Chapter 97 - 95: The Golden Goblin King

Chapter 97: Chapter 95: The Golden Goblin King

Goblins are naturally diminutive creatures. Goblin knights may appear larger, but that is only because they have captured Seat Wolves and embedded themselves into their bodies, resulting in their imposing stature.

But the goblin in front of them was definitely no dwarf.

The size of this goblin was quite bulky, standing at about 1.8 meters tall. With its arms crossed over its chest, it stood upright like a lone spear, its eyes coldly fixating on the monster in the center. On its body, palm-sized yellow spots emerged, while on its spine, there were four protruding bone spurs in two rows.

These four bone spurs were an earthy yellow, growing from the goblin’s back, making it look as though there were four spiked swords stabbed into its back- a very odd sight indeed.

Something stirred within Su Yu. He quietly extended his left hand, intending to capture the data of this peculiar goblin with his "Perception Eye".

Luckily, these goblins were within range of the "Perception Eye" from where they were hiding. Immediately, information about this peculiar goblin appeared in Su Yu’s mind.

Name: Golden Goblin King. When the Golden Goblin fuses the power of the ’Golden Clan’ treasure within its body, it is able to sprout four golden bone spurs from its back. The Golden Goblin then evolves into a more formidable Golden Goblin King. A growing Golden Goblin King is classified as a third level beast soldier. Its four bone spurs can evolve into unique weapons, possessing power that rivals treasure weapons.

Su Yu took a sharp intake of breath. He vividly remembered mention of a Golden Goblin slain by York in Jennifer’s diary, from which the treasure map was obtained. Yet, this robust looking goblin in front of him was a more powerful Golden Goblin King that had evolved from a Golden Goblin. The bone spurs on its back were its unique weapons? What exactly were these treasure weapons, like his own "Earth Spike Ring"?

Regrettably, his "Perception Eye" could not provide him with the answers to these questions. Su Yu wanted to gather information about the peculiar "flower" at the center, but unfortunately, it was beyond the range of his "Perception Eye".

An odd flower surrounded by a horde of monsters. A truly bizarre scene.

What exactly was this "flower"? Why were these creatures greedily eyeing it, yet seemingly waiting for something?

All sorts of wild thoughts filled Su Yu’s mind. Ma Ziye, Qin Jiagui and the rest beside him were equally tense and lost in thought. Even though they knew full well that their situation was incredibly dire, their curiosity, akin to poisoning, had them hiding amongst the wild grass, unwilling to move at all.

"There has to be something special about this strange flower that’s captured the attention of these monsters, but... I have no idea what this flower does..." Qin Jiagui muttered to himself. His hands were tightly clenched, only to realize that they were slick with cold sweat.

"Boom—"

Suddenly, a thunderous sound reverberated from the strange flower at the center, startling Su Yu and the others. They then witnessed the strange flower contracting fiercely before swelling back up, releasing a strong mist from its top. In the mist were minuscule, transparent "flowers" that looked like tiny seeds, floating in the air like small jellyfish in water.

The scene was indescribably bizarre. However, the surrounding monsters promptly pounced upon the spectacle, and Su Yu and the others caught a whiff of a smell akin to that of rotting corpses.

The moment Su Yu inhaled it, he felt dizzy and illusions filled his sight.

"Don’t inhale it!" Su Yu shouted quietly. Luckily, his special power sensed the danger and immediately activated, dispelling the illusions quickly. Then, Su Yu saw several transparent miniature "flowers", resembling mini jellyfishes, wafting around in the mist, heading towards his group.

No longer able to conceal themselves, Su Yu instinctively felt that these tiny, jellyfish-like flowers were incredibly dangerous. As he instructed everyone to lay flat on the ground, he simultaneously activated "Scattering Storm", spewing a large amount of vapor from his black scales, pummeling the ground, and forming a tornado that blew upwards. He wanted to use this tornado to blow away the tiny jellyfish that were drifting towards them.

Meanwhile, chaos descended on the patch of grass in front. The Golden Goblin and Golden Goblin King were growling hoarsely, seemingly trying to restrain their minions, but many monsters still rushed forward, eagerly extending their arms towards the floating mini jellyfish, their eyes filled with greed as if they had found the world’s most precious treasure.

Each of these floating, transparent "mini jellyfishes" landed on the monsters and rooted themselves, their base sprouting long, thin, transparent tentacles that burrowed into the monsters’ bodies. Gradually, these transparent "mini jellyfishes" moved into the monsters’ bodies along these long, thin tentacles.

As they saw more and more "mini jellyfishes" infiltrating their bodies, these monsters wore ecstatic and blissful expressions, even while their bodies wobbled and inevitably collapsed to the ground, gradually losing signs of life.

Those monsters that had fewer "mini jellyfishes" rooted on them turned to flee, with monsters collapsing and dying occasionally. The distance each managed to cover varied, depending on the number of "mini jellyfishes" that had attached onto them.

Those with more "jellyfishes" stuck onto their bodies died faster, whereas those with fewer could run greater distances before gradually dying.

All the dying monsters had peculiar smiles on their faces, as though their lives had reached ultimate fulfillment, and they had no regrets in this lifetime.

Having witnessed this spectacle, everyone finally understood how corpses with fulfilled smiles on their faces could be scattered all around.

Hiding in the wild grass, Zhang Zhongmou muttered in alarm, "This is fucking weird, have these monsters... gone mad?"

"No, perhaps these ’jellyfish’-like seeds of the strange flower... hold an irresistible attraction for them... like drugs. Didn’t you notice the Golden Goblin? It’s growling as if it’s trying to stop these monsters from pouncing..." Qin Jiagui replied in a low voice, watching the "mini jellyfish"-like seeds of the strange flower flying overhead. Everyone was scared stiff, fearing that the "mini jellyfishes" might land on them.

Meanwhile, in front of them among the weeds, the Golden Goblin, Golden Goblin King, and other formidable monsters were more disciplined. While they roared in defiance and deftly evaded the flying "mini jellyfishes", they didn’t dare let them touch their bodies. Instead, they continued to stare unwaveringly at the strange, dangerous flower at the center and wouldn’t leave, not even for a second.
