Chapter 1259: Chapter 1261: The Greatest Potential_1

"Xiuxiu" had not a hint of panic on his face, nor even a trace of dejection befitting a defeated foe. Opening his mouth toward Jiang Yichun, a flying insect emerged from his lips.

The bug was not large, entirely black, and at first glance, one might mistake it for a fly. However, Bai Ruozhu, with her keen eyesight, immediately noticed the gold on the insect’s body and realized it must be the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect he had mentioned.

The Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect, as its name suggested and from "Xiuxiu’s" earlier words, allowed him to transform into anyone the insect had consumed—it was truly diabolical.

Jiang Yichun swiftly drew his sword to strike at the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect. His sword carried Sword Qi, his moves sharp and fierce, but the insect was exceedingly fast and seemed highly intelligent. It flew straight up into the sky, out of Jiang Yichun’s reach, making it impossible for him to harm it.

At that moment, it spat out some Qi toward the ground below—a sight invisible to Bai Ruozhu’s naked eye. But a sudden tightness gripped her heart, and a sense of crisis surfaced. She quickly utilized her light-body martial arts and rushed over to pull Jiang Yichun aside. Despite her quick action, Jiang Yichun’s clothes, where he had just stood, were corroded as if doused with sulfuric acid, and the corrosion spread upward.

Jiang Yichun reacted quickly, cutting away the affected part of his clothing with his sword, narrowly escaping the peril. Once the piece of fabric touched the ground, it quickly turned to ash—not burned, but poisoned away, showing the terrifying power of the poison.

"Don’t act rashly; that Poisonous Insect is not easy to deal with," Bai Ruozhu whispered lowly. A wave of fear still washed over her—if she had hesitated even a moment longer or lacked that intuition, Jiang Yichun might have already fallen prey to the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect’s venom and been in mortal danger.

She didn’t dare to imagine, knowing she couldn’t find an antidote in such short time.

The thought that she had almost lost him caused her grip on his arm to tighten even more. She had always thought his martial arts were powerful and hadn’t been too worried even just now, but she had truly been negligent.

Seeing her pale face, Jiang Yichun knew she was frightened, and a flicker of guilt passed through his eyes. "I will be more careful in the future," he promised.

Bai Ruozhu nodded. There was no time for further discussion. She secretly released Xiaomao, letting it confront the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect, though she wasn’t certain whether Xiaomao was a match for it.

It seemed that Xiaomao, aside from protecting her and devouring other Poisonous Insects, had no special abilities—unlike the Gu Master impersonating Xiuxiu, who could unleash a plague and morph into others.

Bai Ruozhu felt uncertain and worried about Xiaomao’s safety, sweat breaking out in her palms.

Jiang Yichun then signaled to Chencheng, instructing him to take the patients away from there first. The situation was suddenly difficult to control; it was better to prevent unnecessary casualties.

Xiaomao might look simple and cute, but it faced the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect without fear. Soon, both insects were caught up in a fierce battle. Despite lacking wings, Xiaomao could soar into the sky to attack the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect, which showered it with poison mist in response. Yet Xiaomao dodged repeatedly.

As the two insects fought fiercely, Bai Ruozhu’s eyes darted about. Suddenly, she produced a dagger and appeared behind "Xiuxiu", placing the blade at his throat.

"Don’t move, or I’ll cut your throat the moment I see another insect!" she warned coldly, applying slight pressure. The sharp dagger made a small cut on "Xiuxiu’s" neck, and black blood began to flow.

"Despicable! To launch a sneak attack during a Gu Master’s duel and break the industry’s rules, you won’t be let off easily in the future!" the Gu Master said furiously.

Bai Ruozhu scoffed in response, "I’m not a Gu Master, so I don’t follow your rules. Cut the nonsense—who sent you? Why create a plague in Guangqi Town?"

"Weren’t you the ones who wanted to fake a plague? I just helped turn your pretense into reality. Shouldn’t you be thanking me?" the Gu Master said, his tone mocking and strange.

Bai Ruozhu raised her hand and stabbed a dagger into his shoulder, then quickly pulled it out and pressed it against his neck again, "If you don’t come clean, next time it won’t be something as simple as the shoulder."

The Poisonous Insect master had not expected Bai Ruozhu to be so ruthless. The pain turned his face a few shades paler, and given he was already poisoned, his condition was dire.

"How many are you in total? Besides creating the plague in Guangqi Town, what else do you plan?" Bai Ruozhu interrogated.

"Just the two of us, believe it or not, it’s up to you. With just a flick of my fingers, a whole town could die. She was merely running errands for me; there’s absolutely no need for extra help," the Poisonous Insect master said.

"Then why kill Old Zhang?"

The Poisonous Insect master sneered, "Can’t you guess? He suspected me, so naturally, he couldn’t be left alive."

"Hmph, then back to the first question, who sent you? To know our plans and movements, you must be no ordinary person," Bai Ruozhu said as she pressed her hand down again, and another cut appeared on the Poisonous Insect master’s neck.

Seeing its master injured, the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect, which was engaged in an inseparable battle with Furball, grew anxious and wanted to rush forward, but Furball entangled it, preventing it from getting close. In its urgency, its wings beat faster, and its eyes slowly turned blood-red, increasing its speed noticeably.

This sudden change allowed the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect to break free from Furball’s restraint and it suddenly charged towards Bai Ruozhu. Jiang Yichun, who stood by Bai Ruozhu’s side, felt an indescribable surge of sorrow as he saw the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect zooming like lightning.

Just a puff of poisonous fog from the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect could be lethal. If it managed to bite, fear was that there might be no chance for treatment.

He couldn’t let anything happen to his Ruozhu, not even if it meant he had to suffer. Ruozhu must be safe!

In that instant, an astonishing potential erupted from his body. The Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect appeared magnified in his eyes. His sword flashed with the speed of lightning, accurate and ruthless. And in a flash, the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect was cleaved into two halves, falling to the ground.

In agony, the Poisonous Insect master convulsed. He looked at Jiang Yichun in disbelief and said, "Impossible, no one could harm the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect, who are you, exactly?"

Although bisected, the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect refused to die and struggled desperately to rejoin. Seeing the insect’s persistence, Bai Ruozhu quickly shouted, "Furball, quick!"

Furball had already rushed forward, taking a big bite out of one half of the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect. In the blink of an eye, half of it was gone, and shortly thereafter, Furball swallowed the other half.

The Poisonous Insect master screamed in pain. His most powerful Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect, his life-force insect, was dead, and he was experiencing severe backlash. He had no hope of survival!

Bai Ruozhu quickly pulled Jiang Yichun back, feeling a tinge of regret for not finding out who was behind all this, but given the emergency situation, she would choose their lives over answers again.

The Poisonous Insect master’s body continued to disintegrate bit by bit, reminiscent of how the poisonous fog from the Thousand Illusion Poisonous Insect had dissolved half of Jiang Yichun’s robe; but that was fabric, and this was flesh. Bai Ruozhu didn’t have time to dwell on this before the Poisonous Insect master turned to a pile of ashes.

"Deserved it!" she cursed, and turned her head to look at Jiang Yichun, only to find him standing motionless with his eyes closed, unresponsive to everything that was happening around him!
