Chapter 84: Protection

Amidst all of the incidents that happened on the farm, all of these did not escape the eyes of the Harvest Goddess. She has already gotten an idea of what these intruders on the farm and what they are currently doing. Although it is usually the best way to not get involved in human affairs because she is a lesser goddess and not an actual goddess that is on the same level as the God of Farming and Agriculture and the Goddess of Taming, she can interfere lightly on human affairs albeit just a little bit to help out on humans.

She has been using her abilities to help out the farmer named Elaina who one day came into the farm that multiple farmers usually abandon. For once, someone who is not afraid of her, and not only that, she was also blessed and currently under the grace of the God of Farming himself.

Although she is not attached to humans, this particular human is quite nice and the fact that she regularly gives her offerings even when she doesn’t need the power that she gives is something that the Harvest Goddess remembers.

Right now, she saw Elaina defend the farm using her effort to deal with people who were trying to harm it. And she is impressed by how Elaina did it. She didn’t do anything nor she asked for help. All that happened earlier was just the work of Elaina herself. For a human, she is someone who can be considered as someone peculiar.

Of course, she also knows that Elaina is currently out of commission after the display she did earlier so the farm is defenseless aside from the magic barrier that the other girl who can use magic deployed around the farm. It wasn’t a great barrier as those who are stronger than her can easily break it. It is better than nothing but she can’t help but be worried. After all, she can easily tell that those people who arrived earlier might do something once again.

While she is eating some of the offerings given to her in her domain while currently observing the surroundings, she then gets a call from the God of Farming and Agriculture, her boss in the form of a green parrot.

"[Hey, are you there or are you just lazing here and there?]" the green parrot speaks with the voice from the God of Farming.

"Ah! I am here! I am not lazing at all, nope, never been doing that for a while! Yes!" The Harvest Goddess panicked.

"[It sounds suspicious but I don’t care about that right now. Anyway, I have a task for you which is a first coming from me. I will grant you a little bit of authority using my power to expand your abilities for a bit. It isn’t much but it should exponentially increase your capabilities quite a lot. Failure is not an option if you still value your main source of offerings.]"

"Oh no, no. Please, don’t take away my only source of holy power! Natural holy power is not enough and having at least one supporter giving an offering is something that I would be happy to have. Yes, I can live with just one! But please don’t take it away!" the Harvest Goddess started to beg.

"[Hey, I am not taking it away. I don’t need it. And since the offerings are helping, why would I take them away from you? You have been doing a good job after getting daily offerings nowadays compared to your idle times. The reason I said that your daily offerings might be in danger of disappearing is because of what you witnessed earlier.]"

"Wait, you mean those people that the human farmer confronted earlier?" the Harvest Goddess immediately realized that she was just jumping to an assumption earlier.

"[Yes. They are here to try and take back the farmer to where she was once before. She refuses to leave and now those people are going to do many things to bring her back with them. So, if you don’t want your only source of daily offerings to disappear forever, then this job is something that you will need to do as a mandatory job for the time being.]"

Hearing the entire explanation, made the Harvest Goddess finally have a reason to stop worrying.

"I see. I thought it would be what I was thinking. So in short, you are asking me to become a protector of this farm?"

"[Indeed. As the farmer collapses from exerting herself too much, she won’t be able to respond to any trouble that might come and although she has companions with her, you can’t just rely on them as they are also human and they have different schedules to do as well. They cannot guard her whole day. And since you are someone who does not sleep, this is a perfect temporary job for you. All you have to do is repel all dangers that might befall this farm or straight to Elaina herself. It is also one of the reasons I am lending you a bit of my power as there might be some circumstances that you don’t expect. Don’t treat your enemies lightly.]"

"Yes. If that is the case then I am willing to serve through this job and protect this farm from danger. If this resulted in the farmer disappearing forever, then I will do my best to not let any harmful thing befall her or her farm."

"[Good. And I think a first practice would be a good thing, yes? Look over there on the edge, a few of the soldiers from the earlier morning are crouching and seemingly waiting for some opportunity to appear. If you manage to deal with it right now, I will give access to what I promised earlier.]"

Pumped up, the Harvest Goddess grinned and snapped her fingers. "I will deal with them in no time!"

*SNAP*

As she snapped her fingers, the barrier that existed from earlier was reinforced. Only those who are allowed to move in and out of the barrier will be allowed to go inside. In short, the soldiers that are trying to sneak in, will not be able to enter.

When the soldiers knew that the coast was clear, they tried to enter and try to cross and enter the farm to sabotage the place but an unexpected thing happened and they got blocked by some invisible barrier. They tried their best to go and break the barrier but they failed. Due to this, the soldiers didn’t bother to continue doing so as this would trigger or maybe cause them to be discovered so they immediately left.

"[Good work, but that doesn’t mean your work is over. A portion of my power can be given to you to unlock your latent potential. Now, while the Farmer is still knocked out, it is time for you to do your little job, yes?]"

They might be gods, but that doesn’t mean that they can just laze around while observing them. After all, everyone is just working on another work. And just like humans, gods do work too.
