Chapter 170: Stalker Strikes
Chapter 170: Stalker Strikes
The three went to the kitchen and saw Elaina’s recent cooking already sitting. Elaina put a note on the refrigerator for the three to see.
"Just reheat the food if it has gotten cold"
Julia proceeded to check the pot and inside was meat and vegetable soup. It’s not an actual dish but just an experimental dish that Elaina has done with the ingredients present. Julia first test tasted the dish and thankfully, it seemed that the food was edible and Elaina didn’t put any weird vegetables that should not be mixed into a soup.
"Let’s just reheat this for a bit before we eat," Julia said as one of her fingers ignited flames before she stoked a fire to the stove and let the flames reheat the cold soup.
"I don’t think I needed to join and eat along with you two, I mean, I already had my lunch packed earlier this morning for me to eat this lunchtime," Curaj tried to weasel out of the situation but got stopped by Julia with a big grin on her mouth.
"No, no Curaj. Just because you are different doesn’t mean you need to isolate yourself from us. How can you even make a friend if you are the one who will occasionally do the deed of pushing them away? No, that can’t do. Eat with us and let’s build that friendship from the bottom to the top, I don’t take no for answers.
Curaj couldn’t say anything to Julia. He can only sigh about this and agree. He doesn’t want to be there mainly because of Princess Margaux. He knows she is cool and kind enough, but he doesn’t want to ruin the grace of the Princess with his presence. He is also afraid of all the backlash the princess might receive if they knew she was interacting with a halfling like him and he didn’t want to say something that could potentially cause him to lose his head in the process.
Still, it does feel nice that he is being regarded as a friend rather than something else or an eyesore.
After reheating the soup, Julia brought the soup to the two who were waiting and they began eating. Princess Margaux was surprised since the soup does look strange from all the variety of vegetables mixed in but it somehow mixes well and it does taste good. Although not world-class taste, she can tell it is great. As for Curaj, he licked his plate clean.
"Hoho, easy there, Curaj. You are not getting chased or will be running out of food, so ease up for a bit, yeah? Here, have some water," Julia grinned.
"Yeah. Don’t be in a rush. There’s plenty of food and it’s not like we will be angry if you ask for seconds," Princess Margaux smiled.
"Ahem...sorry about that... it’s just that it is pretty rare for me to be able to eat proper food. I only managed to get decent food recently because of my wage. If not for that, I might still be scrounging for leftovers."
"No! That is not healthy! You should eat properly! I heard from my brother that if you don’t properly eat anything, your muscles will start to shrink! And that would cost you your strength in the process!" Princess Margaux argued.
Hearing this, Julia started laughing hard. "Hahahahaha! That’s absurd, Princess! Although it is true that not eating properly can cost you your energy for the day, it doesn’t cause your muscles to shrink. Of course, if your body fat is almost nonexistent anymore, then your muscles will eventually shrink but if you still have fat, that will not be a big problem. And seeing Curaj’s big body here, not eating regularly won’t cost him his muscles. That’s just your brother’s obsession with bodybuilding."
"Wait...really?"
"Yep. Unless you starve for a few days without eating anything, then by then, your body will start to consume fat then lastly, your muscles, but that would only happen in extreme scenarios where you can’t eat anything at all."
Princess Margaux felt embarrassed after saying it resolutely earlier, only finding out that it wasn’t real.
"Uh...princess... it’s alright, really. Thanks to Boss Elaina, I am getting to eat properly now. If not for her and her help, then I would have trouble the same."
"I see. Miss Elaina is really the best, right? She is already pretty and strong and yet you can depend on her like she is your real sister," Princess Margaux admired Elaina.
"Right? I can sing praises to my Sister all day long and I still won’t be done doing that. But let’s not continue doing that and stop talking too much about Sis. Sis Elaina does not like it too much if we talk behind her back. She seems uncomfortable with it."
The two nodded. The three are all grateful to Elaina but they can’t do their absolute best to sing praises for her, but if they are given the chance, perhaps they will start to do it as the one who will lead the way.
After the three were done for lunch, Julia remained inside to wash the dishes before they got to fully pile up. Curaj and Princess Margaux on the other hand decided to continue working on the trellis and set them up further.
"Princess, it’s alright. You can just sit there and relax, I will continue the work by myself."
"No way. Also, stop calling me Princess because, from the looks of it, we are just the same age. I heard from Julia that compared to regular demi-humans, you age like the humans."
"Yes. But is it alright? You are a royalty and I heard that royalties took offense if they are called by commoners like me casually. I don’t want to lose my head," Curaj said with fear.
"Hehe. If you are so worried, then just call me casually whenever we are alone. Just call me Margaux. Calling me Princess feels a bit suffocating at times."
"Well...if you say so...Margaux..." Curaj is still feeling uneasy.
"Hehe, that’s great, Curaj. Anyways, let’s get this done quickly. I didn’t realize that setting up these things...what do you call this again?"
"Trellis."
"Yeah...trellis. I didn’t know this was so hard to set up. Looks like Miss Elaina hired the right person to do the job. You seemed to be doing fine with it."
"I have worked in one of the orchards back in the hometown where I previously lived. Setting up and repairing trellis was one of my jobs back then so I already have experience in regards to doing this kind of stuff.
The two worked hard and with Princess Margaux helping out a lot, the work progressed and soon, ended a lot faster."
"Finally done!" The two happily sat down on the ground as the Trellis were done. The Feys approached the trellis and started to rate the quality of the work.
"Hmm, the work here is pretty great. The trellis won’t be broken so easily by wind and it won’t just collapse once the vines of the grapes start to climb. Great job, I would say. You two go ahead and have some rest, you guys deserve it."
The two nodded and they were about to leave when Curaj suddenly felt a presence somewhere. It wasn’t a spirit or any sort of paranormal thing. It’s the presence of a human. As soon as he realized and somehow, had some suspicion on one angle, Curaj grabbed a rock and all of a sudden, threw it above the tree, straight like a softball, being thrown to the batter.
The Feys and Princess Margaux were surprised by what Curaj did but the guy courageously did it with a serious look on his face. In just a few seconds, though, one scream echoed in the surroundings and a device fell from the sky before breaking after landing on the ground.
"Margaux, get behind me. Someone is here..." Curaj readily protects Princess Margaux behind his back as he looks around for anyone hiding. The one he just hit managed to scramble away and escape by sacrificing the device that fell. However, he can still feel the presence of that person. He is still around.
"Mr. Bam, Mrs. Poe, can you guys tell Boss Elaina that we needed some backup? A soldier or two to help? It seems someone is currently doing some surveillance illegally on our farm without anyone’s permission to do so."
Hearing this, the two nodded and rushed to the location where Princess Tabatha and Elaina were doing their training session.
"Surveillance?" Princess Margaux was confused.
"Don’t be alarmed. It seems that those stalkers that tried to infiltrate the farm are currently monitoring you. We should get to a safer place rather than stay in here."
Hearing this, Princess Margaux shivered and felt fear once more. Curaj noticing this hurriedly hugged Princess Margaux and carried her.
"My apologies. Drastic measures require drastic actions."
He sweeps up Princess Margaux easily. Although she was surprised, Curaj was gentle enough to keep Princess Margaux fine.
"Don’t worry, until everyone comes to help us, I will protect you from them," Curaj resolutely said, causing Princess Margaux to blush profusely.
