A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods -
Chapter 219: Cold Days
Chapter 219: Cold Days
"ACHOOO!"
Wiping the snot that poked out of her nose, Princess Margaux shivered as she curled herself further inside the blanket.
The room is warm and comfortable, it’s just that the occasional cold breeze flowing from the gaps of the closed window suddenly penetrates through the room and chills all of her being.
She wasn’t complaining that the situation in her room was bad. She liked it more than the spacious bedroom she had back in the castle. The little room enough for her to move around and put some furniture of her own is one of the things that she hoped that she would get as a room. Unfortunately, her request was denied as remodeling one part of the palace by shortening its length is something that her parents do not agree with.
As for why she doesn’t like it, she doesn’t like to feel it too empty for her feelings. Although born rich, Princess Margaux is not a materialistic girl. Whenever there were parties, she would try to wear her old dresses only to be revoked by her mother about it and then receive a new one for the party.
Favorite dresses? She have plenty of them. But she only wore most of them once with them getting the stashed inside the wardrobe for eternity, never seeing the light once again. It would be lucky if she managed to wear one dress twice and she is not exaggerating about it. She can only count them with one hand considering that she only managed to do so after giving a tantrum.
With her staying on the farm, not only is she free to wear whatever she wants, but she can also repeat wearing the same outfit multiple times without the need of someone who will stop her from doing so.
WOOOSH!
Despite the window remaining closed, the wind seems to find a good way to pass through the cracks of the window and torture her with the cold.
"AGH!"
Pissed, despite being in her pajamas, she grab her blanket, turned off the heater in her room, and proceed to go downstairs. The wafting aroma of the freshly brewed coffee wanders through her nose. She doesn’t like coffee back when she was in the palace due to the pungent smell but for some reason, she is fine smelling it now. She even finds it nice in the nose contrary to her usual reaction.
"Good morning Princess. Oh? You looked pissed," Julia smiled as she currently sips coffee while watching the two babies currently sleeping peacefully in their cribs.
"Morning Miss Julia. Did Miss Elaina go out early?"
"Yeah. She said she had some urgent stuff to finish. After giving Curaj and the Feys their instructions for today’s work, Elaina heads off somewhere, presumably, to the dungeon’s farm."
"I am amazed by Miss Elaina’s dedication, especially in this weather. It’s really cold," Princess Margaux muttered as she headed down the stairs before heading straight to the front of the chimney and putting it over her body covering herself with only her face currently showing from the blanket. "Aaaah~ this is great..."
"You have gotten addicted to the chimney now, Princess. Don’t get too close or the embers might suddenly jump to your skin and burn you in the process," Julia warned.
"Thanks for the warning. Still, the warmth here is much better than the warmth coming from a regular heater."
"I agree. The feeling is just different," Julia nodded in agreement.
Then, the two went silent. Only the sound of the burning wound constantly creating sparks and flames to give warmth to the whole room is currently breaking the silence.
"Miss Julia..."
"Hmmm?"
"Are you sure you don’t want to focus on creating medicines and potions?" Princess Margaux asked.
"You mean becoming a licensed Alchemist and Apothecary?" Julia frowned.
"Yes."
Julia chuckled.
"Despite the blessing I received from the Goddess of Medicine, my role is clear and I am not going to just abandon my original duty just because I got a good opportunity to do it. And I am not in a rush to do things. I would rather master magic than be stuck on a crafting table and research table."
"But didn’t Miss Elaina already give you an opportunity?"
"She did. But then...who will be taking care of her?"
"Huh?" Princess Margaux was confused.
"If not for Sister Elaina, I wouldn’t be here. The reason I have gotten used to wearing a maid outfit rather than my regular clothes, is that I am devoted to becoming the personal maid of Sister Elaina. She might treat me as someone who is close to her and more than a servant but I also know where my position is. I will remain as a loyal servant and younger sister figure of Sister Elaina."
Princess Margaux has a little information regarding their relationship. Elaina and Julia are not related by blood nor they are distant relatives from far away. Julia is someone that Elaina picked up before she became an empress. Ever since then, she followed Elaina wherever she went until the time she was here.
But does she plan to remain here without utilizing her capabilities and showing it to the world?
"I can tell what you are thinking, Princess. Yes, I may be someone who will remain by Miss Elaina, but I will not remain cooped up in here."
"You plan to leave?"
"It’s not really a proper departure as I will be returning after my job is done."
"Your job?"
Julia snapped her fingers and a book appeared out of thin air and she waved it to Princess Margaux.
"A final assignment that my Master gave me. I will be leaving once the twins are old enough to stand up and help Sister in my stead but I am not worried. It might come sooner than later."
"Have you told Miss Elaina about this?" Princess Margaux asked.
"She didn’t say anything, but I can tell she already has a hunch."
Julia bitterly smiled. She can’t say that she is going on a pilgrimage that will take a few years before she will return. A final task that even she has no idea how arduous it would be. A destiny she cannot escape.
"Princess Margaux. You will be also leaving from here in the future as well. I know that you are living comfortably here, but soon enough, you will have to fulfill your duties as the Princess of the kingdom. The people already know you but it is up to you to build your prestige and renown for the people."
Princess Margaux was stunned but she couldn’t say anything. Julia is right. Just like her, she will also leave and perform her duties as a princess. Just because she wanted to be lazy, doesn’t mean she can run away from the responsibilities.
"Anyways, Princess, that should be enough. We should have our breakfast now. Even if it is cold doesn’t mean we need to just disregard breakfast and lounge around the chimney."
Julia immediately stopped the conversation and quickly shifted the topic successfully. Princess Margaux paused for a bit before she nodded and stood up, putting away her blanket on the floor, and headed to the kitchen.
"What’s for breakfast?"
"Hencluckle egg fried rice and some toast. I heard that even if it is cold, good fried rice can warm your body even without the need for soup."
...
...
...
"Wow...I don’t know how long has it been since the Elevator has functioned but I am surprised it is still working fine and still doing well."
Elaina headed out from the elevator as she got out from the fifth floor and back to the top floor. She turned from where she emerged and this time, an elevator was now present for her to access.
"This elevator has buttons that range by multiples of five. Which means this elevator can carry me back and forth from here to the fifth floor up to the hundredth floor if I reach that far."
She didn’t guess it, she could see on the elevator how there were multiple buttons to press. Elevators have only a little and they usually are only available at tall buildings. But what does a mine with an elevator mean?
It means the mine is deep and an elevator is what was needed to reach a certain floor quickly enough. The only problem is that it doesn’t stop on floors not part of the multiples of five, which means floors two up to four are not applicable.
Not only that, but she can’t access floors beyond floor 5. Which means she cannot access the remaining floors.
"I see now. The elevator itself wanted me to personally descend there with my effort without access to the elevator. Once I reach that floor, that is when the floor will be available for me to access on this elevator."
She still couldn’t believe it. What wonders would be available in that place for Elaina to explore? She is not sure, however, whoever designed it, clearly have a good consideration to future users while not effectively giving access to it with convenience.
