A farm that breeds gods and demons -
Chapter 592 - 456
Chapter 592: 456
When the little girl woke up, she could not remember anything, such as how she arrived at the village or even her own name. The villagers believed that she might have encountered a damaging experience that caused her amnesia. Given that it was impossible to leave the Demonic Forest, they decided to adopt her.
Despite her memory loss, the little girl was adorable. The villagers loved her, and the relationships were harmonious, almost like a real family. However, this happiness was short-lived. A few days prior, a monster had invaded their village. The villagers united to combat it, but failed, and the monster had fled. It suddenly turned its rage towards the children, who had been watching from a distance. That was when the girl was standing.
At that deadly moment, the dormant power within the little girl had awoken.
This power naturally activated at sensing the threat to the girl, but she had no control over it. The monster was certainly killed, but tragically, the children standing near her were also fatally involved.
That scene was like a nightmare that the villagers could never erase from their memories.
Upon hearing this, Su Yu’s heart trembled slightly. He understood why the villagers harbored such hatred towards the little girl, Feng’er, and why she was willing to withstand their violence and torture without fighting back.
Calculating the time since the Battle of the Black and White City, more than a month had indeed passed. Evidently, the enormous hand from the sky had cast her into the Demonic Forest, where the villagers found her. They were completely oblivious to the monstrous power within her, which led to the ensuing tragedy.
When Feng’er woke up, she had amnesia, her mind a blank slate. The villagers were all she had, like a family. But now, her supposed family had turned against her. Any pain inflicted upon her would be both physical and emotional. It was due to this traumatic ordeal that she never thought about fighting back, unless the villagers threatened her life and triggered her protective instinct.
The horrifying sight of almost a dozen children dead, coupled with the little girl’s display of indomitable power and the monstrous shadow seemed to have pushed the villagers’ fear to its climax. They demonized her, considering her a disaster and a menace. Following a communal decision, they decided to burn her alive that night. They were convinced that the girl was indeed a monster and that sacrificial rites were necessary to safeguard the village. The ensuing flames again triggered the girl’s power, causing another tragedy.
Having heard the story finally, Su Yu understood the whole situation. He sighed heavily and tossed the villager out of his hand. He said, "It wasn’t her intention, she never wanted to hurt any of you..." From his perspective, it was indeed a tragedy. The villagers were also victims. They were cruel to the little girl, but considering if their own child was among the deceased, their resentment and hatred was understandable.
Ignoring the villagers, Su Yu turned and squatted in front of the sobbing girl, blood smeared on her face after being stoned. Initially, Su Yu planned to use her for his own purposes, but now he looked at her and felt a deep sense of pity stir within him.
In contrast to a normal four or five-year old girl, who usually enjoys a blissful and carefree life under the protection of her parents.
The girl in front of him, however, had been born with a grave destiny, facing Anoka’s deadly vengeance against the White Tiger Giant City. After being implanted with the Sealing Eye, she regained her vision, but by then, her life had already been manipulated by hatred. Later on, she lost her memory and was found by the villagers, whom she came to see as family and the most dependable individuals in her life. However, their relations turned hostile. Her innate powers ended up killing a dozen children, and the villagers considered her a demon, even an imminent death sentence. The abrupt changes and the severity of these tortures could overwhelm even an adult, let alone a child.
"Sigh..." Su Yu sighed deeply, reached out to wipe her tears, and gently said, "Would you like come with me? You... don’t belong here in the first place."
The girl lowered her head and didn’t say a word, her eyes were wide and scared like a terrified young deer.
Seeing the girl’s reluctance, Su Yu sighed to himself. Originally, he had intended to use the girl for his own gains. But the sight of her current state and the preceding events filled him with regret for considering such a plan. He felt ashamed. This girl was innocent, she had suffered enough, and he had actually intended to exploit her.
With another sigh, Su Yu got up and turned to Lei Leian saying, "Let’s go." He had no wish to force the little girl to comply. Given the monstrous powers latent within the girl, there were hardly any who could harm her in the Black Iron World, so Su Yu wasn’t worried about her safety.
The villagers around them retreated, their faces exhibiting a combination of hatred and fear. As long as this village was their ancestral homeland, they could not bring themselves to abandon it. They looked at Su Yu and the little girl as if they were the plague.
Lei Leian looked taken aback and asked, "Su Yu, are you sure about leaving just like that?"
"Yes," Su Yu nodded, he reached out and held her hand saying, "We have done all we can. She may have her own desires. We don’t need to force her."
Seeing Su Yu so resolute, Lei Leian thought for a bit and nodded in agreement. The two of them did not linger and left the valley behind.
As night descended, the duo didn’t journey far but instead set up camp not far from the valley. Su Yu’s daily bout of wrenching pain wracked his body once more, forcing him to tightly embrace Lei Leian.
Lei Leian gently held Su Yu, feeling his body slightly convulsing. She could sense the pain he was enduring.
"Su Yu, just hang in there... We’ll find the ’Tears of Timis’ after a few more days of travel..."
Su Yu didn’t reply, instead quietly holding Lei Leian with his eyes closed. His face was covered in a cold sweat. After a while, he managed to regain his breath, lifted his head, and froze.
Not far off, the little girl Feng’er clung tightly to the clothes he had draped over her. She stood there alone, looking pitiful and scared, stubborn yet... full of hope in her wide eyes.
Hope towards Su Yu.
Lei Leian quickly spotted the little girl Feng’er as well and seemed puzzled. She hadn’t expected the child to suddenly show up. It appeared Ada, who had been perched on Su Yu’s shoulder all along, had anticipated this. Ada seemed unsurprised at the girl’s arrival. She extended a paw to scratch her chin, considering the girl to be a double-edged sword.
Su Yu released Lei Leian and beckoned Feng’er over, but she stood silent and didn’t utter a word.
Su Yu’s eyebrows furrowed in understanding. That village had no place for her anymore, and his presence brought her a glimmer of hope, so she followed. But she was also wary and cautious of him. She’d once been hurt by the village, so now she hesitated to trust, or even accept anyone readily.
Building trust would take time.
Su Yu didn’t push her. He simply produced some rations, threw them over to Feng’er, and didn’t bother her anymore, instead helping Lei Leian set up the tent.
Lei Leian pointed at Feng’er and wanted to ask Su Yu his intentions. With a shake of his head, he signaled her not to meddle. Lei Leian took the hint and retired to their tent to rest. Su Yu took refuge in a convenient, sheltered spot and closed his eyes to rest.
It wasn’t until the duo was resting that the little girl collected the food Su Yu had thrown her way and began eating voraciously. She hadn’t eaten anything for days.
Even as he appeared to rest, Su Yu was watching over the child. Seeing her eat, a faint smile emerged on his face.
The next day, Su Yu, Lei Leian and their distant follower, the little girl, continued their journey deep into the Demonic Forest. Neither of the groups exchanged a single word. To ensure the child could keep up, Su Yu intentionally slowed down their pace.
Although Lei Leian had previously visited the Demonic Mountain Range, once she was truly back, she couldn’t remember the surroundings at all. It all looked the same. Helplessly, she resorted to using an instrument to keep them on track. From the way Lei Leian looked, Su Yu suspected that they were lost.
After five days in the Demonic Forest, Su Yu couldn’t help but say, "Lei Leian, are you really sure you know where the ’Tears of Timis’ are?"
Lei Leian blushed slightly, bit her lip, then said, "I will find it. I’ve said it before. I was once immersed in the ’Tears of Timis’, and once we get close... I’ll definitely be able to sense it."
Su Yu simply nodded. There was nothing else they could do but to trust Lei Leian. Even Ada couldn’t navigate her way in the forest. They had already ventured deep into it and had no choice but to continue searching.
The little girl, Feng’er, had been trailing them all along. Su Yu would toss her some food each day. In Lei Leian’s Storage Bracelet, there was a variety of delicious food, clearly indicating that Lei Leian had prepared thoroughly for surviving in the wild.
Over the next few days, Su Yu and Feng’er didn’t exchange any words, but she gradually drew closer. At first, she would follow them from a distance, but now, she was staying within twenty meters of them. (Story to be continued. To find out what happens next, please visit www.qidian.com.
