Volume 15 Chapter 35: Scarlet’s Mother
Later in the day, Keith lay in bed, lost in thought. What should I do about this? He declared he would treat Selk's wounds, but how was he supposed to accomplish this? He only said those words to give Scarlet a peace of mind. However, this assurance was a double-edged sword.
False hope.
If he wasn't able to accomplish this, it would destroy Scarlet. However, it would ruin her if she were to accept Draezar's demands. And since she had rejected it before, the demands would be heavier. That was something he couldn't stand. His fist clenched tight, determined to see this through to the end.
That was why,
What is wrong with her? Before he could cure Selk, he needed to understand the situation. One conclusion came to mind: the woman was poisoned. The logical solution was to find a cure for her. However, he wasn't a potion maker. Could I ask Sarah? But Sarah isn't equipped to deal with this. Plus, it would take too long. Now, the next question,
What do I have in my arsenal? He needed to know what he had before working on a solution.
Selk doesn't have much time left. Instincts were signaling him death was looming over her; it was only a matter of days. His eyes closed as he thought about it. There was one thing I had over others: ingredients. He had a vast amount of ingredients and the ability to cook them.....
"You want to look for more ingredients?"
Late at night, Scarlet entered his room to converse with him. With a nod, he explained, "I have a couple of ideas on how to cure Selk. However, the ingredients I have right now aren't versed in dealing with her condition." One trait came to mind when he examined Selk: cold. From touch alone, he could tell the demon's condition was related to cold.
"If we can increase her metabolism or heat up her body, it could work." Medicinal cooking. In olden times, cooking was used as a remedy for illness. That was how some people were treated.
Chicken soup was an old example of this.
Despite this, Keith didn't have much forte in this type of cooking. However, there was an upside to all of this. Where was he? He was in none other than a magical world. Ingredients in this world have supernatural abilities.
For example, Titus’s injuries. With the power of the variant, he was capable of healing most of his wounds. Injuries could be easily cured if the ingredients were potent enough.
But for this case…
"Oh," Scarlet's eyes brightened, "If you need ingredients, then I know of a place where we can obtain them."
"That's good; we'll go tomorrow."
"Mmhmm."
The next day, they quickly headed over to the location. Scarlet brought him before a giant clinic. There was a banner featuring a beautiful flower. And the moment they entered, there were several stalls set up inside.
“Princess! Welcome to the clinic! What do you need?" Someone walked up to her.
Scarlet shook his head, “I’m here to look for some herbs.” The clinic nodded as he stated, “What types of herbs do you need?” The demon princess then turned over to Keith, where he explained, “I need something that will give the body increased body heat.” To fight cold, you would need fire in this situation.
“If you need fire, then please check these herbs.” The person then brought out a couple of items. Once he saw them, Keith started to ask the person. He slowly explained each one while the boy nodded. As he discussed, he noticed from the side that Scarlet was being bombarded by the workers here.
Keith then mumbled, “Why is Scarlet being treated like this?” It wasn't like a princess. It was more so like a goddess. It was a little frightening.
“That’s because the princess’s mother was the one who opened up the clinic."
"Really?" Now that I think about it, there was a royal emblem under it. Below the beautiful flower was a royal seal.
"She was amazing. Most of the ingredients that she found are used in this clinic. Not only that, she was the one who found so many recipes.” As the person talked, the others around nodded at his words.
Keith could tell Scarlet's mom was quite an amazing person. But there was something else he found out. Was? That was in past tense.
Scarlet and Keith headed to the castle, where Scarlet said, “So you want to know more about me?”
“Ahh,”
“I think you understand that Mother Elyndra isn’t my mother.” Tharaziel and Scarlet were half brothers, “But I do consider her as my mother as well.” Elyndra had been taking care of her all this time. Keith smiled as he patted her head, “Alright! Now, let's go home to make the dish."
