her.

Jiang Yichun put Little Dengdeng on the ground and bowed to the Emperor and the Empress Dowager. Bai Ruozhu also hurried to do the same, and Little Dengdeng, upon seeing this, also copied them with an air of seriousness.

The Empress Dowager couldn’t help but laugh, but although there was a smile on her face, the depth of her eyes still held a persistent sorrow because of Princess Diao Bin’s condition.

"Have you brought the person?" the Emperor asked.

"She is right outside in the horse carriage. I am not sure about the arrangements for now. Fen Wan’s Master Hao Feng has also come; she wishes to stay close to Fen Wan at all times," Jiang Yichun answered.

The Emperor nodded, "I approve. We will settle them in the Side Hall of Cining Palace. Also, regarding Diao Bin’s condition, Ning Yu mentioned a method that involves using a drop of Fen Wan’s blood to temporarily improve Diao Bin’s condition. Having been informed of your arrival in Capital City, I have already sent for Ning Yu."

While they were speaking, a palace maid came to announce that young master Ning Yu had arrived.

Soon after, Ning Yu entered, still in his somewhat faded linen clothes. Bai Ruozhu, upon seeing him after many days, was about to salute him, but she froze; how had her senior brother become such a figure!

---

These last two days I have really been busy as a dog. I even said I would update early today, and I truly apologize to everyone for not managing that! Today I went to look at houses and finally found one I liked; then there was the contract signing and the deposit payment, which took up a good chunk of time. I didn’t even have dinner on time, let alone an update.

In these two months, selling a house in Shanghai and then buying one in Shenzhen, on top of pulling all-nighters to stockpile manuscripts across all channels, I, Mouka, am about to shed a layer of skin...
