Chapter 1401: Chapter 1403: To Each Their Own (Part 1)
Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but smile, "My childhood was quite dull. We lived in a small village in the northwest of Danliang Country, and the whole family was very poor. My grandmother always bossed my father around like an ox and constantly scolded my mother, until we separated and started our own household before we saw better days."
"Though we were poor, my parents were very good to us. My two older brothers also adored me. If there was only enough food for a few bites, my parents would go without eating to make sure the three of us had enough. If there was only one ’wowa’, my brothers would definitely let me have it." In fact, she was talking about the things that happened in her previous life. All these memories were deeply buried in her heart. She always envied her predecessor for having such a wonderful family, so she was more than willing to take over her life, to take good care of her family, and to treat them as her own blood.
"What’s a ’wowa’?" Yingtong asked, puzzled.
"It’s a kind of coarse grain food, very hard to bite into, but it can fill you up," Bai Ruozhu explained with a smile.
Yingtong tried to imagine it but couldn’t quite picture what it was, then said with a sigh, "You must have suffered a lot when you were young, so did you learn many things?"
"You could say that," Bai Ruozhu nodded. In fact, many of the things she learned were from her past life, but that was something she couldn’t reveal.
A look of determination flashed across Yingtong’s face as she muttered, "I’ve been too pampered, and as a result, I’ve accomplished nothing. Look where it’s gotten me."
"You are a princess. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters," Bai Ruozhu said with a smile. If she ever had a daughter, she would also wish for her to live a life that’s simple and joyful. But she would never allow her daughter to become a greenhouse flower.
Yingtong stopped talking and looked down, lost in thought.
Not long after Yingtong left, Bai Ruozhu also got up from the bed. She was pretending to be injured, but not internally. Lying there the whole time seemed a bit much.
She had a lounge chair brought out, and like Zhanna, she sat out in the yard to soak up the sun. But just as she closed her eyes, she heard someone enter the yard nearby, followed by the sound of Jianqi clashing with the intruder.
Pretending to be in pain, she twisted her head to look and found that Sangta had barged into Qingyou Hall and was now facing off with Jianqi and his men.
She felt somewhat annoyed. She got up and headed inside, wondering how she could have forgotten about that foreign clan prince who was still worried about her.
Seeing her moving towards the Room, Sangta called out loudly, "Lin Zhu, don’t go. Let me check to see if your injuries are severe?"
Without turning her head, Bai Ruozhu replied, "They’re not severe. I just lost too much blood and need to rest quietly. Please take your sparring with my subordinates outside, so as not to disturb me."
Jianqi’s sword suddenly thrust forward as he said coldly, "Did you hear that? The lady needs her rest!"
Sangta’s body twisted like an eel, dodging Jianqi’s blade, and then shouted toward Bai Ruozhu, "Then I’ll take my leave for today. I’ll come see you again tomorrow."
After saying that, he really stopped fighting with Jianqi and his men. With a swoosh, he leaped onto the Wall and ran off in a trail of smoke.
When Jiang Yichun returned to Qingyou Hall, he naturally heard about the incident. Gnashing his teeth, he said, "I won’t go anywhere tomorrow. I will wait for him."
Bai Ruozhu, massaging her temples with a headache, said, "Tomorrow, please give him this box of scar-removing ointment for me. Yingtong gave it to me privately; it’s not something I made. Giving it to him will also stop me from feeling guilty."
Jiang Yichun, displeased, said, "There’s no reason for you to feel guilty. If he’s injured, it’s because his skills were inferior."
Upon mentioning this, Bai Ruozhu thought of Chiyou, who had been bitten by Furball, and asked, "Do you think Chiyou will die from my poisonous insect poison?"
"I doubt he will die that easily. He has poison masters by his side; there might be more than one. There’s a chance they could come up with a way to cure the poison. Besides, Furball is not that particularly malicious kind of Poisonous Insect," Jiang Yichun said.
Bai Ruozhu agreed with this, as Furball was more inclined to preserve its life, so its poisonous insect poison wasn’t of the deadly sort.
In the blink of an eye, the next day arrived, and as expected, the Sangta Prince came again, but Jiang Yichun did not fight him this time, instead tossing him a box of ointment.
"My wife doesn’t like owing favors," he said, "so she had me find this ointment for you. Use it well and don’t deliberately sport a scarred face to gain sympathy, as if afraid that others won’t remember you were slashed."
Sure enough, the Sangta Prince threw the ointment back, "I don’t want it. What’s a scar for a man? I’ll tell her myself that I don’t need this stuff."
But Jiang Yichun blocked him, sneering, "Are you saying you’re keeping that scar as a reminder to her that you once saved her? If you have no such intention, get rid of that scar quickly. What kind of ability is it to seek a woman’s sympathy and pity with it?"
After speaking, he tossed the ointment back to the Sangta Prince, whose face was already black as thunder, "Fine, I’ll use it, but I want to see her now."
"In your dreams! Get lost!" Jiang Yichun said without any courtesy.
As the two were about to come to blows again, Bai Ruozhu was truly fed up and shouted from inside, "Can’t you let a person recover in peace? I want to sleep!"
The others, including Muyu, couldn’t help but shrink their necks, as the lady’s lion’s roar could shake the eaves thrice over.
The Sangta Prince, already humiliated by Jiang Yichun and now roared at by Bai Ruozhu, looked even worse as he said toward Bai Ruozhu’s room, "Then you rest well, I’m leaving."
This time he didn’t mention when he would return, which seemed to indicate he was going to lay low, and Bai Ruozhu inside the room sighed in great relief.
With a gloomy face, the Sangta Prince left the royal palace, and before he reached the embassy, was stopped by a streak of red clothing.
"How come the Sangta Prince has visited Madam Bai in the palace?" Honglian’s voice was somewhat cheerful, especially emphasizing the name "Madam Bai" quite heavily.
"Why isn’t the Saintess looking after her dear father instead of running here?" The Sangta Prince retorted ungraciously.
Honglian’s face changed slightly, but she quickly smiled again, "The Sangta Prince seems to be in a bad mood, don’t you want to talk to me?"
"I don’t!" The Sangta Prince said decisively.
"Don’t forget the task the Barbarian Royal Family gave you. Without cooperating with the Holy Hall, how can you find that method?" Honglian lowered her voice, drawing much closer to the Sangta Prince.
The Sangta Prince moved away in disgust but still invited Honglian into the room to talk.
"You are now homeless dogs. Do you still think you can negotiate terms with me?" The Sangta Prince did not even offer tea, showing utmost scorn.
Suppressing the rage in her heart, Honglian said, "This matter is not about our status in the Holy Hall; only I can fulfill your wishes."
"You talk so prettily, but don’t you want to find out how the Barbarian Clan prolongs the lives of beast pets? Everyone is just after what they need," scoffed the Sangta Prince.
"Well said, each after what they need. What you want is Lin Zhu. What if I bring her right to your doorstep?" Honglian smiled, her bright red lips curling up, as if stained red by fresh blood, alluring and bizarre.
