Chapter 1182: Chapter 1184 Almost Strangled to Death_1
Bai Ruozhu heard that Jiang Yichun had disappeared and asked anxiously, "Did you see how he left?"
The Shadow Guard shook his head, "This subordinate did not see; it was as if Lord Jiang disappeared into thin air."
Not reassured, Bai Ruozhu feared Jiang Yichun was still hiding in the Yard, so she took people to search the area again. While she was cautiously looking around, suddenly a man in black wearing a Ghost Mask dropped from the sky. A host of ghostly subordinates emerged from behind him and attacked Bai Ruozhu and her group.
Upon seeing the Ghost Masked man, Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but think of the man in the Imperial Palace who had nearly claimed her life. However, after a closer look, she saw that the Ghost Mask worn by the man before her was different from the one in the Palace, and the figure underneath was taller and even the aura more bizarre.
But stature meant nothing. With things like the Bone Shrinking Skill, even the tall Zhou Jue could shrink into a petite woman to gain a man’s pity, let alone a slight difference in build.
Bai Ruozhu retreated cautiously to the back. The man wearing the Ghost Mask kept staring at her, his eyes hidden behind the mask seemingly mocking, as if to say that Bai Ruozhu was prey he could slay at any moment.
His subordinates moved erratically, all concealed within black clothing, truly resembling ghostly shadows, making one feel extremely uncomfortable.
These "ghost shadows" clashed with the Shadow Guards and actually gained a slight upper hand. This shocked and angered Lü, while Bai Ruozhu checked her surroundings to confirm Jiang Yichun was really not there, then urgently signaled to Lü and the others to retreat immediately.
The enemy was hidden; we were exposed. The urgent task was to find Jiang Yichun as quickly as possible.
Jianqi and others protected Bai Ruozhu as they left, but suddenly the tall man’s figure flashed, attacking Bai Ruozhu. Jianqi raised his sword to intercept, but only sliced off a corner of the man’s cape—his figure eerily dodged Jianqi’s sword and rushed in front of Bai Ruozhu.
In an instant, Bai Ruozhu’s throat was seized by the man, and she might have stopped breathing the next second.
Bai Ruozhu was greatly alarmed and hurriedly commanded Furball to attack, only to find out that Furball hadn’t moved and its feedback said it couldn’t attack again within five days after biting the Ghost Doctor.
Bai Ruozhu swore indignantly in her heart, thinking why on earth didn’t you say so earlier. But Furball was innocent; previously its master never allowed it to bite people. Who knew there would be a need to bite so soon again.
The next second, Bai Ruozhu was lifted off her feet. The tall man scoffed coldly at Lü and the others, "Stop, unless you want me to snap her neck."
Bai Ruozhu’s gauze cap rolled off onto the ground, exposing her true face. The tall man’s pupils contracted slightly, and he sneered, "Turns out to be a beautiful woman with poison, what a shame."
Bai Ruozhu, with her breathing becoming difficult, felt her face turn red. She lifted her hand and clawed at the man’s hand, saying with effort, "You can kill me if you wish, but it’s a pity that you’ve been poisoned with my unique Reincarnation Poison. No one can cure it. One life for another, to me that’s a gain."
A dangerous glint shot from the man’s eyes as he gripped Bai Ruozhu’s hand even tighter, "I hate most being threatened in my life!"
Bai Ruozhu felt like she was about to suffocate, her mind going blank. She bit down hard on her teeth and said, "Up to you... kill... "
"Let her go, if you have any demands, you can make them!" Lü shouted anxiously from the side.
Jianqi and Chenfeng circled to the back, readying a sneak attack, but unexpectedly the man holding Bai Ruozhu’s neck suddenly turned around and said to them, "Stop playing tricks with me, get lost!"
Fearing he might actually kill Bai Ruozhu, Jianqi and Chenfeng had no choice but to back away.
Just as Bai Ruozhu was on the verge of losing consciousness, the force around her neck finally eased. She began coughing violently, tears streaming out not only from the coughing fit but even more so from the pain and terror, making her appearance exceedingly wretched.
She had almost died, had nearly missed seeing her beloved son, her lover, and her relatives—it had been that close...
"Who... who exactly are you?" Bai Ruozhu asked with difficulty, her voice raspy as if it were a rusty saw, obviating the need for a voice-altering poison.
"The more you know, the faster you die," the man said, now gripping one of Bai Ruozhu’s shoulders. "Tell me, what poison have you used on me?"
Bai Ruozhu was still coughing, though it had subsided somewhat. "I hid a kind of poison in my fingernail, called Reincarnation."
"Nonsense. How could you possibly have Reincarnation?" The tall man became suddenly agitated, his voice rising several notches. Bai Ruozhu sensed something different in his tone.
This man knew about Reincarnation, but why was he so sure that she couldn’t have it? Did that mean he knew who should possess Reincarnation?
After pondering for a moment, Bai Ruozhu replied, "I saved someone who had been poisoned with Reincarnation. Just a bit of his blood was needed to extract Reincarnation. Although it’s not as potent as the real Reincarnation, it’s still enough to make life worse than death."
The tall man showed a look of disdain, seemingly scornful of her words and lost the caution he had before. Bai Ruozhu’s heart tightened. Could it be that he knew how to cure the Reincarnation Poison, and so he was no longer afraid of her threat?
Before she could think further, her shoulder suddenly felt heavy, and the anticipated pain washed over her. Even though she was prepared, it hurt so much that she gasped sharply.
"Jianqi!" She managed to roll over with her dislocated arm, tumbling clumsily on the spot. Jianqi and his companions had been ready, immediately shielding her from further attack.
The tall man was momentarily stunned, and by the time he collected himself, Bai Ruozhu was already protected by Jianqi and his group, making it not easy for him to recapture her.
Bai Ruozhu, dripping with a fine sheen of sweat from the pain, had dislocated her own shoulder to break free from the tall man’s grip, a painful move, to be sure, but it had saved her life.
Looking at it that way, though it was painful, it was worth it.
"I underestimated you. A brave person would amputate their own limb, and even dislocating your shoulder is not a problem for you," the tall man remarked with a mocking tone. "But next time, you won’t be so lucky."
Bai Ruozhu, sweating profusely, was quickly escorted away by Jianqi and the others, not engaging further with the tall man. By the time they reached a safe place, Bai Ruozhu had fainted from the pain.
"I didn’t expect her to be so ruthless to herself. I thought only we men could be that harsh. I guess I have to admit I’m impressed," Lü said, glancing at the unconscious Bai Ruozhu, speaking softly to Jianqi.
"The master can assess pros and cons clearly. She is often so calm that it is frightening, so what she did isn’t surprising," Jianqi said as he called to Chenfeng to help move Bai Ruozhu into the house. Then, lifting her arm, he suddenly exerted force...
Ah... Bai Ruozhu let out a scream, opened her eyes to find her shoulder was set back in place, and glared furiously at Jianqi. "Couldn’t you give me a heads up? At least I wouldn’t have screamed like a pig being slaughtered."
"You were passed out. It’s not good to set a bone after you wake up," Jianqi said coolly.
Bai Ruozhu broke out in a cold sweat, tried to sit up, and then collapsed back down, fainting once again.
