Chapter 466: Joint Forces

Chapter 466: Joint Forces

The King of Bernel Kingdom looks at Elaina with a strange gaze. It was like he was questioning why this woman seemed to be letting his actions go.

"Are you kidding?" the Bernel Kingdom’s king frowned.

"Do I look like I am joking?" Elaina grinned. Enemies or not, it is a business opportunity for her.

"You really think I won’t do something at your offer and backstab you on the way?"

"Heh, it depends. Of course, if you plan on doing that, then I can’t do anything about it. It’s your choice after all."

Despite the reluctance of the king, it seems that he has no choice and has decided to accept the offer. He might be a villain, but if he was easily defeated by someone who is much more shrewd than him, then he can’t do anything about that. Now the king realizes how she was a feared businesswoman back in her Empress days. She goes totally ham on her enemies who endanger her business and converts them to business partners and a joint contract. It was like she had already formed an unwritten contract that if not followed, danger would follow.

One wrong move from this business venture, and he is dead without any way of fighting back. And if he rejects it now, there is a chance that even getting her products will be a troublesome process.

He might have wanted to own the farm, but if faced by an immovable wall like her, it is best to swallow his pride and work in combination with her efforts; otherwise, things will not look good.

"Alright, I will accept. But promise me that my soldiers and I will walk out of this place alive, and our business continues."

Elaina nodded with a knowing smile. "Oh, I am a rational businesswoman. The moment you lot have surrendered and withdrawn the intent of doing anything, your lives have been saved."

The king sighed in relief, but he still looked at Elaina strangely. Elaina caught that and grinned once more at him. "I can tell from your face what you are thinking, and if you think you can use that again against me or my business, then say goodbye to this world."

"Fine. I understand why you distrust me. Therefore, I will stay away from you and this kingdom. However, I will entrust this matter to my secretary. He will act as my intermediary to handle the business."

"Alright. Pleasure doing business with you, Your Highness."

The young king rolled his eyes and ordered his men to leave. There were a lot of things he wanted to do if he had succeeded, but since he failed and the one who will handle the business is his secretary, he decided that he would discuss this matter with his secretary. He might not like the decision, but this is for the best. At least, his secretary has sharp senses and is a much better businessman than him. It’s a small sacrifice just to avoid the potential deaths. He will apologize later."

As fast as the group arrived at the farm, the faster they left. Elaina sighed in relief as it didn’t turn into a bloodshed. If it had turned into a bloodshed, things would have been really bad.

Once the men are out of sight, everyone comes out of where they were hiding and discusses what just happened. Her sons and daughters flocked Elaina, worried at her after witnessing the incident.

"MOM! Are you alright?" Arthur looks so worried.

"I am sorry, Mom if I didn’t get to help out on fighting them," Raye felt a bit of regret.

"I am also worried about Mom, but seeing her shrug that magic spell like nothing looks so badass. I wonder if I can also do that in the future?" Layla tilted her head, wondering.

"Doubt it. You can use magic, and unless you are like Mom, who can’t use magic in the slightest, I don’t think you can replicate what Mom just did not that long ago," Adelaide shook her head.

The hearty laugh of the old man sage can be heard as he approaches them as well. It was quite loud, so everyone could tell he was the one doing it.

"Hahahaha! Well now, color me surprised to learn about that encounter. I heard rumors about your tactics in business, but never thought I would witness that happening. But seeing their faces full of confusion and shock was entertaining! Hahahaha!" the Grand Sage started laughing again.

"Just ignore Master, Sis. He is just so easily amused by anything like what happened earlier. But I didn’t expect to see you just shrug off the magic power that the King of Bernel Kingdom released at your head. It was quite strong since even when I am not directly on the scene, I can easily feel the pressure he used against you," Julia said as she started inspecting Elaina’s head. "So, do you feel weird, Sis? I know you are dull in magic influence, but we should double-check just in case."

"Thanks for worrying, Julia. But I am fine. See, I don’t feel anything at all," Elaina smiled as she shook her head.

"I suggest you still let yourself get checked, Miss Elaina. I recognize the magic the King of Bernel Kingdom used, and that was a dark element magic spell meant for controlling minds. It’s not mandatory, but even if you are magically dull in senses, there’s no way that didn’t affect you at all in your mind," Yona is concerned.

The Grand Sage chimed in as well. "The ancient witch is correct. Even if you are magically dull, remnants of that magic spell must have remained in your mind. You just don’t feel the effects due to your circumstances, but it might cause trouble in the future. Just to be safe."

Elaina nodded. If even the Grand Sage recommends it, then she has no choice but to agree. But thanks to her dull senses for magic, she survived this encounter without a hitch. Without it, perhaps the worst must have happened, and her original plan would have been worried.

...

...

...

Just like what the King of Bernel Kingdom promised, he sent his secretary to handle the business the next day.

"My king has already departed first thing in the morning and has given me the rights to handle the business management that he was forced to accept," the secretary pushes his glasses up to the bridge of his nose while looking like he was so fatigued.

"Aha, so you must be the secretary he was talking about? And here I thought he would have a female secretary, but I guess he doesn’t care as long as they can work wonders in their work?" Elaina sized up the new secretary before her.

"I am Shun Hardenia. Working as His Majesty’s secretary. And although I was his secretary, he does prefer a female secretary, the problem is that he hasn’t found anyone else just yet who can compete with my abilities as a secretary, so he was forced to stick with me."

Elaina chuckled. "Well, looks like you were cast out, huh?"

"Hah...it doesn’t matter. Since this work-related matter and to also help my home nation, I will do my job. Anyways, I am sent here by my master to sort out the trouble he left behind, meaning the business plan related to the trade of goods that cannot be farmed and grown in our homeland in exchange for gold."

"Correct."

"Let me clarify this first. Before I came here, I surveyed the marketplace for your products, and I can say that most of your goods are affordable and are freshly picked. So here is my question. Considering his Majesty has offended you during his visit, does that mean we do get to purchase goods, but we will suffer expensive additional expenses in the process as a punishment for his actions?"

Elaina chuckled. "Did he say that to you?"

"Not really, but he said it might be a potential thing considering the bad blood between the two of you."

"Well, I can certainly do that if I lack money and I want to squeeze dry your nation, but I am not an unreasonable person, and as a businesswoman, I always follow the equal pricing I give to all my customers, whether they have bad blood or not. If something bad happens, though, I won’t hesitate to terminate our partnership."

"Good to hear. Now, let’s get into business, shall we?"

Elaina and Shun started their negotiations. Despite what the King of Bernel Kingdom did, she didn’t create a vengeful situation for them that they would suffer as a result. Even if she is a bit shrewd, Elaina follows a proper way to handle business. If she becomes a tyrant and decides to antagonize the kingdom, then her customers would most likely have trouble in the future, and it would be a bad precedent in business.

And besides, Elaina doesn’t need too much money in the first place.

Compared to the king of Bernel Kingdom, his secretary is more calculating and is much more tolerable for Elaina. It didn’t take too long for them to strike the final deal and leave with a grin on their face. Before he left, he thanked Elaina for this opportunity.

"On behalf of my king, I apologize for his rash actions. And I appreciate your ways as a businesswoman. Thanks to the goods that will be delivered, the kingdom will finally have a good reason to have a greater variety of food soon."

Elaina nodded and smiled. Who would have thought that the trouble that was brewing would be solved easily, and she would earn some business in the process? There are lots of unexpected ways in the process, but she is happy that there was no proper blood that was spilled in the process and war was avoided.
