A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods -
Chapter 87: Ignore the Problems and Farm Away!
Chapter 87: Ignore the Problems and Farm Away!
Since Elaina woke up early and felt so energetic after a good sleep, she started stretching for her usual morning routine. A good stretch and light exercise is good for the body, especially for pregnant women during the morning. That way, she doesn’t feel the fatigue later on. Seeing that no one else seems to notice that she is awake, it is clear that yesterday was a big thing, and whatever happened after she collapsed might have cost a lot of energy for them to remain asleep for this long.
"Well, I am sorry for leaving earlier yesterday guys but thank you for guarding the fort."
Elaina went to the kitchen and saw that the food was already ready, just needed to be reheated. Seeing that it was good, Elaina did not hesitate to eat it. She skipped dinner entirely so she is famished.
"[Are you sure you are fine now? You looked so bad earlier that I got worried you might have some complications after.]" the god of farming asked.
"Yeah, I am quite good right now. I don’t feel anything bad in my belly as well as my head. Everything has returned to normal."
"[Then that is good. Don’t stress out yourself. Just because you needed to defend the farm and your family doesn’t mean you needed to be stressed about it, just be casual and tackle it normally. I even advise you to just ignore it and let the chaos they bring just cook in the background instead.]"
"Hmm, good point. Why do I need to worry about them if I don’t care about them? Thanks for the advice. I still have the plants I needed to be worried about, I have no time to care about their antics or whatever."
Elaina grabbed the watering can and her sickle with a smile after eating breakfast and sighed before smiling.
"Alright, it’s time for another day!"
...
...
...
"AAAAAHHHHH!"
The very first thing that welcomed Elaina was a scream not too far from the area. She went outside fully and turned to the direction where she heard the scream and saw a few of the soldiers that she remembered to be part of the soldiers that accompanied her parents screaming in pain. She even saw a few hitting the fence with swords but it was like something was something of them and they got rebounded every time.
"What the hell are they even doing there?"
"[Probably playing around? Or maybe they are just there to scare you or something so that you will leave the farm?]" The god of farming tried his best to speak like he didn’t know despite being the one who secretly ordered the Harvest Goddess to do what she needed to do to repel every troublemaker off the farm.
"Hmm, probably. And seeing that they are not doing anything inside the farm or even on the fence, eh, I think it is fine to ignore them."
Elaina was startled when a furry thing suddenly rubbed itself on her legs. When she looked at the source of the fluffy feeling, she saw Shardu rubbing itself on her.
"Ooh! Shardu! Good morning! How are you today? You looking sharp as ever!"
Elaina tried to pat Shardu and she was pleasantly surprised when Shardu rubbed on her hands, allowing her to pat the little cat that does not resemble a normal cat at all.
"Hehe, looks like you are now comfortable with me, huh? Thanks for remaining as the guard of the farm, Shardu!"
Although Shardu does not give out the same cries as cats, its little nods are enough for Elaina to know that the little creature does understand her words.
Elaina stretched her arms as she stepped outside before she smelled the air and let the summer heat permeate her skin.
"Ooohhh, the farm is still as peaceful as ever!"
"AAAAGGGHHHH!"
"Yeah, I can work harder with how peaceful things are going!"
As she was enjoying the atmosphere, the Feys also appeared, ready to tackle the day.
"Boss! Good morning!"
"MORNING BOSS!"
The family is looking energetic as usual and Elaina is happy that they were not harmed or anything during yesterday’s scuffle especially since she blacked out halfway.
"Are you okay, boss? I heard from the others here that you collapsed and can’t work for the rest of the afternoon so we took over the work and did what we saw fit for the area," Bam asked, concerned for his employer’s health.
"Thanks for being worried but I am fine. Did you guys harvest a few of the cucumbers while I was out? I am sorry I didn’t get to give you all some payments."
"It’s alright. We took one cucumber last night as an advanced payment but we didn’t take anything else as we are afraid you might be angry at us."
"Oh, no, no. You guys are a big help. Take how much you all needed. We will be harvesting more later on, so take them! We have lots of them and I would appreciate it if you guys also enjoyed the fruits of my labor as well since I planted these little ones while you guys are still not here."
"In that case, we will be happy to receive them. But first, we will begin the day’s work. We are ready to receive orders!"
"Alright. Then, please help me clear the area from weeds and debris like tree branches on the seeded plots to ensure that the growth of every seed is unimpeded."
"Got it!"
Ignoring all of the ruckus and screams being made by the soldiers, Elaina started to water the plants that were not included in the sprinklers and inspected every single plot of land on which she planted the plants. She is seeing a few of them showing signs of growth already and some have sprouted a tiny bud already. As for the Feys, they are diligently plucking out the weeds that start to grow on the soil around the plots. Regular weeding helps remove the potential enemies of the crops from gathering nutrients. Removing them while they are still young is necessary before they get big and get out of hand.
"Alright, it seems they are growing smoothly like usual! I just hope they grow as healthy as before."
Elaina checked the cucumbers again for any diseases on their leaves and fruits so that she could avoid the blights on her plants. It might start becoming common in summer though she has to be careful about that. With some plants being sensitive and with the heat becoming more hotter by the day, Elaina has to be careful with everything or it might turn into a disaster if she does not pay attention.
She carefully plucked the cucumbers one by one by cutting the little stems that connect themselves to the main plant and placed them in the baskets one by one. With the cucumbers being popular and in demand right now, she must continue to harvest the mature fruits and ship them to those who need them while also making sure she still has plenty of them still ready for harvest. A steady flow of income is necessary, especially in farming.
She can’t just release all batches in one single sale to ensure that the people who are looking for these products will continue to buy out the items the moment they appear in the market. Releasing them in bulk might end up the demand to rapidly decline so she has to be careful as well.
After ensuring that the cucumbers were looking good, Elaina went straight to the experimental plants from before. Just like what she expected, all three did not survive the changing seasons and they have wilted. Their fruits remain though so she harvested the remaining fruits of the experimental plants before. She also noticed that the EX02 had changed quite drastically the moment the plant died. The usual fruit looked like it started to "ripen" as the fruit color changed into a bright color red.
Despite this, Elaina harvested them and cleared out the dead plants properly. Now that the first batch of Experimental plants is done, Elaina will have to wait until the God of Farming starts to distribute further experimental crops she needs to grow.
Next, she went inside the chicken coop where all the Hencluckle she tamed were present. This time around, it seems the Hencluckles are more active than usual. However, with the coop’s space being very limited, Elaina is now thinking of creating a little fenced area near the coop so that she can let these little fellas roam around and graze on the ground. Since they are not chickens and they all cannot fly like how a normal chicken does, Elaina has another plan that she wants Jacob to work on as well.
Elaina wiped off her sweat and smiled. Although her current work is small at the moment, she is grateful that she has some time to relax after the current work. She is positive her work will increase as time goes on so she is enjoying her breaks too. Looking at the current ruckus being made by the soldiers outside the farm, Elaina wanted to at least enjoy the day without being stressed by them for the time being.
And from the looks of it, the advice of the God of Farming was very effective in improving her mood.
