A Hospital in Another World? -
Chapter 979: The Floating City Over the Eagle’s Head
They hoped, they hoped, and the message from the Red Hawk Tribe finally came.
They hoped, they hoped, and the reinforcements from the Son of Thunder finally arrived.
The Kingdom of the Eagle awaited reinforcements like a drought longs for rain. Immediately, a Golden Eagle Warrior was dispatched, leading ten White Eagle Warriors to welcome them.
Thank heavens, they finally came. If they hadn’t arrived, the Kingdom of the Eagle would have faced the attack of the White Ghost alone, resulting in unimaginable losses:
If the Golden Eagle Warriors and the Snake Women, as well as the powers of the Eagle God and the Serpent God, were severely diminished, the Kingdom of the Eagle would no longer be able to intimidate the surrounding small city-states—
Without the ability to intimidate these small city-states, they wouldn’t be able to demand human sacrifices;
Without the ability to demand human sacrifices, they wouldn’t be able to hold grand human sacrifice ceremonies;
Without the ability to hold human sacrifice ceremonies, they couldn’t please the gods or replenish their powers...
Summon them immediately!
To show respect and to avoid any conflicts that might drive them away, the Kingdom of the Eagle specifically dispatched a senior Golden Eagle Warrior to welcome them.His name was Navater, in his sixties, with hair already half-gray, ranked just below the Golden Eagle leader. If not for a serious injury he suffered in his youth, preventing him from fully receiving the power of the Eagle God, he would have become the leader.
Even so, Navater was never impatient or angry, always cheerful and good-tempered. Half of the current generation of Golden Eagle Warriors grew up under his watch, with many personally taught by him, making him very adept at handling the mischievous youngsters.
Sending him out made everyone from the Golden Eagle leader to Chivacoatl and Tetra feel reassured:
With him in charge, surely there wouldn’t be any unnecessary offenses, right?
Navater also believed that his presence should ensure a smooth and safe reception. He led his ten subordinates, flying north, descending from the plateau, crossing forests and swamps. They completed the five-day journey in three days:
They arrived at the place where the Plague Maiden had fallen, following the directions from the Red Hawk Tribe warriors, "Look for a very, very large object that can be seen from afar. I can’t describe it well, but you’ll know it when you see it, it must be it..."
How on earth am I supposed to find it?
Are you sure it can be found?
Are you sure you won’t mistake it and provoke some high-level magical beast, ending up in a pointless fight?
Navater was full of doubts. However, the Red Hawk warrior was exhausted, collapsed after flying up the plateau, unable to be dragged or carried any further. So Navater flew thousands of miles himself, looking down from above—
And then, this warrior who had ventured into highland caves, explored dense jungles, slain venomous creatures and magical beasts, and even fought storms and giant whales at sea, took a deep, deep breath.
The thing lying on the ground was indeed as the Red Hawk warrior had described, "when you see it, you know it must be it." It lay quietly on the open ground, like a beached whale, yet larger than the largest whale;
Around it, shimmering, were things that looked like fish fins or wings, but much larger than wings. They surrounded the dark-colored "thing" as if they had built a lake around it;
Around the "lake," there were many small dots moving back and forth like ants. At a glance, they were almost unnoticeable, but on closer inspection, their powerful auras were evident—stronger than the Golden Eagle Warriors...
Navater closed his eyes, opened them, feeling the heartbeat pounding in his chest, crashing against his ribs.
Behind him, the exclamations of the White Eagle Warriors came one after another. They could no longer suppress their cries. One young man, too shocked, forgot to control his strength and plummeted from the sky—
Fortunately, his companions quickly swooped down to catch him, preventing a disaster. Navater turned back, glaring sternly at his subordinates, sternly instructing:
"These are guests with great power! We must show respect, respect, treat them as we would gods! If I find anyone showing the slightest disrespect, I will tear off their wings, strip them of their power, and make them walk back on foot!"
The White Eagle Warriors nodded vigorously. Navater slightly retracted his wings, circling in the air with his subordinates three times to ensure they had been noticed, then slowly descended.
Landing at a distance, a white deer had already run over. The young man on the white deer smiled solemnly and modestly, leaping to the ground, extending his hands towards them:
"I am Garrett Nordmark. As agreed, I have brought reinforcements—are you here to guide us? It’s been a long journey; do you need a day or two to rest before we proceed?"
"Honorable Son of the God," Navater bowed. Garrett heard laughter behind him but couldn’t turn hostile, so he kept a straight face as Navater continued:
"The White Ghost’s army has already begun climbing the plateau, approaching our capital. If possible, we hope you, our esteemed guests, can set off immediately."
"Everyone heard that, immediate departure!" A thunderous voice shouted from behind. People sprang up from all directions, rushing towards the enormous presence. Navater’s eyes widened in terror:
"Heavens, heavens—"
The sky stood up.
Or perhaps, the lake stood up.
The thing lying quietly on the ground, larger than a whale, had its surrounding, wing-like or lake-like things, one by one, slowly rising.
Rising, flying, gathering on the whale’s back, unfolding diagonally in an orderly manner. When they rose, they glowed with a pale blue light, like the first light of dawn, like the sparkling sea, reflecting the blazing sunlight.
And as the long wind blew from the sea, the raised wings or lake-like surfaces quickly filled with the wind, billowing forward.
Then, the whale opened its mouth. The people flying around it, one by one, fearlessly entered its mouth and disappeared.
"I’m going over too." Garrett walked to the white deer, turned back again, extended his arm to the gray-haired Golden Eagle Warrior, inviting him towards the floating vessel:
"Will you and your subordinates come with us? Riding the airship is much easier than flying on your own."
Navater took a step back, then another. He widened his eyes, quickly shaking his head:
"No, no—I will fly myself—no! Son of the God! Do not go! I will protect you!"
Such a huge beast! Such an enormous beast, draped in a whole sky or lake!
Twenty to thirty people with powerful auras, as strong or stronger than him, were swallowed whole without a sound... What happens if they are swallowed whole?
He rushed forward, trying to stop Garrett, to protect this crucial Son of Thunder and Plague Lord. However, Garrett smiled at him, the white deer circled by a breeze, gracefully dodging his fingertips.
The hoofbeats carried the Plague Lord swiftly into the whale’s mouth:
"Honorable Golden Eagle Warrior, please lead the way for us! Fly ahead, guide us, we will follow!"
A familiar yet greatly amplified voice boomed from the whale’s head. Navater sighed in relief, thankfully, the Plague Lord was still alive—
He waved his arm to his warriors, flapped his wings, and soared into the sky:
"Fly! Let’s fly faster! Lead the way for our esteemed guests! The capital is waiting for us!"
But no one responded. The ten White Eagle Warriors, including the youngest who had previously fallen, stood frozen on the ground, eyes wide, mouths agape enough to swallow butterflies:
"Heavens... it’s flying..."
"Eagle God above... this giant beast can fly..."
"No, it’s not a beast, it’s a city... a floating city... I thought a city floating on the sea was incredible..."
To be precise, the airship hadn’t started flying yet, just slowly, slowly lifting off. The light sails at the top filled with wind, the hull surrounded by countless strange lines, glowing brilliantly, dazzling to behold.
One person high, two people high, three people high... one tree high, two trees high...
The rustling sound rang out. Navater couldn’t see what was changing, but clearly, the connection between the beast and the earth was gradually severing. It swayed, caught the long wind, and began to move slowly forward.
Even at a slow pace, when its shadow fell over their heads, it looked like a city slowly crushing down. Just standing on the ground, enveloped by that shadow, brought an oppressive sense of suffocation.
"Fly! Fly!" The Golden Eagle Warrior’s shout snapped his subordinates out of their stupor:
"Don’t daze! Fly ahead! Do you want to be crushed to death?"
The White Eagle Warriors flapped their wings desperately, taking off. They carefully kept their distance, trying to stay as far away from the terrifying beast as possible. Yet, even so, if they flew a bit too slow, caught in the beast’s nearby airflow—
"Ah! We’re going to crash! We’re falling!"
The beast climbed slowly, moved forward slowly, climbed onto the plateau, and flew in the direction indicated by the Golden Eagle Warriors. Navater, flying with all his might, frequently looked back anxiously:
Those who could control such a giant beast, the people summoned by this Son of Thunder... could they challenge the Eagle God?
Was I wrong to lead them to the capital?
Could I change direction now and lead them straight to the White Ghost? Is it still possible?
Amid the elderly warrior’s full concerns, the air
ship moved smoothly and swiftly. In just three days, it crossed the undulating plateau and the arid desert, casting its shadow over a clear lake:
"Ahhhhhhh—"
Nothing could stop the people of the Kingdom of the Eagle from rushing outside, looking up. A colossal object like a mountain, like a city, crossed the clouds, moving slowly, stopping above their heads:
"Nevis, Magic Council, at your country’s invitation, here to provide support."
