Chapter 463: The King’s Response

The next day, Elaina was expecting new things that those men might decide to do just so they could buy the farm. She expected this as she knew that those men would do anything just to acquire something they wanted, even if it meant resorting to underhanded tactics.

But a whole day has passed, and nothing happened. She even peacefully harvested the grapes that they had planted not too long ago and finished in one day, and yet those men are not anywhere near the farm. Not even a surveillance or annoyance, which is weird.

"Are you waiting for someone, boss?" Poe asked as she noticed Elaina seemed to be always looking at the gate multiple times now.

"Oh, I am not waiting for them specifically, but I am looking to see if those men from yesterday would suddenly stir up some trouble. After all, they wanted to buy the farm, and I shamed them a lot. I thought they would be coming back with a vengeance."

"Those guys, huh? Last night, I thought there were some people talking at the gates, but I don’t think they were the ones. Perhaps they just passed by since not even Zaza or Shardu reacted to it."

Elaina blinked a few times and looked at the gates. That’s when she realized something. Considering that she has added a few Garden Guardians in the past, she thought those plants had not done anything after they had grown properly. They act as decorations, but nothing else at the moment. But if Poe had noticed something last night, Elaina couldn’t ignore it and decided to investigate the farm gate.

The gate has no signs of tampering or any signs that they are going to be destroyed by someone, but there are indeed signs of someone climbing on the gate. There are still some shoeprints left behind on the gate, which means they did climb up and perhaps entered her property last night.

But considering that nothing happened that night and no result of problems resulted in the morning, Elaina has a hunch about their ultimate fate. She glanced at the Garden Guardians. The gun flower and the vine sword seem to be still and clean, meaning they are not the ones that dealt with things. But the other one of the Garden Guardians, the Chomping Fly Trap, which was supposed to be a cage for intruders, was filled with something.

Since Elaina is the one that the Garden Guardians mark as the owner, when Elaina wanted to check the mouth of the Chomping fly trap, it didn’t remain closed and opened up for Elaina to inspect, and as she expected, she saw various skeletal remains inside. They are in the middle of melting, which means that a few more hours and those remains will disappear forever without even leaving any signs that any kind of traces those people.

And based on what the skeletons are wearing, it is indeed those men from yesterday. Their clothes might have already melted and look worn out inside the plant, but since Elaina has recently seen those clothes, she knows enough that she can pinpoint that these men are indeed the Bernel Kingdom agents, but they met their doom after trying to sneak in.

Counting the remains that are still being digested, Elaina noticed that they are lacking a few men. Not all of them have been swallowed, which means those men decided to escape death and live to tell the tale as their comrades die.

Elaina sighed and closed the mouth of the chomper once more. Knowing the end of those men, she is glad that their bodies will be disposed of. But considering that there are survivors, the King will surely try to ask what happened to the other men, and those guys will probably tell what happened. Even if the chomper easily disposes of the traces that came from those guys, Elaina will surely get a visit from another king’s representative, or perhaps the king of Bernel Kingdom himself will do so.

But even faced with that dilemma, Elaina is not afraid of it. If they are the ones who did it, then for Elaina, that matter is not something that the other king has a say in. After all, it is pretty legal to dispose of and execute any intruder on your property, especially if they are planning something that would harm the family inside the house.

But first, Elaina has to change the setup of the Garden Guardians. Perhaps the cage plants would be a better alternative before settling with lethal garden guardians further into the farm. If there are any intruders, she wants to question them and see why they are there in the first place.

Elaina’s hunch was correct. After the events that night, the remaining men of the Bernel Kingdom’s king was the only people left in the group. Since those guys who leap into the gate have never returned, they decided to be the ones who would relay the information to the king and report their failure.

Using a communication device, they contact the King, who is sailing to reach Darcero Kingdom. It didn’t take too long before the King answered the call.

"I presume something happened, yes?" the king guessed.

"Your Majesty! That farm was abnormal! And the farmer herself is dangerous! Boss tried to return and exact revenge on the farmer and humiliate her so that she would be forced to sell the farm only to not return for the night."

"Oh? Interesting, continue."

"Yes, sir! The boss ordered us to raid the farmer’s house after our failure to negotiate with her to sell the farm. However, when we started to infiltrate the farm, every one of the men who had already gone to climb and infiltrate did not respond, and after a few tries, we realized that something might have happened to the,m and in the end. We left in panic and fear that the farm was actually doing something to intruders, butthe boss did not retreat. In the end, he did not return this morning,g and here we are reporting all of this matter."

"Good grief. It seems we are not dealing with an easy farmer eh? Still great job for leaving the site before something bad happened. Now we have a bit of intel from them. Wait for us and we will reach the harbor of Darcero Kingdom soon. Since your leader is gone, the remaining ones would be the only people who will welcome me. Make sure to relay everything to me afterwards and I will reward you lot for your hard work."

After cutting the communication line, the young king of Bernel Kingdom grinned. "Very interesting."
