A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods -
Chapter 68: A Little Fey
Chapter 68: A Little Fey
Elaina and the girls returned home. The two are exhausted after the encounter while Elaina remains energetic. Shardu is happy that they have returned and based on how it behaved, it is anticipating the meal for the night as well. Elaina chuckled as she already planned to get a separate stack of meat for Shardu to be prepared specially for the little guard.
Elaina surveyed the farm once more to double-check if anything was not normal after they left. After all, even if Shardu is guarding the farm, there might be some things that Shardu might have missed or some crops have been destroyed for unknown reasons. It’s not like she doesn’t trust the little fella but she is more worried about them. After all, only a few weeks before summer starts to roll and once it goes on, Elaina will have to make a final harvest of her crops so that she can begin to plant another set of crops and begin her crop rotation in the future. She might have wonderful fertilizers, but she doesn’t want to keep on relying on them.
After she has checked it out, she heads over to the shipping bin and pulls out the stuff inside her rucksack that she has foraged over on the forests that she nor Julia and Princess Margaux have no use but can be shipped into the bin and proceeds to drop all of them inside the box. It might not be cropped, but because this is extra money, Elaina will take it willingly.
There are lots of stuff that she doesn’t need that can earn a few gold. Since the market will take everything unless it is utter garbage, taking those things that they can’t use and shipping them to the shipping bin would bring more benefits. Who knows if the market needs those materials urgently, she might strike gold as a result.
After she has done shipping everything inside the shipping bin, Elaina is prepared to go back inside the house and start to change her clothes when Shardu goes out from the doghouse and starts baring its sharp fangs at the entrance of the forest.
"Enemy?!"Elaina immediately readies her sword, waiting to see if it is the kobolds once again.
But nothing appeared. Elaina glanced at Shardu once again and the guy didn’t even calm down and remained growling, showing its fangs while staring at the gloomy forest entrance now that it was about to get dark.
"Sis! Someone seems to have invaded the farm! I can detect someone entering the perimeter!"
"Is it an enemy under stealth abilities or is it able to use concealment?" Elaina didn’t let her guard down and using Shardu growling in a certain direction, she tried to pinpoint whoever invaded the farm.
"There’s no one?" Julia frowned as there was not a single person or monster appearing in sight.
"It might be concealing itself. Is Princess Margaux inside the house?" Elaina asked.
"Yes, I suggested to her to not come out until the danger passes. We don’t want to risk any sort of mishaps in terms of safety so I prioritize making her stay inside."
Knowing that she doesn’t need to worry about Margaux. Elaina focuses on the task at hand. While they were talking Shardu started moving around now, sniffing like a dog. Despite the appearance of Shardu looking like a cat, it is very different to see other than a dog and its similar variety of dog creatures being done by other animals and other species.
"Sis, it seems Shardu can smell the intruder. We should follow him and see where it leads us," Julia recommended.
"You can’t detect the intruder?" Elaina asked.
"Unfortunately, for some reason, I can’t detect the presence of this intruder at all after it entered the little barrier. It was like it used the essence of the barrier and used it as a way to cover its presence and freely move around the area without us noticing."
Elaina and Julia follow behind Shardu who continues to sniff things out and try to figure out where the intruder is. They are slowly thinking that perhaps it was a fluke at first but they soon realize that the intruder was just less than clever and more on being undetectable due to how the intruder was naturally looking.
As they continue to follow Shardu, the latter immediately senses something and quickly quickens its pace and it quickly moves towards the nearest fence where Elaina keeps the experimental plants planted. There, Shardu tried to grab something.
"What is Shardu doing?" Elaina frowned.
"Not sure, but perhaps there is something there?" Julia didn’t take her eyes off Shardu who continued to try and grab something with its paws.
When they thought that maybe Shardu grabbed a rat, they then heard a tiny voice.
"Let me go! What are you doing!"
It is a very tiny voice. So tiny that if Elaina has no great sense of hearing, she won’t hear it immediately.
"You hear that, Julia?" Elaina looked at Julia.
"What? Hear what?" Julia is clueless. It seems she didn’t hear anything.
Elaina slowly approached Shardu and before she could fully come close, Shardu then looked at me and seemed to be gesturing at something underneath his foot. He didn’t try to eat or bite it but just put his entire paw underneath the one who was screaming for help.
As Elaina peeked at what this thing shouting, Elaina then saw a small humanoid person currently struggling underneath the paw of Shardu. This guy is not that big but even a literal baby is much bigger than this person struggling is.
"Julia, come here. Look, Shardu caught our intruder."
Julia didn’t waste time and took a look at who this person was and realized that Shardu just locked in someone forever.
"Argh! Let me go! Just because I am a small fey doesn’t mean I am just going to let this slide! Ugh, remove the damn paw!"
Elaina then grabbed her knife and stabbed the ground, just inches away from the small guy to threaten him causing the latter to shudder in terror as the blade almost fell onto his face. Elaina on the other hand is happy that Shardu is not terrified of what she did. She found it amazing that Shardu was not even terrified of that. She then focused her attention on the squirming intruder.
"Who are you? And why are you here on my farm intruding? Just so you know your fate will depend on your answer. I don’t care what you are, state your business and reasoning as to why you are currently here."
"Alright, alright! Please don’t kill me. And I am sorry for intruding! I don’t mean any harm! I am just a normal farm fey who is looking for a job at farms! Please don’t feed me to this fella here! I swear I am not delicious!"
