A Wife for the Billionaire -
Chapter 85: RICHARD
Chapter 85: RICHARD
In exactly two minutes, another notification chimed on my laptop. Without wasting time, I clicked on it and it read,
"Lucy Train
5’ 10
Single mother
Alex - son’s name
Nurse at Raleigh Hospital & Ward
Working hours..."
I scrolled down to her hours and as fate may have it, she was working an evening shift.
Without wasting time, I left the office. I didn’t even need to call Lanke to come pick my bag. I left the damn thing because there was a chance I might return before retiring for the day.
And besides, this wasn’t going to take
long. I just need to put the bitch in her place.
The elevator was packed when I reached the metal doors and the occupants would have been expected to vacate had the doors not been closing.
I stood waiting for the metal doors to come up again and then I saw Sofia dashing down the stairs. The urgency of it felt like she was in trouble and though I hated the bitch, I would be blamed if anything happened to her as the CEO.
So, I rushed to the stairs she disappeared to, only to see the bitch jumping down the stairs like a madwoman.
I watched her tackle the stairs like her skirt wasn’t restricting and like an athlete.
At a point, she started sliding down the
rails. I wondered what she was running to, or why she was in such a haste? She had said that she needed to be home by 4pm and it was barely 6 minutes past the allocated time.
I backed away from the rail as she disappeared from my view.
"That girl is really mad" I thought as I made my way back to the elevator.
The metal compartments were yet to arrive, forcing me to wait.
Aware that those on the other levels and floors were using the elevators, I made my way back to my office.
Logging into the company’s security system, I watched Sofia from the CCTV cameras.
She was sliding down what must’ve been the 43rd floor when I located her on the
camera installed to oversee the stairs.
She wasn’t showing any signs of stopping, she ran like someone who was under the influence of something.
But then on the 38th floor, her strength failed her. I watched as she tried to get her breathing under control. I saw her with the Wellington staff, Amira, who had given her water, but her ungrateful ass had pushed Amira away just for trying to get her to take a beat.
She was almost about to slide down the rails when she heard the elevator dinged from behind her, like the flash of lightning in the sky, Sofia dashed for the elevator.
I stopped watching her then. I returned to the elevator which was yet to arrive.
It took five minutes before I was able to board the elevator.
By the time I reached the lobby, Sofia was gone.
Lanke was waiting for me at the entrance, and without wasting time, we drove off.
Raleigh Hospital & Ward was located at Central Avenue near Central Park, on the west side of town. It was located near my Alma mater, Skyline Central High School.
It was a twenty minute drive.
While Lanke sped to our destination, I tried to think of Anna’s terms, only to discover that I didn’t know much about them.
I hadn’t been listening when Sofia was talking about them.
We arrived at our destination, Lanke packed the car and we alighted from the car.
I could make up the flags of my former school. About ten plots down and I would stand in front of it. There were a lot of memories entwined with that building, but the one that was most pressing was Mel.
Shaking it off, I approached the glass doors of the hospital. Its modern architecture and sleek design was meant to provide a welcoming and calming atmosphere for patients and visitors alike. But I wasn’t here for a peaceful atmosphere, I was here to put a bitch in her place.
The walls were painted white and fluorescent lights buzzed overhead on white ceilings. Walking past the pathetic cluster of people at the reception with their slack teary faces, hollow
expressions and quivering bodies. A couple huddled close, the man holding his wife while she cried, their child must be in one of those wards. A family of four, two guys within the age bracket of 30 - 35 stood flanking two ladies within 25 - 29 who sat hugging their aged mother.
The woman with grey hair was crying and repeating the words,
"Paul, you can’t leave me now. You can’t. We promised each other till death do us apart, if you are going to leave me then take me with you"
Her daughters shushed her, telling her sternly not to talk like that.
"Mama, you can’t talk like that, Papa is not dead, he will make it and you are not going anywhere, please" the younger ones at her right said.
For a moment, my heart went out to them, to the woman who despite how many years she had spent with her husband, Paul. She still loved him, such cases of love were rare.
Forcing myself to look away, I approached the nurses at the reception desk. There were four of them, looking immaculate in their white uniforms. To the one at the far right, the prettiest of them all, I said,
"Hello Nurse..." glancing at her badge, I finished, "Sarah"
"Hello Sir, Welcome to Raleigh Hospital & Ward, what can we do for you?" She chipped.
"I’m here to see a certain employee, Nurse Lucy... Lucy Train, if you don’t mind"
"Sir, are you family and is what you wish to tell her an emergency, because if it’s not, I will have to ask you to leave or wait till her shift is over because we frown upon visitations during an employee’s working hours"
I had expected this, but it’s nothing charm can’t handle.
Flashing her my most affectionate smile, I said,
"Dear Sarah," I made sure to reverence her name, "I know of the policies in place at Raleigh’s, and I assure you this is something of an emergency and it won’t take time at all, five minutes top"
Scribbling down some notes, she said,
"If it’s that important, why don’t you give me the message and I will pass it to her"
I was surprised that she had been immune to my charm, until she laughed, a sound - rich and infectious.
"That was a joke, Sir, you don’t have to look so serious, here, fill in your information, let me go and get her" she surmised after laughing.
"You almost had me there, Sarah, well done" I smirked at her as she left to call Lucy.
I hastily filled out the blanks on the form she left.
Five seconds after I was done, Sarah came back, Lucy trailing behind her.
"Hello Luce" I minced.
Either she fell for that or that she was good at playing along because she said,
"Hello Rich"
Using affectionate terms meant that we knew each other, so the nurses won’t suspect anything amiss.
It worked, they didn’t even bat an eye as Lucy led me down the hall, but they snickered and giggled as we left.
She led me to an empty corner at the end of the hall, and without wasting time, she began,
"I take it that you got my message"
"If you mean that amateur trial at blackmail then yes" I scoffed.
Without waiting for her to make a rejoinder, I continued,
"Now listen and listen well, I don’t take it lightly with threats especially when it comes from insignificant piece of shits like you. You, being added to the list was a mistake, you are a sloppy second and I couldn’t have someone whom another man had used and dumped on my list of wife prospects. Shush, I’m not done, now if as much as a word about the selection gets out, whether it’s from you or not, Alex would pay for your carelessness. And unlike your baseless threats, mine are facts so don’t test me Luce, lest you disappear without a trace"
She was shaking by the time I was done, exactly what I anticipated. And seeing her in that state gave me thrills of power, power that I wasn’t ready to let go.
Leaning towards her, as she backed away till she was pressed to the wall, I whispered in her ear,
"Remember, without a single trace"
She sagged to the marble floors in morbid fear as I turned to leave.
A few paces away from her, I heard her sob,
"Please, I will not utter a word, just leave Alex alone, please"
I didn’t even turn as I purred,
"For his sake, I hope you don’t"
Her sobs followed me as I walked away.
"Thank you for your understanding, Sarah, I hope our paths cross again" I called to her as I walked by the reception.
Her fellow nurses giggled and shared whispers behind their clipboards. I was almost at the door when Sarah seemed to find her voice as she called back,
"Likewise, Sir, um... Richard"
With a smile, I left the building.
