Chapter 208: Snow Man

Elaina’s sense of danger is very high. It has been trained since she was still a kid and without it, she might have been mauled by various monsters back then and without it, she would not be standing here and become a mother of two adorable children.

So now that her sensors of danger have been driving her crazy, Elaina can tell that something is going to happen. And from the looks of it, the floating white balls she saw in the sky were the ones that would cause it.

"Princess Margaux, can you scan the surroundings if there are any hostile entities around?"

"Pardon?" Princess Margaux was confused by Elaina’s words.

"Just do it, something is happening and I do not like it.

Hearing the urgency in Elaina’s voice, Princess Margaux started to scan the surroundings. At first, she thought there was nothing but after a while, her face contorted into a frown.

"Oh no...we have a hostile. And it is near here. Based on the reading, it is a monster. Miss Elaina..."

"I know, Curaj, make sure she is protected in case something happens. If danger escalates, be sure to go back home. Don’t worry about me, I will be fine. Here, take this extra stone from Julia so that you don’t need me traversing back home in the snow."

"Are you going to be okay, Boss?" Curaj asked with worry.

"I will be fine. Once something happens, be sure to warn everyone. I will try to deal with the enemy preemptively."

After talking with the two, Elaina slips through the crowd and immediately heads to the area where there are fewer people. With the snow all around, the only area populated right now is the town square. Elaina needed an elevation seeing that the hostile enemy was currently floating in the sky.

"[Elaina, be careful. Based on what we can see from here, that is a Snow Man. It’s not the same snowman that kids build during winter, it is a monster spawn that exists in cold regions and continents and is known for their capabilities of creating small-scale blizzards. They are also known to be manhunters as well so don’t underestimate it. It is a dangerous monster that even I would not suggest taming that one. You need to dispatch it, dear Elaina.]" The Goddess of Taming sent Elaina a message.

"Good to know," Elaina said before jumping to one of the roofs of the buildings nearby. It wasn’t tall enough but it should be fine for Elaina as a boost of elevation.

Holding her sword’s hilt, she readies her legs as she locks her eyes on the monster called the Snow Man.

The monster has yet to notice Elaina as it is focused on observing the situation below, allowing Elaina to make a surprise attack.

Elaina jumped as high as she could and unsheath her sword to the scabbard before slicing through the Snow Man. The monster was caught off guard it was hit before it could react, wounding it in the process.

She managed to land safely on the nearby rooftop building after her stunt, but her effort paid off as the enemy was now focused on her.

Now that the monster is ready to attack Elaina, the gods also manage to have a good look at the monster and they are surprised.

"What the...aren’t these variants of Snow Man already extinct?!]" the God of Farming exclaimed.

"[Yeah, I can’t believe it either! The extinct original! But how come it is still alive?! I thought it went extinct after the Ice Lord was sealed back then!]"

"[Perhaps we are wrong? It must be possible that they have not gone extinct and are just waiting for the right moment to come back?]" The God of Fishing could not believe what he was seeing either.

"[Hey, what are you guys being so noisy there? I know you guys are all observing Elaina, but why are you guys too rowdy today?]" the Goddess of Medicine visited.

"[Have a look. Even we did not expect this either and perhaps you will see why we are rowdy today.]"

"[Wait...is that...but that’s impossible! It should be extinct! We made sure they would be extinct by the time we climbed to the higher realms!]" the Goddess of Medicine exclaimed, couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

"That’s why we are not sure why this is happening. It would have been fine if it was a regular Snow Man as that was not something rare and does appear from time to time but this one is not!]"

"[Do we need to send support on Elaina?]" the Goddess of Taming asked.

Elaina who is reading their messages immediately stopped them.

"I can do this just fine by myself. But if I am in big trouble, then I will allow the help. In the meantime, just leave it to me for now."

After her request, Elaina focused on the fight. The Snow Man is wounded but it is not backing out. Instead, it started to blow multiple ice shards and sent them flying straight in Elaina’s direction.

Seeing the incoming ice shards, Elaina quickly parries the ice shards as fast as she can while also charging forward to attack the Snow Man. Once she managed to parry every ice shard that was about to hit her, Elaina used her momentum, put her sword in a reverse grip, and sliced through the Snow Man.

However, the Snow Man managed to dodge her attack before blowing Elaina with a cold wind accompanied by ice shards.

Despite her bad position, Elaina quickly recovered, and made a dive flat to the floor, avoiding the blast of wind with ice shards. As soon as the cold wind was gone, Elaina stood up and started swinging her sword around.

The Snow Man became wary after Elaina started swinging her sword so it decided to fly into the sky but that was exactly what Elaina wanted to do. Before it could fully activate its flight, Elaina jumped into the air, catching up through the Snow Man. Grabbing the entity in its neck...or what appears to be its neck and proceed to slam it back straight to the floor.

Elaina’s actions were unpredicted by the Snow Man and tried to recover but Elaina didn’t even let it do so as she came crashing down with her sword already aiming down at the Snow Man lying on the floor.

CRACK!

Wherever Elaina landed and stabbed her sword at the Snow Man, a loud crack that resembled a crack from a glass cracking to pieces caused the Snow Man to scream that even the people below the Town Square heard the squeal.

The scream was so loud that Elaina had to cover her ears. She is not sure if her ears are bleeding but she soon realizes that the Snow Man started floating in the air with her sword still stuck on its body.

"Damn it, my sword!"

"[Elaina! Find any cover! The Snow Man is about to perform its self-destruction!]"

Hearing this, Elaina looked around and saw the door ajar that led downstairs to the building. Elaina didn’t care what happened next and rushed towards the door before closing it.

BOOM!

A loud explosion and multiple fragments of sharp objects started to rain in the vicinity of the surroundings. Not only that but it also freezes the entire area moderately, encasing a few areas in ice.

On the other hand, the explosion that happened can be felt on the Town Square. It was like a bomb that exploded nearby as the shock caused everyone to fall over to the floor. Not only that but the heaters that are providing heat all over the Town Square exploded and stopped functioning.

Just like what happened nearby in the vicinity of the explosion, the surroundings of the town square froze. But since it wasn’t too near, the freezing that happened wasn’t too bad. But many of the people in the Town Square got injured in the process.

Princess Margaux and Curaj were uninjured by the process as they left before things got really bad. But they didn’t go too far. The explosion’s damage reached them but Curaj crushed the stone preemptively before the damage happened and the little heat barrier immediately protected them from the explosion.

As for Elaina, she slowly opened the door that was now ice cold once more and the surroundings of the rooftop were covered in ice. It didn’t freeze the entire place fully but the frost spikes around are still signs that it got frozen just recently.

The Snow Man who caused the explosion is seen dead with only its tattered clothes and the sword that was stuck in it. The sword has been frozen but it isn’t destroyed and it remained intact so far.

Elaina sighed in relief retrieved her sword and picked up the tattered clothes of the monster earlier. She didn’t get to kill it instantly, but she is still thankful that the enemy is finally dead.

"Gods, I needed some context regarding this Snow Man. It seems you people know that monster earlier. Its presence and its capabilities of destruction are not something to be scoffed at and I needed to know more to deal with this new enemy. I don’t want my farm to be destroyed in the process by that monster.
