Chapter 116: Intruder Alert!

Shardu’s ears perked up. Despite being a cat, Shardu’s senses are quite similar to a dog combined with a cat’s senses, making Shardu quite a good combination of both animals. And because Shardu was entrusted with an important task, Shardu is always on guard despite looking asleep.

This little cat already made an exception for the Wandering Merchant who only comes once in a while, the goddess who lives on the stream, and the Feys who live near the stream with the addition of the little pixie in the mix. However, the rest of that will be a different story. Anyone else who is not part of the farm and is not included in the people who are allowed to go into the farm is going to be unwelcome.

And right now, Shardu detects a presence currently looming on the gate. Shardu still didn’t spring up to the action as the figure is still currently standing on the gate. However, Shardu is already getting ready in case the person behind the gates would then try to breach inside.

Shardu looked at Zaza who was also aware of the intruder currently nearby. It just didn’t move just yet as it is waiting for its next move.

It took a few minutes for the intruder but soon enough, it leaped through the gates with ease. Sensing it leaps through the gates without even trying to climb it means that the intruder is not an ordinary individual or not human. Shardu is already aware of different species living with the humans so it is aware that there might be some of them who will try to break into homes like this and it seems the intruder this time is one of them.

Shardu looked at Zaza and it immediately knew what to do. Zaza immediately sat down in front of the doorway while Shardu immediately went to action and started to get close to the intruder.

Using the surrounding plants as cover, Shardu moved from plant to plant without making a sound or movement to the plants Shardu was using for cover as Shardu got near the target. After reaching an ideal area where Shardu can both hide and perform the ambush, Shardu lies in wait as the target approaches.

The target is not aware of Shardu who is now waiting to perform a stealth attack. The intruder’s attention is currently directed to something else, allowing Shardu to remain undetected with relative ease.

While the intruder continued to look around, Shardu remained still, waiting for the intruder to get near Shardu’s range. And it seems Shardu doesn’t need to take long to wait as a few moments later, the intruder walks near the plant Shardu was hiding under. As soon as the intruder got close, Shardu launched its attack and quickly leaped out of the bushes and scratched the intruder multiple times directly to the face.

"Aah!" the intruder screamed as Shardu delivered a few attacks which caused the intruder to flinch and back off a bit causing the intruder to trip over and fall to the stream.

Shardu made a quick maneuver to avoid falling into the water as well and quickly returned to the ground and watched over the intruder as the intruder tried to recover from Shardu’s surprise attack.

Due to the commotion that is happening, the Harvest Goddess who is currently sleeping with Mier woke up and angrily lashes out. She knows Elaina and the others are out so she is not in a happy mood that someone else is currently causing a ruckus on the farm.

"Shardu! If you are playing around, don’t play nearby, instead, do it somewhere else! You know that we have a baby here sleeping, and you are messing up with the current peace the stream has right now!"

Shardu looked at the Harvest Goddess with a bored look before nudging its nose over to the struggling intruder who was still trying to get up. The Harvest Goddess sighed and used her abilities to lift the intruder using the water she was controlling. Despite being the Harvest Goddess, that doesn’t mean she can only do magic related to that, she can also control the water since that is her only way even to open her portal to enter her normal abode inside the stream.

"Urgh! Let me go!" the intruder screamed, revealing herself to be a female intruder. She cannot be recognized due to her clothes that cover her entire body including her face and head. And since she was covered from head to toe, the ones that got damaged from Shardu’s claw attacks were only her clothes. Her body is still fine and has no wounds so far. The only reason she fell was because she was so surprised by Shardu’s attack and got outbalanced as a result.

"I see now. No wonder Shardu started to get agitated when this little cat did not even do anything near the stream. An intruder is messing up the farm."

"Guh...bastards!" the intruder continued to struggle away but the Harvest Goddess didn’t let her go.

"Who are you? Why did you intrude in this place? Are you one of the goons sent by Elaina’s parents to sabotage this farm again?" the Harvest Goddess interrogates the intruder. After what happened last time, she didn’t want to make the same mistake back then that caused her to get damaged.

"I don’t know who you are talking about!" the intruder tried to wriggle out but she still couldn’t move with how tight the water wrapped her body.

Using her abilities, the Harvest Goddess controlled the water and forcefully removed the cover in her head to reveal who it was. Ripping it off and revealing the identity of the intruder.

The Harvest Goddess frowned the moment she saw who it was.

"A merfolk? This is a big surprise even for me since you folks are living in the sea, what are you doing here and invading a farm that has nothing to do with the sea?" the Harvest Goddess asked.

"I can tell, she is here. My daughter is here! Where did you bring her?! Give her back!"

The Harvest Goddess frowned after hearing the words of the female merfolk. She just realized that the reason this woman breaks inside the farm is to find her daughter. Coincidentally, she also has Mier with her who is currently sleeping back in her domain. She can tell that this isn’t just a mere coincidence or anything like that.

The Harvest Goddess is a bit conflicted a bit about this matter and who could say this woman is Mier’s mother? Where is her proof? As much as she wanted to show Mier to this woman, the Harvest Goddess decided to take a neutral stance on this. Because this woman is still a suspect, she doesn’t want to assume immediately that this woman is indeed Mier’s mother. She needed to prove herself to be the real one and for that, she will need the help of Elaina who is currently away at the moment.

"Haaa...as much as I don’t want to do this, I can’t just make decisions by myself. And you are intruding as well, so until the real owner of this farm comes back, then I will restrain you for now."

"Wait, what? Then who are you?"

"Me? I am the resident Harvest Goddess who is currently living and residing on this stream. If not for the commotion you had earlier with Shardu, then I wouldn’t even bother to talk to you right now. But because you decided to become an intruder, until she comes back, you will remain to be restrained here for quite some time then.

Hearing that the female intruder could only struggle as the Harvest Goddess proceeded to restrain her with water and encase her with vines that formed itself into a sturdy cage made of sturdy vines.

The Harvest Goddess looked at Shardu and nodded. "Good work Shardu. I will tell Elaina your marvelous exploit just now. Rest easy and go back to where you are currently staying.

Shardu nodded in response and after stretching for a bit, Shardu returned to the front porch with Zaza. Although Zaza didn’t do anything in particular, Zaza still did his work of blocking the entrance of the house. Zaza returned to sleep after knowing that the trouble had finally passed on.

As for Shardu, the little cat started grooming the fur that got wrinkled earlier. Shardu felt a little triumphant after successfully repelling the intruder with ease. Shardu is also proud of the praise Shardu received from the Harvest Goddess herself. Knowing the Harvest Goddess, and receiving her compliments is something Shardu can take pride in.

Shardu scanned the area for a bit to ensure that aside from the first intruder, there would be no more second intruder who would suddenly come and barge in without Elaina’s permission. After finalizing and knowing that there were no more intruders, Shardu nodded in delight before going back to sleep. Yes, Shardu did a job well done for today.
