Chapter 205: Final Harvests Before Winter

After the expedition that is done by Elaina and her grandparents, the designation level of the dungeon has been changed. Although the beginner adventurers are still allowed in the dungeon, they are not allowed past the illusion barrier for their safety. Those who have passed the prerequisite to dive into the labyrinth will be allowed to join and fight there.

Not only that but when the metric machine was brought out to measure the depth of the labyrinth, the Adventurer’s Guild was shocked after seeing that the dungeon was very deep, much deeper compared to the one they call the "deepest labyrinth", dethroning it in the process.

Aside from its depth, its changing dungeon floors are troublesome as well. No single party can exist on one dungeon floor which means, only a single party can explore one dungeon room while the others will be in another area entirely. Everyone is on edge while the expert adventurers start to prepare to explore and become the pioneers in exploring the very dungeon itself and the Adventurer’s guild encourages them to do it to ensure that monsters will not break out anytime soon and destroy the barrier that has yet to be repaired.

On the other hand, the one who should be making her moves to repair the barrier, Elaina, has been busy harvesting the crops. Winter is almost here and Elaina can’t afford to just let the crops catch winter and freeze up. They will go bad once the next season rolls over.

The field is full of stuff to harvest. Even the grapes already have their fruits harvested. Elaina plans to ask Jacob to make a few kegs that she can use to store grape juice and ferment them for wine. Since the harvest for the grapes is good, Elaina divided the grapes that would be converted to grape juice and the rest that were good quality to be sold as fruits. It is great for winter and some might even have some good use for it for winter since many said that grapes are good for making various sweets. Elaina only knows how to make raisins and jams on it so she has no idea how it should be done.

The Hay is also quite plenty and would last long enough until winter for the cows. Because the cows have no barn just yet, a makeshift room for the cows was made. It isn’t as good as a real barn, but it will make do at the moment while Jacob has yet to build the barn and silo. The Hay will be temporarily stored inside the storage bag until the silo is done.

Wheat is also quite abundant and thanks to the quick-growing wheat seeds that she bought from the ledger, this should be the fourth harvest this season so far and Elaina can use this for making flour and making various food in the future using flour. And as for the byproduct, the straw, it is a good way fuel source for winter. They don’t need it for creating houses made of straw now but having it as a fuel source for winter is not a bad thing and with Elaina having a lot of stock, it is a good way to have something to burn during the cold season.

Yams and Pumpkins are also showing great harvests and even the leafy green crops like bok choy are also giving quite some great yields Elaina can say that she will not have any problem with gold and food this upcoming winter.

"Boss, the harvest is great this year once again!" Bam praised the baskets full of the harvest they had this year. It is quite a lot and even Elaina didn’t expect to have this much. It just proves that even without her intervention, the Feys are masters in their craft and the quality of the crops is just top-tier.

"These harvests wouldn’t be like this without you guys. Everyone’s effort for this is highly appreciated and I will be able to provide some bonus as well," Elaina said as she handed the Fey family their share of food.

"Thanks for these, Boss. Are you planning to plant some winter crops, boss?" Pam asked.

"Not at the moment. I will just let the field have some good rest for this year so that during spring, we can boost its soil quality. We didn’t do any crop rotations at all so it will be bad if all of the soil’s nutrients are gone for good. And besides, I will have to tend to the dungeon field this time around so that the barrier that has been waning will return to its former form. It would be bad if the monsters started to come out and attack the farm just like during the Kobold attacks."

"You mean, the one that you and your grandparents found yesterday? Is true, boss? That the place has four fields that have four individual seasons separated?" Pam asked.

"Yep, that’s the one, but because it will be full of people left and right, I will only work alone in that place. I can’t ask for help there for you guys so take this chance to have a good rest this winter instead. Treat it as some sort of vacation. Don’t worry, you guys will still be given your payment so you guys don’t need to be saddened with this."

"Thanks, boss, but we will not work for free. Since the cattle still need some tending and I don’t think the boy, Curaj can do all of that without our help. His hands have been full lately from the cows so I don’t think we will be taking much of a break."

"Suit yourselves, guys. I am not forcing you guys to work, you know? But thanks anyway. You guys should be free to work and rest this winter. You are included in this, Curaj," Elaina glanced at Curaj.

"What? Me included?"

"Yes. You have done an exceptional job so far and I can tell that you are hardworking. And thanks to your efforts, the cows are also in good condition as well.’

Curaj blushed a bit and smiled hearing the praise. For the first time in his life, praise like this from a job well done is something he has not received ever since his parents died. So hearing this from other people made him feel proud of his work.

"Thank you very much, Boss! Don’t worry, I will continue to work hard for the farm. If you need some muscles, then don’t forget to call me, I can do the lifting!"

Elaina nodded in satisfaction. After a few words with everyone, Elaina stored all of them in the storage bag for safekeeping. A storage room would be great but since they don’t have any places that can store them without causing them to rot immediately, the storage bag helps a lot on this one.

Looking at the calendar dates of the Almanac, the calendar already labeled the next day as the Festival and it seems that during the afternoon, the first snow will start to fall which means an early winter is about to arrive soon.
