Chapter 1393: Chapter 1395 Life Won’t Last Long_1
Master Hao Feng’s pupils shrank suddenly upon seeing her actions, and a sorrowful emotion surfaced in his eyes.
In these past days, he had witnessed Bai Ruozhu’s capabilities—the "miracles" she could create, things he was completely incapable of. Therefore, hope finally sparked in his heart; perhaps this woman from Danliang Country could save Fen Wan?
But seeing Bai Ruozhu’s reaction now, his heart sank.
Bai Ruozhu withdrew her hand and examined Fen Wan again. Fen Wan’s insides were severely hollowed out; had it not been for Master Hao Feng’s efforts to sustain her life force, she would no longer be alive.
"The situation is much more serious than I had imagined. At this rate, she has at most one month left to live," Bai Ruozhu said. In her previous life, she was a doctor, and she knew she had to tell the family the worst-case scenario truthfully.
Chu Hai listened without much agitation—it seemed Master Hao Feng had already informed him, which is probably why his eyes were red.
"I can only say I’ll try, but I can’t guarantee a cure, and even if I can detoxify her, she might still suffer some complications," Bai Ruozhu said gravely.
"What kind of complications?" Chu Hai asked anxiously.
Bai Ruozhu gently shook her head, "I can’t make a definitive judgment right now. The poison has been in her system for too long, and it’s so virulent that if it weren’t for Master Hao Feng, surviving a month would be difficult for anyone else. Let’s put it this way, she might become permanently blind or paralyzed. We can only observe and see in the later stages. I will do my utmost to save her."
Her words were not merely courteous. To save Fen Wan, she had made promises to both Chu Hai and Diao Yao, as well as to Diao Bin and the Empress Dowager, so she would certainly try her best.
"Okay, I trust you. Go ahead with the treatment, and tell me whatever medicinal materials you need," Master Hao Feng said.
Bai Ruozhu didn’t stand on ceremony and asked Chu Hai for pen and paper. She quickly wrote down some medicinal materials, specifically noting which ones were needed in large quantities.
She had previously taken many kinds of medicinal materials from the monarch’s storeroom, but to avoid suspicion, she had only taken seeds or small amounts of each, which were nowhere near enough for Fen Wan’s detoxification.
Seeing the medicinal materials she wrote, Master Hao Feng sometimes showed a look of agreement, sometimes one of confusion, and at other times a sudden realization, followed by a wish to smack himself on the head for not having thought of them himself.
Both being professionals, many things didn’t need much explanation, making things much easier for Bai Ruozhu.
While Master Hao Feng went to seek the National Master for the medicinal materials, Bai Ruozhu said to Chu Hai, "You know my rules: I can’t have interruptions while treating your mother. You and Achun should go outside for a while."
As she spoke, she made a subtle gesture to Jiang Yichun, who nodded quietly in understanding.
Now that she had someone to keep watch, things were more convenient for her, and she no longer felt so anxious as before.
She applied needles to seal several of Fen Wan’s acupuncture points and her senses, then with a thought, she took Fen Wan into the Space.
She helped Fen Wan strip off her clothes. Since Fen Wan was unconscious and though she was now as light as a feather, it still took quite an effort.
"Next time I must enter here while doing the Ancient steaming method. Taking clothes off and putting them on is such a hassle," she muttered to herself while wiping the sweat from her forehead.
If Fen Wan’s condition hadn’t been so dire, she wouldn’t have wanted to use the Space right away, but she was afraid Fen Wan wouldn’t last until the Ancient steaming method could be applied, and Fen Wan’s body couldn’t withstand it in her current state anyway.
Xiaohei came over, looking curiously at her and then at the naked Fen Wan, his eyes filled with bewilderment.
Bai Ruozhu suddenly realized that Xiaohei was a male and hurriedly said, "Xiaohei can’t peek, go to the pond and fetch two fish, your sister will grill them for you right away."
As soon as Xiaohei heard that Bai Ruozhu would grill fish for it, it immediately went to the pond in high spirits. Its injuries had mostly healed, and even Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but envy its recovery ability.
Bai Ruozhu then propped Fen Wan on the edge of the pond, making sure there wasn’t a problem, that her hair wouldn’t get wet, and only then did she go to grill fish for Xiaohei. She lit a fire, and soon the delicious aroma of the fish wafted through the air. Xiaohei, excited, hopped and jumped around beside her, his pair of black eyes fixed on the grilled fish she was making, his mouth watering.
"It’s almost ready, but it will be very hot, so be careful," Bai Ruozhu coaxed, like one would with a child, flipping the fish over. She didn’t sprinkle any condiments on it, just handed it directly to Xiaohei.
She knew dogs couldn’t handle human seasonings well, especially things like salt and sugar, and since Xiaohei was a leopard, she figured its aversions were probably similar to those of a dog.
Xiaohei grabbed the fish and almost swallowed it down in one bite. Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched, and she had originally intended to season the other fish but decided not to bother and let Xiaohei have it all.
Despite Xiaohei’s rough eating, it was quite adept at picking out fish bones, and in no time, it spat out a cleanly picked long fishbone to the side, which Bai Ruozhu picked up and threw back into the pond.
Seeing Xiaohei quickly finish off two grilled fish, Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched as she said, "How about I bring you two chickens later? Wait a few days until you’re nimble again, and your sister will let you go hunting."
Xiaohei gave a low growl, indicating his agreement.
Feeling it was about time, Bai Ruozhu lifted Fen Wan out of the hot spring, dried her off, helped her get dressed again, and then exited the space, placing Fen Wan back on the bed.
She could still hear Jiang Yichun and Chu Hai talking outside; she sighed in relief and, after another check, she pushed the room door open and went out.
"Chu Hai, you and Master Hao Feng need to keep a close watch tonight. Your mother’s body is full of residual poison. After the first treatment, she might directly expel obvious poison slag, and you might need to help her wipe it off to avoid clogging the pores, preventing the rest of the poison from being expelled," Bai Ruozhu told Chu Hai.
Normally, it would be best for a maid to watch over this. Chu Hai and Hao Feng were both injured, but Fen Wan had a special status and it wasn’t convenient for others to see her.
Chu Hai nodded vigorously, "Thank you, Ruozhu."
Bai Ruozhu was tired herself. She smiled at him and said, "Go ahead, I’m going back to rest."
Jiang Yichun accompanied her back to the room but didn’t speak. Bai Ruozhu found it strange and turned her head to ask, "What’s the matter?"
"Will Chu Hai’s mother also need to use the ancient steaming method later?" Jiang Yichun asked.
Bai Ruozhu blinked at him, "Yes, I just snuck someone into the Spatial Hot Spring for a soak, and you know the wonders of that place."
Jiang Yihong’s face darkened, as if heavy clouds had gathered.
"Oh? So you used the same method for detoxifying Chu Hai before?" Jiang Yichun’s voice carried a dangerous tone.
Bai Ruozhu cursed inwardly, she had forgotten about that detail; every time Chu Hai used the ancient steaming method, he was naked except for wearing large underwear, which in the eyes of the ancient people, was already more than they should see.
Originally, Chu Hai’s ancient steaming method was done in a wooden tub, and she couldn’t see anything, but now letting Achun know she took someone to the Spatial Hot Spring to soak...
