A Serpent's Tale
Chapter 221: Resolved

Chapter 221: Resolved

I saw half of the hooded robed figures then dragged Thalor away whilst the rest of them just dispersed.

I then addressed Morrigan, "It’s fine... So long as he or someone like him isn’t in charge, everything’s fine."

"Yes... Unfortunately, whenever someone takes the top most position, they are inflicted with a curse that eats away at their minds, slowly turning them insane. We’ll sort him out soon and he’ll return to his old self once again."

"And... What is his old self?" I asked sceptically as I raised my brow.

"Well, not as deceiving as before. He has been in that seat for tens of thousands of years now. And as a Chronomancer, he’s done his best, but sometimes he just gets sent over the edge when his brain is overloaded, and that incessant curse starts to infect him fast like a parasite."

"What... Exactly does this curse do?"

"Well, not much honestly. It just greatly increases a person’s paranoia at an exponential rate until they cause their mind to implode in on itself." She said nonchalantly

"That- That’s horrible!"

"Eh, it’s more common here than you think." She just brushed it off.

"That... Just makes me even less inclined to join."

"Yeah, that goes for me too." Kronia pitched in.

"Wait what?" I turned my head to Kronia with my eyebrows scrunched up in confusion.

"They offered her a spot in the Illuminati because all Chronomancer’s are valuable to any organisation. And your responses after hearing all that is understandable. If neither of you wish to join, that’s fine."

I went silent for a bit, and Kronia did too, both of us thinking about whether we should join or not.

"I think... I don’t think I’m ready to decide that just yet..." I uttered a little depressingly. "I’ve yet to experience a normal life, and I don’t want something like being a part of all this weighing in the back of my mind at all times. I just... Don’t know if that’s what I want for me."

"That’s fine. You will always be welcome if you ever choose to take your ancestors place, as it belongs to you and you alone." She smiled kindly. At least, I think she’s smiling under that hood, I can’t really tell since it completely hides it behind a veil of shadows.

Morrigan then turned to face Kronia to see what she would say. "And what about you Kronia? Are you going to reject our offer or not? Or do you also want some time to think about it?"

"I... Need more time. It’s too soon, and I have a lot to worry about also. Plus, what exactly to I gain?"

Morrigan nodded her head in understanding. "We can discuss all that at a later date when you’re ready."

"So... What now?" I asked, now that the air had cleared up. There was still some lingering animosity, but it wasn’t permanent or anything and would fade with time.

"Well, since we have made such an egregious transgression against you, then along with your reward, we will owe you a favour, free of charge once more. Anything that you request that can be achieved will be at your command. Just say the word and it will be done."

"Oh, wow... I don’t think I’ll need THAT much from you. But thanks anyways." I thank Morrigan for her constant kindness. She must be just as old as Kronia if- *BONK* "OW!"

"You were thinking something rude about me just now, weren’t you?"

"How!? How did you know?"

"We always know. We just do." The woman said haughtily as she raised her head slightly in a slight contempt. "That aside, I still need to give you your reward, so if you have anything in mind, please do tell me."

"Uhh... Oh! There is one thing I’d like."

"And what’s that?"

"I’d like access to this place whenever I want it, so that I can come back here to either get some more funds or for the other various things in there." I asked, and not giving away much in the process.

I figured that every inheritance would give away money and even if they didn’t it wouldn’t be that surprising when they did. I also alluded to there being other things in there because it would be suspicious if money was the only thing in there.

"That’s reasonable. We’ll get you an artefact that will allow you to do that. And I assume you want it to bring you in here specifically?" She inquired.

"Yes please. I would appreciate that."

"Alright then, if that’s all, then I’ll go and get that artefact for you. Kronia, what about you?"

"I should be able to just contact Thalor about this when I’ve made a decision."

"I see. Then would you like to follow me out of here?" Morrigan asked the other lady, to which she nodded. She then turned back to me. "Traytora, do you want to come with or would you rather wait here?"

"I think I’ll wait here for now. How long will you be gone?"

"Not long, an hour or two at most."

"Yeah, I’ll wait here for now then if you wouldn’t mind."

The two of them then walked away and I went back into the treasury within my inheritance to browse it a bit more. Last time I explored the left wing, so this time I’ll explore the right one.

I spent a couple of hours in there, just browsing the halls of stuff. I found more weapons and Mana Cores, though, it would be more accurate to call them Mana Crystals, Refined Mana Crystals at that. I didn’t take any though, and in the end, after some time searching, I only took a few more sets of clothes.

Some of them were enchanted and some weren’t. Thankfully, most the ones that weren’t enchanted were still strong enough to hold up in a fight. There were a few normal clothes, but they were the most intricately designed ones, with lots of gold silver and silk.

Anyways, once I was done, I left the inheritance again and saw that someone was standing outside. And I could tell that it wasn’t Morrigan based on how this figure had a much larger stature.

"I was instructed to wait here and hand this to you." The figure said in a deep and masculine voice as he presented me with a small dark blue orb the size of a fist.

I took it from him with and curled my lips ever so slightly. "Thank you, please send my regards to Morrigan for me."

He staggered backwards a bit and stumbled over his words for a second, "Uh, ah- Who?"

"The one who instructed you to give this to me? I would assume." I answered, looking up at him with my head tilted back a little whilst squinting my eyes just a little as well.

"Y-Your welcome. Please excuse me." He bowed and then began to walk away to attend some other matters.

I looked at him walking away and wondered why he acted so weird after he handed me this orb.

Well, it’s whatever. With this orb, I can now come back here whenever I want.

And so, I headed back inside the inheritance and went into the portal gateway room, ready to leave and head back to my homeland.
