Chapter 293: Great Harvests, Great Profit
Afternoon came in and after everyone was done with their lunch, the work continued to progress. Elaina didn’t even care about the result of the trial that happened regarding her parents. The only thing that is on her mind is to finish the harvesting process, sell the produce rest for the day, and enjoy her time with her kids.
At the moment, Elaina is standing before the apple tree that she planted last time when she got it as a reward. Only a bit of time has passed but the tree has grown big and strong to the point that it is no longer a youngling tree but a proper and mature tree now. The trunk is also fully developed as well. Thanks to the fertilizer and the different composition the apple tree had in the first place, Elaina didn’t need to wait for many years before it became a full-fledged tree and bore its first fruit.
However, there is one thing that makes Elaina feel a bit confused.
"Wait a minute...aren’t apples supposed to be in season late summer and fall? It’s spring but why am I seeing a lot of the apples growing underneath the apple tree already?"
Hearing that, Bam approached Elaina who was looking up at the apple tree.
"You are right boss, apples should be blooming and bearing fruit starting around summer and would ripen late summer up until fall. However, boss, you should remember that you said this apple is not a regular apple tree. If it bears fruit off-season, that must mean this apple tree’s seasonal growth is different from regular apples and we should take note of that."
He snaps his finger and one apple falls straight into his hands. He then handed it to Elaina for testing.
"Here boss, you can have a test and taste it. It should be ripe enough for you to eat it."
The apple on her hand is very red. Much redder compared to the apples she saw in the market. Considering that the apples sold in the market are something that the farmers don’t grow due to how it is a hassle to maintain an apple orchard and how growing one apple tree takes time before it can even grow its first fruit, most apples in the local market are import from other kingdoms. Most people find the prices of apples expensive, making it only affordable for people who are in the middle class or those who are rich. Poor people can’t afford it at all.
She has tasted the apples sold in the market and considering that Elaina has tasted various apples back when she was still an empress, she knows what is a good apple and a bad one. Most of the apples sold in the local market are either middle-class or just poor quality. They are not great in quality at most and are passable at best.
Seeing the glistening look of the apple, Elaina couldn’t help but gulp her saliva. It looks delicious.
She went to the stream and washed it over the flowing water, cleaning it up from any dirt present like dust and small insects walking on it. After cleaning it on the water, she looked at the apple before her eyes and she instinctively felt the need to take a bite over it. She didn’t feel this way on other apples but for some reason, this one gives her that feeling.
CRUNCH!
One bite is all it took for her to feel like she has entered another dimension. Her body shook and she felt like her soul almost left her body just from that bite.
"This...this is...!" Elaina struggled to say anything as she continuously chewed the apple piece in her mouth. And before she could say any criticism to the apple, she made another bite...and another bite...
"Ah...?"
Then, she just realized everything...she ate the whole apple without realizing it.
"Unbelievable..."
"So how does it taste, Boss? From the looks of it, you seemed to enjoy the fruit a lot," Bam grinned at the stunned Elaina.
"I...That was amazing...I didn’t even realize it until I finished the whole thing..."
The apple core on her hand signifies that she didn’t have time to admire and appreciate the apple enough because she have eaten before she can do so.
She immediately shakes her head before she looks up at the apple tree.
"Mr. Bam, can you do that snap thing again? If you can, then can you drop all the ripe apples in this tree?"
...
...
...
Late afternoon.
The harvest is finally over and a dozen crates containing various produce that they harvested are now present. They already divided all of the produce that would be going to the Shipping Bin and the produce that will be distributed and used for personal consumption.
"That was a great harvest people. It is still early in spring but we are already a boatload of produce we have here."
"I agree boss! I didn’t even dream about seeing this much produce in front of me like this back then but seeing it being gathered like this, makes me kinda satisfied after all of that hard work!" Curaj said as he wiped his sweat off his forehead.
"Yes. Last year’s harvest is alright but you topped off the last year’s harvest I must say. Selling them should fetch quite a hefty price and you will gain lots of profit as well," Pam praised the amount that was harvested today and even Elaina can agree that it was more than last year. In fact, the harvest they got this season is like the combination of last year’s harvest during spring and summer.
"I don’t know how much I will be earning on this one but this should fetch quite a bit. Let me put this stuff in the shipping bin."
Curaj and Bam helped Elaina put the produce that was needed for selling. Considering that they are quite good quality-wise, Elaina can tell that she will not only get a lot of money tonight but she will be rich for a bit after this.
"Boss, are you sure you will be selling these apples? If what you said is true about the apple’s taste, then that means these apples will cause a lot of ruckus over at the market. And besides, it isn’t the season for apples just yet. They will wonder how you managed to get these apples to bloom and bear fruit in spring," Bam suggested.
"Is it that bad?" Curaj asked.
"Yes. I might not be too familiar with the economy of the humans but I understood a bit from Boss’s words last year and how the shipping process works. I suggest that whatever we harvested today from the apple tree should instead be used by you and use it to make some artisan products. We knew a bit of recipe that we could teach Boss about making some artisan products that use apples. My wife also knows a few dishes that use apples as well. I heard you want to practice cooking so with these many apples, I can say that you might as well use them to master it."
Elaina’s ears perked up as soon as she heard that Bam and his family knew some artisan product recipes that they were willing to teach her. Considering that artisan products are quite pricey, creating artisan products might be a bit more beneficial decision than selling them as it is. Not only does she gain recipes for these said products, but she will also further the progression of the locked page of the book related to cooking.
There is no need for her to think too much. The answer is clear.
