Chapter 295: The First Artisan Good Recipes [II]

With the apple sauce done, Poe set it aside to cool down and moved to the next stuff they would be doing.

"Next, we shall do the apple jam. Boss, do you know how to make Jams in general?"

Elaina nodded. Although a beginner, she does have a slight knowledge related to jams. "I am not too familiar with it, but I do have an idea how to make it. Never tried it though."

"Then it shouldn’t be a problem. Making jams is easy. And with the amount of apples we have, I don’t think we will have a problem creating a jam. Compared to the apple wine that you and my husband made, the apple jam will be good to go once it is bottled and cooled down after its creation, allowing us to sell it to the market if you want to do so. Considering lots of people like to put some filling on their bread, a jam is something that would be a great product to sell, I must say."

Considering that Elaina barely sees any Jams aside from the little variety in the market, there must be little to no competition if Elaina did try to sell some.

"Anyways, we should prepare all of what we should need to make the jam. Since we will be making a lot for selling and also for consumption."

Because they need to peel the apples, Pam and Joe have to pitch in and help out peeling the apples so as not to overwhelm Elaina with the work. The apple peeling would take a while but it is a necessary thing to continue the work.

Elaina is already fast in peeling apples so it wasn’t too much of a bother for her to peel a lot of them. She finishes each apple with quick dexterity that even Pam and Joe couldn’t keep up with her speed.

As for the peeled apples, Poe sliced them into pieces and put them in a pot with water to boil the fruit. Elaina and the two feys continued to peel the apple in a frenzy, the apples that Poe thought would take a while to be finished peeling were already done before she knew it.

"Oh! That was fast boss, I didn’t expect to see you peel that fast with apples! Have you been peeling apples before for you to be this fast?" Poe asked Elaina after witnessing her speed.

"Nope. However, thanks to my experience in peeling other vegetables before, I slowly got the knack of peeling things fast. And since apples are not so complicated compared to vegetables that I had to peel in the past, it is easy for me to peel them all."

Poe smiled and handed Elaina the ladle. "Then you do the mixing boss, while I start cutting these apples to pieces. That way, it will be easier for us to blend this stuff for later."

"Leave it to me!" Elaina grinned with the ladle in hand.

The kitchen was so busy that Princess Margaux found it curious to go and check the situation.

"Princess! You are still awake?" Elaina was surprised to see Princess Margaux outside her room. She usually sleeps much earlier and it is unusual for Elaina to see her during that time.

"Well, I couldn’t sleep and was planning on heading downstairs to sleep with Zaza when I saw you guys here being busy. What are you all doing?" Princess Margaux heads over to Elaina’s side and peeks at what she is mixing.

"Ah, are you curious, Princess? We are making Apple Jam at the moment. And if you are hungry, we cooked some Apple Sauce earlier. We have some bread on the counter, you can have some if you like," Elaina pointed over at the cooled-down Apple sauce that are set aside.

"Can I?" Princess Margaux’s eyes lit up hearing the name apple sauce.

"Sure can! There’s plenty and we couldn’t eat all of them, having one additional person to help eat the apple sauce would be a great help."

Since she got the permission, Princess Margaux didn’t hesitate and started to help herself with the apple sauce. It seems she will be using it with the bread that Elaina mentioned to her.

Elaina continues her job at mixing the apples in the water, boiling it to soften the apples and make them easy to mush out. After a while, all of the apples are now in the pot and Elaina is diligently mixing the whole thing, making sure that the apples go soft as time goes on.

After around 30 minutes of mixing, the apple that was boiled for quite some time has become quite soft and Poe is satisfied as well.

"This should do! Joe, prepare the blender. We will start blending these apples before they cool down to ensure they are soft. Pam, ready the sugar, lemon juice, and citric acid. We will need them for later.

"You needed citric acid as well?" Elaina was surprised.

"Yes, so that the jam will not look like apple sauce later. This will help break down the apples into liquid form later that will mix together with the melted sugar. As for the lemon juice, it is to add a bit of tangy feeling and a little sour taste that will balance out the overwhelming sweetness to the jam once it is finished. We could even add some cinnamon to enhance its flavor and aroma as well, but since we are still starting out, cinnamon is only optional and we are free to not add them."

After the apples were ready, Poe and Elaina transferred the softened apples to the blender. Since it was a lot, they had to do it by batch or else it would overflow once it began the blending process. Elaina is grateful that she bought a blender before. She can have practical uses for them.

The softened apples are blended slowly but surely, ensuring not a single apple remains in its former form and reducing it to its mush-like state. A few more blends and it is now in liquid-mushy form.

Poe then transferred it back to the pot and began to heat it up again. She does it until every apple has entered the blender and has been reduced to its water-mushy form.

"Pam, sugar."

Pam hands over the sugar to Elaina who then opens the container, revealing the brown sugar they will be using.

"Please pour it on the pot, boss. This should sweeten up our jam once finished."

Hearing that, Elaina pours the sugar into the pot. She pours a lot of it and when Poe shouts "Stop", she then stops pouring the sugar.

"Alright boss, take over on the ladle. Melt the sugar and let it mix together with the blended apple and mix it. Maybe around 5 to 6 minutes at most."

Elaina nodded and continued the process of the jam’s creation. The smell of the apple is much more different compared to the apple sauce they created earlier. The smell of the melting sugar also contributes to the smell. It isn’t bad, but it is too sweet in the nose for her.

But she didn’t stop and continued mixing. Before Elaina knew it, the sugar was melted and it combined seamlessly with the apple that had blended earlier. It doesn’t look as mushy as before either.

"Alright, time to add the citric acid and lemon juice."

Poe adds the citric acid and lemon juice to the pot. It wasn’t a lot so Elaina’s concerns that it would turn very sour dissipated.

"Mix it again for another 15 minutes, Boss. That should make the jam get a bit clear afterward."

Although her hand started to get a bit tired, Elaina continued to mix the whole thing and as soon as minutes passed by, Elaina noticed that the mixture started to get clear. Not as clear as regular water, but it wasn’t so mushy compared to before. The sticky feeling of the ladle and the mixture also shows as well. She is now recognizing the same jam that she has consumed in the past.

"We are almost done, Boss. Pam, and Joe, prepare the glass jars we will need to bottle up the jam."

Mixing it a few more times, the jam soon is ready to be cooled down.

"Alright boss, that should be enough. Now, we just cool this down with our magic and we can start bottling up these. And we should be done after this."

As soon as she said that, Elaina’s eyes lit up when the almanac opened up and a small section appeared before Elaina, containing the detailed recipe for the apple jam. Then, Elaina recognized the pages that appeared before her.

"Wait a minute, does that mean the locked page for the almanac is now open?"

Then, a new chat box appeared before Elaina. It wasn’t the chat box that the Goddess of Taming uses and not the chat box of the Goddess of Medicine either.

"Is this the Goddess of Cooking’s chat box?"
