Chapter 199: The Meeting of the Elders

The situation in Darcero Kingdom’s female farmer has been joyous after the recent successful delivery of the twins and now they are currently enjoying life peacefully on their farm. On the other hand, things in Luminiera Kingdom have become really bad.

The people of Luminiera Kingdom have become restless and angry at the current Emperor’s behavior. He might not be doing anything for the people to get them angry, but that is exactly what he was doing. Ignoring the populace. It was like he lost all of his motivation to continue ruling the land. Many of the elders who also supported the Emperor who were previous supporters and helpers when the Emperor’s father was still holding the throne were getting tired of handling the situation without the help of the emperor himself. There’s only so much the elders can do compared to when the Emperor does things himself and carrying it all is something that the Elders can’t keep on doing.

While this is happening, the church seems to take advantage of this and is now offering goodwill to the people and is actively doing many campaigns here and there for the populace that many people have started to bite on. Many still are skeptical about them but with the situation worsening in Luminiera Kingdom as time passes by, even some of them have limited patience.

Those who prefer to avoid dealing with the church choose to leave the kingdom entirely and live somewhere in the other kingdoms that would be much better than their current situation. Of course, not all are capable of leaving and starting anew so most would just choose to swallow their pride and follow the church even if it is against their wishes.

At the moment, the Elders are currently having a meeting that is independent from the presence of the Emperor. The only one who is close to the emperor who is also participating in this matter is none other than Selena. Due to the recent behavior of Alfred these past few months, she started to grow impatient and even a bit irritable at him. She has no idea what is happening to him but she wants him to stop from this matter and face the situation they are in, and not just run away from it.

Currently, they are hearing the report that Selena had from the observation she had the past few weeks from the Emperor. Although she loves Alfred, she doesn’t like the current Alfred. He is not the Alfred she wanted a few years ago and she silently blames this to her sister.

"...At the moment, Emperor Alfred has been busy with the current businesses related to the mines that my sister once handled."

The old men sighed and shook their heads. The leader of the Elders decided to speak after hearing the report.

"Based on the reports and all of the observations we have received, it seems the Emperor has slowly abandoned his duty as the Emperor and started to bury more to the work that his former wife handled before their divorce. As much as I want to sympathize and let him have his private time to recover, it has been too long since his divorce. He needs to move on as this matter involves the kingdom and not just himself."

A pessimistic Elder shook his head. "Ha, seeing the Emperor like this makes me regret making him the emperor. I was right in my gut when I told you all before that he is not fit to be the successor due to his behavior and weak upbringing. If this continues on, he will bring this kingdom to ruin."

The Hopeful Elder shook his head and objected to the words of the pessimistic Elder. "Well, you should stop being pessimistic. This is just a phase and you lot know that he loves his wife deeply and having the divorce is something that has broken his heart. He will need time to recover from this and that is why we have to keep the kingdom running until he comes back in full recovery."

The pessimistic Elder rolled his eyes after hearing the sentiment. "Bah, did you really think I care about your sentiments? And what do you mean we should continue what we are doing? You of all people should know, that this shouldn’t be our work from the very beginning. This is something that we should only be supporting to do and let the emperor do his job for once. Call me disrespectful or whatever but I only follow what I think would be a much better fit for the situation. The Emperor needs to snap out of it."

Many of the other elders nodded in support of the pessimistic Elder’s words that even the Hopeful elder couldn’t find a flaw to make a comeback from it.

The leader of the Elders shook his head. "Enough bickering. We are not gathered here to perform a debate, we are here to ensure that the kingdom will not collapse due to the lack of action the emperor has been doing nowadays. We needed a good reason for him to snap back and work to make the situation favorable to us."

As everyone went silent, the one introverted elder who only listens but does most of the heavy lifting from the work decided to speak to the meeting, suggesting something that they didn’t expect.

"I heard reports from my men who are workers in the Darcero Kingdom that the former empress has finally given birth to a healthy boy and girl. Perhaps we can use these pieces of news to make the Emperor return to his senses and instead rebuild the kingdom again. Make him use his newly born children as a motivation?"

"Huh? Are you insane? You know that even if they are royalty blood, they are a big taboo for all of us as twins are the harbinger of misfortune! And you dare to mention those wretched twins in this talks?" the Hopeful elder angrily lashed.

"Wait, wait. Let’s hear this one out," for once, the pessimistic Elder seems to be thinking something.

"I never said we should encourage him to take them away from their mother. Instead, we should use this as a way for him to realize that he is making the kingdom suffer for his actions. We will use the chance that his father’s instincts kick in and let him hope that he will reunite with his family again. We can’t have that happen, and besides, now that we have already known that Miss Selena here is the mistress of the Emperor, we can also take advantage of this and let Miss Selena take the reigns and control him so that he returns to his previous vigor while you also lead him to your palms, what do you all say?"

"What about Miss Selena’s opinion though? Are we just gonna ignore it?"

The leader of the Elders looked at Selena who seemed to be chilling.

"No worries. I for once, also agreed with this plan as well. Despite using the twins as leverage, it is a very high chance of success.
