Chapter 1359: Chapter 1361: Why not just give in to me?_1
Originally, Bai Ruozhu subconsciously thought that it was a traitor who had pushed her, but she soon realized it wasn’t the people around her. It seemed like something had hit her, then slid away from wherever it came from.
Her hearing was excellent. In the beginning, amidst the chaos, she hadn’t caught where it came from, but after being hit, she indeed captured the sound.
However, because of this collision, she ended up a few steps away from Jiang Yichun, surrounded by thick mist. She turned around and couldn’t see Jiang Yichun’s figure at all.
"Achun, I don’t know what hit me," she called out.
But strangely, no one answered her, and even as she pricked up her ears to listen, there was not a sound from anyone else!
How could this be possible? She was only pushed a few steps away; even if they were silent, there should at least be breathing sounds, and in the midst of combat, how could Jiang Yichun not be giving orders?
She felt the situation was eerie and carefully recalled the direction she had come from, moving a couple of steps back to where she had been before the collision, taking care to match the size of her prior steps.
"Achun, are you here?" she asked tentatively, reaching out her hand to feel around, but sadly, all she could touch was the air; there was no one there, nor did anyone respond to her.
How could this be? Had they all just vanished into thin air in the blink of an eye, leaving her alone here? But it was clear that it was she who had been pushed away!
Could it be that she was the one who had disappeared, and this was not the place where they had originally stood?
She turned and looked all around, but it was all in vain; she could see nothing through the foggy haze.
However, Bai Ruozhu quickly calmed down. Even though she had not been in the Astrology Building long and hadn’t learned much, she had read some books and soon thought that perhaps the Esoteric Gossip Array was the ghost behind this.
With the surroundings shrouded in a mist that made it impossible to see, and having become separated from her companions, it was very likely a Maze or a Bewildering Array, but her knowledge was limited to this much, and she did not know how to break it.
She had very little research on arrays, so even though she couldn’t see Achun, she should still be able to hear them, she thought.
But this was not the time to think too much about these things. The enemy had intentionally separated her from Jiang Yichun or, to put it another way, had intentionally disrupted their group. Perhaps she wasn’t the only one isolated, and she might be the weakest in the team; she had to figure out how to protect herself!
The safest action would be to take refuge in her Space, she thought, but when she tried, she found herself still standing on the spot. How could this be? She couldn’t enter her Space!
She was absolutely certain there wasn’t an issue with her Space, nor was it possible that the Space had upgraded again. There was only one possibility, that something here was preventing her from entering her Space!
Sudden fear seized Bai Ruozhu’s heart. She had always believed that with her Space, she could escape if she couldn’t fight, never considering something could restrain her Space. If so, could others discover her Space?
In such an environment where nothing was visible and not even a slight sound could be heard, it posed a great challenge to one’s psyche, especially when you didn’t know from which direction someone might suddenly appear and attack.
Fortunately, she was a calm person. She tried again to retrieve something from her Space, and this time, she succeeded. She took out a black stone, held it in her palm, and silently called for Xiaohei.
Xiaohei had been with her all along the way, only hiding in the jungle to avoid startling others. When they camped, Xiaohei would hunt in the mountains.
Indeed, a faint sound soon emerged. Xiaohei’s low growl rose beside her. She couldn’t see it, but she could feel its presence and reached out to touch Xiaohei’s back, promptly mounting it.
"Xiaohei, take me out!" Bai Ruozhu whispered.
Xiaohei carried her and ran quickly, but after half a day, the pair were still in the fog, unable to see anything.
At that point, Bai Ruozhu realized something was off. Although Xiaohei was running in a straight line, it felt like they were being controlled and made to run in circles; such was the power of an array formation.
"Xiaohei, stop, don’t run anymore," Bai Ruozhu called out to the black panther to stop. She flipped off its back and began to rapidly analyze the situation in her mind.
First, since Xiaohei was able to find her, it indicated that one could see into the array formation from the outside and easily locate someone at a specific point within it.
Second, even though Xiaohei could enter and follow the scent back, it couldn’t find its way out. That is to say, once inside an array, one is controlled, and without breaking it, those inside cannot leave!
That also meant if reinforcements arrived, they might be able to break the array from the outside. With this thought, she felt somewhat relieved. Achun and the others had signal flares; they must have sent for help at the first opportunity.
She whispered orders for Xiaohei to stay put, sprinkled some drug powder around since Xiaohei was not immune to it like she was, and groped to administer the antidote to Xiaohei. Then, she took a sharp dagger into her hand.
At that moment, Xiaohei growled lowly, alerting her to someone’s approach.
"Who’s there?" she asked in a stern voice, still harboring a sliver of hope that it might be one of her own coming to find her.
But then a strong gust of wind assaulted her, and a figure charged directly towards her. Xiaohei leaped forward, blocking the assailant’s attack.
"Interesting, raising a leopard isn’t simple," the man’s voice teased, filled with mockery.
Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes; she remembered this voice—it was that of the man wearing a mask, the one called Chiyou!
The fog seemed to thin a bit, allowing her to see a vague silhouette, and indeed, there was that eerie mask.
Xiaohei roared and lunged at Chiyou, baring its teeth as if it longed to tear him to pieces, but with a flick of his wrist, Chiyou sent Xiaohei flying away.
"A lowly beast like you dares to be arrogant in my presence?" Chiyou let out a mocking laugh.
Seeing Xiaohei thrown and seemingly hurt, Bai Ruozhu was instantly enraged and, with the dagger in hand, charged at Chiyou.
Chiyou chuckled again, and with a light squeeze, he caught her wrist holding the dagger. With a slight effort, he snatched the dagger away.
"Not a bad face. Tell me, would it still look as good if it were scarred?" Chiyou said as he let go of Bai Ruozhu’s wrist and flipped his hand, suddenly gripping her chin.
Bai Ruozhu’s other hand had already released the poison, but Chiyou laughed again and said, "Stop wasting your time; I am immune to a hundred poisons."
As they spoke, the dagger that Chiyou had taken from Bai Ruozhu’s hand inched towards her face, threatening to pierce her delicate skin.
Chiyou, a man of lascivious nature, clicked his tongue twice in admiration, "Such a beautiful skin, it would be a shame to ruin. Why don’t you surrender to me instead?"
