A Villain's POV -
Chapter 44: Strange Rock
Chapter 44: Strange Rock
Raze took a deep breath of relief as he saw the notification. He looked at the bear on the ground—he could barely believe that in just one day, he had been through so many battles and had come out victorious.
Sure, he had some help and also had to use many other methods to actually win this, but still, in the end, all that mattered was that he had survived through this.
He was about to sit down near a tree to recover, but he felt something strange from the head of the bear, like there was a force pulling him.
He slowly approached the bear with caution. One could never be too cautious, especially in a place like this.
He bent down next to the bear, pulled out his knife, and stabbed right into the head. His movements were jagged and careless—he just wanted to get into the head and see what was there.
He expected to see disgusting brain matter and blood, but to his surprise, the inside of this bear’s head was filled with a very solid-looking black brain with purple glowing lines all over it.
Raze knew he was no specialist, but he was certain that this was not how it was supposed to be. He decided to stab into it. His blade went inside and suddenly hit something solid like a rock.
No brain should have a solid matter like that, right? He tore open the brain, and there it was at the center—a black rock with purple lines all over it.
He didn’t know what that was or what it was doing here. He had no recollection of a rock like this in the story, so this was entirely new to him.
He dug out the rock and picked it up to take a look. It felt strange in his hands—he had never seen a rock like this, and it gave off a very weird energy.
Suddenly, all his wounds began burning up. The pain got so intense he fell to the ground, groaning. He let go of the rock, and immediately, the pain stopped.
"What the hell was that?" Raze asked. He stared at the rock and then stared at his wound on his leg—it felt somehow better.
He immediately loosened the wrap around it and checked the wound, only to see that it was half-healed. Raze was not dumb—he put two plus two together, and immediately, he understood what was happening here.
This rock had somehow started healing him, and to test his theory, he picked up the rock again. Immediately, as he picked it up, the burning pain returned. He gritted his teeth in pain, refusing to let go of it this time.
His wounds healed up at an unbelievable pace as he pushed through all the pain and discomfort. The pain continued for a while, and then it stopped.
When it stopped, he immediately checked on his wounds, but they were all healed up—every one, even the stab in his gut.
Raze looked at the rock with shining eyes. What had he just found? Though the process of healing was painful as hell, the fact that he could heal from wounds was already a massive win.
He didn’t know the limits of this rock, but he would find a way to test it. For now, he decided to keep it away. He placed it inside the gi trousers’ pockets, making sure it wouldn’t fall out.
He took one more look at the bear he had killed. With a satisfied smile, he left and walked into the forest. He wanted to find Joel. Sure, Joel was a waste of space and a real pain in the ass to him, but he had still helped out for the second time.
Raze might not have cared for Joel, but still, he had to pay Joel back for risking his life to save Raze, even after Raze had been an ass to him the whole time.
Raze walked deeper into the forest, trying to track where Joel could have run to. When there was no trace, he decided to use his spatial sense, and immediately, as he did, he found Joel’s footprints. He followed them and continued searching for him.
As Raze walked, he kept running through his memory of the story he had read. He tried to find out if he had come across anything like this rock in the story.
But no matter how he thought about it, nothing came to mind. He could only come to the conclusion that this was a new plot point in the story or certain unwritten events that had now come into play since the world was actually a fully operating world.
Either way, he made a mental note to search for information on the rock, but until then, he would keep it a secret at all costs.
An item that could heal injuries was definitely not something common. Even in a world ruled by magic, healing items were still very, very sought after.
After walking for a bit more, Raze finally found Joel. He was hidden behind a tree, sitting down and breathing like someone who had just run a marathon.
"So you chuck two rocks and run away?" Raze asked as he reached him. Joel jumped in fright when he saw Raze—he didn’t expect to see him.
"You... you made it?" Joel asked.
"Huh? Were you planning on killing me?" Raze asked with a raised brow.
"No, no, no! It’s not like that at all. It’s just... you were injured, and that beast was really strong," Joel said.
"I know, I’m pulling your leg," Raze said. "I managed to kill it. It was a battle that would either end with me dead or the beast dead—there was no escape, no surrender, nothing like that.
I had to put everything on the line to win. Also, you helped me a lot, I admit that. Thank you, Joel." Raze said and stretched out his hand for Joel. Joel grabbed the hand, and Raze pulled him up.
"Let’s get some rest," Raze said.
